Bravo! What a wonderful book! Goth Moth (a.k.a. Walter) is a moth that wants to be a rock drummer. He ventures out to see his favorite rockstar (Jitterbug_ perform and falls in love with the experience of live rock music. There is a prequel to this book (Jitterbug) but it is not necessary to buy both books. The illustrations are fabulous and truly capture the goth motif. There are even little nuggets for the adult readers (i.e. band names changed on album covers... Moth Crue, Iron Mantis, Metallicicada) Clever as all! The rhyme flows easily and I can see small children requesting this book repeatedly.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an electronic copy to read in exchange for an honest review.
There is so much to love about this book! The detailed illustrations, the wonderful vocabulary, and the rhyming prose. It's delightful and fun story to follow up Jitterbug. I like how it shows that stepping outside of your comfort zone can lead to something great.

I was first drawn to this book because of the fun cover! My four year old enjoyed the book. He loved seeing a moth play the drums. The illustrations are fun and engaging and match perfectly with the overall them of goth. My only issue was the rhyming text. It was difficult to read at times and didn’t flow well. Overall a cute story for young readers with a fun message.

Acherontia atropos are the most metal moths and Walter is certainly no exception. A shy nocturnal moth that dreams of being a drummer. To make that dream reality he’ll have to go out in the daytime and take his spot on stage. A rockin good time and a fabulous follow up to Jitterbug

I received and ARC of this book through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I love the idea behind this story. It will definitely appeal to a certain demographic. The art is cute-Goth Moth is adorable. I didn't love the rhythm of the story. I think it could have done without the rhyming. Some word choices were definitely stretched just to make it work. Still, I think this is a book that kids will like.

You can't send me a book called "Goth Moth" and not expect to immediately pick it up! Send me all the Goth Moth merch, please. Goth Moth wants to be a drummer, but he doesn't have a drum set! An opportunity to live out his dreams comes true, with one of his favorite bands! The storytelling that Luftner has created is fun, spirited, and includes lots of sounds that will keep kids engaged and excited for this introverted bug. My only note is the rhyming is a bit imperfect and the rhythm was sometimes hard to get right as I was reading it aloud. I hope that Goth Moth has more adventures in the future! Thanks to NetGalley for an early review copy, all opinions are my own.

This book fell short from my expectations, the goth moth wants to play the drums, but doesn't have a drum set. One day he has the opportunity to play on stage with his favorite band, and he rocks it! There were beautiful illustrations, but the story has a narrow scope and might struggle to connect to a wider audience. The rhyming scheme was hard to read at times, but overall cool idea!

Walter was so cute. The depiction of how he did what he enjoyed, even when those around him simply didn't. Not because he was being loud or disorderly, but simply because he existed it doing what he loved. The way Walter went ahead, even scared, to do something that went against his norm JUST to have a beautiful and fun experience and he made some new friends.
First, I loved how a lot of the insects in this book have long hair. The illustrations were pretty cool.
We volunteered to read a copy of this ARC through NetGalley.

Delightful!
In a dark world of quiet, creepy crawlers, be a goth moth. Pound your drum and find your sound! I loved the joy music brings Goth Moth and the lengths they'd go to to find it.

This book was a short sweet story about a moth who dreams of playing the drums. I loved all the rhyming words as I read. Kiddos will surely enjoy this read. As a teacher, I love the rhymes and the addition of new words. This would be perfect for cicle time reading or to read it in music class to young readers.

This is a cute book about being oneself and loving whatever you enjoy. The story was sweet, the illustrations were beautiful, and it was nice to see someone lean into what makes them happy. It was a very different world to enter but it all fit.

Goth Moth is a strange little book, which if given to the right child, will shine with the brilliance of its message. Our moth friend has dreams. Dreams that he is content to keep locked inside and hidden until the right moment comes to break free and shine. The illustrations are scratchy and vivid. They draw you in demanding you explore the page. What child hasn't hidden a desire for fear of being different? This is the book that will help children explore their passions.

This is a cute story, but the concept of Goth will be lost on the target audience, and good luck to parents who have to explain it. The pictures are nice but not the most engaging. I do like the unique protagonist - too many books have bears.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.

Thank you NorthSouth Books and NetGalley for a digital advanced copy of "Goth Moth" byt Kai Luftner. I loved the rhyming in this book!I would definitely use this book in my classroom to help students recognize rhyming. I loved the darker illustrations and then the pops of color during certain parts. I think kids would be really intrigued by the story and be able to relate to playing air drums or pretending to be in a band. Great book for kids who like bugs or like music and a fun addition to a home or classroom library!

Having enjoyed the first book, Jitterbug, I was excited at the opportunity to read the Goth Moth. However, I didn’t find Goth Moth to have the same dynamics. The rhyming isn’t as fun and I think that the character illustration is a bit creepy.
Not a bad picture book, but I think that some children may get a little scared by the main character. Two stars.
I was invited to read a DRC from NorthSouth Books through NetGalley. The review herein is completely my own and contains my honest thoughts and opinions.

I love this picture book! The illustrations are absolutely beautiful and carry such a vibe. My kids loved the story line and that goth moth got to play at the rock show. They love getting to see the different bugs as imagined in this story. I can't wait to add a hard copy to our home library!

This picture book is a total rockstar for any kiddo who feels a little shy! Walter the moth may love drumming like a true "Goth Moth," but he hides in the shadows, afraid to show off his skills. With beautiful illustrations and a rocking rhythm, the story shows how Walter finds his courage and steps onto the stage to play the drums for his favorite band!
This book will have you and your little air guitarist wigging out!
Thank you to NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A fun a lively story with rhyming throughout. Just a fun lovely read for primary students! Children will love the story and connect with the lovable Goth Moth character!

A short picture book that a moth wants to play drums and goes to a concert and gets to play there. I understand that it's suppose to show how "goth" can have fun and show them in a story but the story didn't feel complete, Like why did the Rockstar just so happen to have an empty drummer slot and not ask Goth Moth to play with them if they had a slot open? idk it felt weird like it was just thrown in. could've done something more common and make GM meet a friend and then become pen pals or friends that hang out bc that's what the moth actually needs is friends who share his same interest.

Walter the Goth Moth is my hero. I love the way that kids books are becoming a little more weird, and catered towards what the parents like, but staying fun for kids.
