Everything about this book is wonderful! My kids absolutely loved the theme of this book and the illustrations were gorgeous! We have an entire house full of "goth moths" so this has really become a favorite bedtime read for us.

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. A cute story for elementary kids about a shy moth who wants to be a drummer. Nice rhyming throughout and funny illustrations.

What a cute book about this Gothic M o t h He got he was a rocker and And he had an idle he wanted to meet A woman who had her own Band. This was cute because he actually went there one day and he thought he was playing with the drums and he was so happy because he got his dream. I think this book shows people can be different and have different ideas and still get what they want in life. The book had a cute little ending as Well. The drawings and the illustrations explaining the drawings were amazing. I like how the drawings of the moth were pretty impressive. And when they were dressed up in their GOTH. Clothing that was so amazing. They looked so real and special when they were in the band

I absolutley love the artwork! Overall I enjoyed the story. I did feel that some parts either didn't make sense or seemed unrealistic. However, I'm an adult reading a children's book (and I really think kids will enjoy) and the story is about a drumming moth. Needless to say that my "down sides" are barely worth mentioning. I would purchase this book as a gift! Thanks to Netgalley, the author and publisher for the ARC!

I loved this book! It is great to see and read a book and to introduce something different to children. This book teaches children that different is good and everybody is somebody. My children loved this book as well. 5 Stars.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the free copy of Goth Moth by Kai Luftner in exchange for my honest review.

Goth Moth is about a moth, Walter, who wants to be a drummer.
This was such a cute picture book that gave a lot of love to music and metal/rock bands. It has a nice message about following your passions and finding your people.
The rhyming lines and the art in the book are also excellent. It’s simple but well done.

A simple by effective story with fun Easter eggs for the grown ups! I read this with my 7yo tonight and he made connections with stepping out of his comfort to try a new sport- so the book sparked conversation! Loved the art.

This is a cute little story about stepping out of one's comfort zone in order to experience one's passion. The Goth Moth is always drumming even though he does not have his own drumming kit. Then, one day, he gets to meet his favorite artist and has a chance to use a real drum kit. I enjoyed the lyrical quality to the prose that made it fun to read aloud. The artwork, with nods to real life bands was fun to explore. It was colorful and engaging without missing the tone of being a "goth moth". Definitely a fun one to potentially put into a storytime rotation.

First, I love the play on words on all the album covers, that was awesome! Second, the palate of colors used in the illustrations are perfect to put you in the metal/goth mood.

I love that Goth Moth got to live out their dream and I think that parents will have a great time reading this book with their children.

Fun rhymes flow seamlessly. Captures the impact of music in all its conflicts and resolutions. Emphasises the importance of pursuing dreams and not to be afraid of challenges. Satisfying pacing. Surface-level character development. Goth Moth is a flat character whose main trait is his love for rock. Lacks a definite opposition resulting in low stakes. Celebrates finding confidence in yourself. Recommended for those looking for a good time that isn't drawn out. Overall, an average read.

This is the cutest, most metal picture book I have ever seen and I am in LOVE. Walter is a shy moth but deep down he has a passion for rhythm and rock. He loves drumming to his own beat. He decides to leave the darkness of his home and attends a rock concert featuring his favourite star - Jitterbug. What he didn't expect was to steal the limelight and become the star of the show!

This clever rhyming story reminds children to never be afraid of who they are, to be brave and step into the limelight!

This is such an original and fun story and the illustrations were fantastically gothic and entertaining! Not scary but totally hit the briefing of 'Goth Moth'.

(A huge thank you to NetGalley and the author for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review! ♥)

I suppose Goth Moth might not be for every kid out there, but the rockin' little ones who are drawn to it are sure in for a treat. Walter the nighttime Goth Moth wants to drum his heart out, and dreams of playing music like his idol Jitterbug. His dreams come true in a whirlwind of excitement, and his passion leads the way. Loved this story! (And laughed out loud at 'Iron Mantis')

A cute rhyming story about a Goth Moth who dreams of playing the drums. The illustrations are adorably sppoky.

Adorable story of a Goth Moth that is a big fan of the band. If the band is around, will Goth Moth get to go?

Thank you to NetGalley and NorthSouth Books for the eARC.

A very cute, whimsical, quirky tale with a melodious text about a goth moth. It's fun and visually pleasing, with vibrant illustrations. I thought the part of being rejected by other critters could've been developed a bit more, but overall, it's a nice book with a unique theme.

⭐4/5

Goth Moth is a very cute story about Walter the (goth) moth, who plays drums only on his head because he has no drum kit. It’s his dream to be a rockstar like Jitterbug… but he needs support, a chance to believe in himself, and an opportune moment to shine!

The rhyming prose was very charming and definitely led to some interesting word combinations to keep the pattern. Text flowed mostly easily, although there were some moments where the rhythm of syllables felt off. Overall though, kudos to the translator Tim Mohr for still keeping the charm and rhymes in English.

A picture book wouldn’t be complete without, well, pictures. The art balances a way to be just grungy enough for a rock band image, but still cutesy for a children audience! If you’re a rock/metal fan, you’ll find the bug puns of album covers (ex. “Iron Mantis”) as a fun nod to the actual bands.

There’s a moment where a newspaper article of Jitterbug is shown, with seemingly unreadable mirrored text. As Lüftner is a German author, I presume the German version of Lorem Ipsum was used as a placeholder text. I was curious about what it said… and a medical description of polychondritis is definitely a filler text. It was an amusing discovery for myself, but kids won’t notice it at all.

Overall, Goth Moth is a fun read to introduce children to music (especially if you are familiar with the bands referenced), alongside a message of self-positivity and a journey in confidence. I often found myself smiling at how adorable the whole story was, and this is definitely a book I would have loved as a kid. While this is the second book in the Band of Bugs series, it can easily be read as a standalone.

Thank you NorthSouth Books and NetGalley!
