So great to recognize in the creative illustrations the symbols and significance of rock, and metal. It's not often I see a character like this, representing who most are shy, introverts but with a passion for music, to belong to a community that understands their language. Thank you for this diversity. Mostly it's a lesson about stepping out of one's comfort zone, giving it a chance, sharing with others passions, and doing what one loves. Super cute, I love them playing together.
Thank you, publisher and Netgalley for this e-arc.

This was a really fun picture book about a drummer moth who loves rock music - oh the name of the bands in this little book were hilarious! But our moth is shy and he is Goth Moth only in his head, until one night when he actually drums with a star (which I heard has her own book and now I want to read it).

The illustrations are gorgeous and different - and so is the theme of this book, which makes it exciting for me. The text is in rhymes and it works really well! It's also rhythmic and a lot of fun.

This was a cute story. Could be fun for families who are into rock music. Seems like the type of book that the parents mostly get a kick out of.

Thanks NetGalley,

This was such a cute little book. I will definitely be purchasing this for my library patrons and hopefully will create a fun activity to go with it, so I can use if for story time. I loved the illustrations and fingers crossed this becomes a series whether it is different bugs or just about Walter, absolutely adorable.

Walter is a shy moth. He prefers to hide out in his quiet attic. But a fiery passion slumbers in him . . . In his heart he is a drummer, a true “Goth Moth.” There’s just one problem: Walter has no drums, let alone a band. The moth adores the music by Jitterbug (also known as Lady B. Marie)—his idol. At one of her concerts, the unimaginable happens: the Goth Moth now finds himself on stage, in the limelight.

Kai Lüftner’s rollicking rhymes tell the story of someone who flies under the radar with daring rhythm. Wiebke Rauers prepares the stage for our shy hero in such a thrilling way that you too will become a Goth Moth fan.

Rock on with Walter the Goth Moth and Lady B. Marie the Jitterbug in these musical refrains about being yourself!

I really like the title "Goth Moth". Love how it rhymes. Cleverly done. I think the author is a rocker himself and he knows the nuance of being one that he can transmit in this book. The story is good and kids can relate. I wish the author dive more on Goth Moth's being a fan boy of Jitterbug and cut the story a bit short. In any rate it's a good read and my daughter loves it

This was such a cute and fun book! I enjoyed the rhyming scheme and the illustrations were adorable. Walter aka Goth Moth is a very amusing main character to follow on his journey to perform with Jitterbug.

Cute little entertaining story that truly feels like one-of-a-kind. I would love to see a follow-up book for this cute little goth moth bundle of joy.
Illustrations were lovely and "moody". The poems were lovely crafted as well.

Thank you NetGalley for providing me with this arc in exchange for my honest review.

I could have never guessed how incredibly funny (and cool ;)) bugs would look with long hair and dark clothing. I’m still giggling imagining them.

But Walter is kinda cute. He’s a moth so he rocks at night in silence to not annoy the other bugs, drumming away in his mind.

Walter is a big fan of superstar Jitterbug. He would love to see her band play!

One day he goes out at day. It’s scary but he has a goal.

He really enjoys the concert and even gets to play!

I loved the happy ending and the quality of the illustrations was incredible!

Thanks to NetGalley for my ARC

Goth Moth was wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed the art style. It was so unique and modern, but still cute. The story itself was uplifting and sent a positive message. I think this would be perfect for music loving kids like my son or for kids that just like bugs.

Walter is a drummer in his heart and in his mind he is Goth Moth. He finally gets a moment to shine at a gig with his favorite star Jitterbug. The illustrations are wonderful. This can be read as a stand along but is a sequel to Jitterbug (April 2023) which I have read. The rhyming works but as I mentioned in my review of the Jitterbug some of the words may need explaining to younger readers. The book is translated from German which may influence the word choice. (3.5 Stars)

I don’t think I can express how ADORABLE this moth was. Walter is precious to begin with but the fact that he is a goth moth really sends me. I love it.

I think the artwork was my favorite part. I don’t know what this art style is but I love it and it has to be one of my favorites when it comes to children’s lit. The bugs were super cute and even though the colors were lots of brown with minimal color until jitterbug became involved, I still loved the illustrations and thought it worked with the story. There were also nods to different bands from “our world” in the illustration that was cute to see.

The story rhymes throughout and is set up how poetry normally is. While there is rhyming in the entire book sometimes it just felt forced. I will say, this is a translated text (german) so that is most likely why; however, it still threw me a bit when I came to certain parts.

Some of the words also threw me as they weren’t words I thought would show up in the children’s book. For example, transfixed. Just some words that may be difficult for kids as they’re bigger and not words they hear too often.

Walter starts out kind of feeling like a bother as he’s hiding his drumming (he only as sticks and no set) and others near him are annoyed. When he finds Jitterbug he acts as a drummer in her band. At the end he’s more confident and his friends are no longer annoyed with him. However….he’s still playing invisible drums? This part just kind of confused me. I was also confused when his friends were no longer annoyed because he’s doing the same thing as before. It felt a little bit disconnected in the last 2 pages for me.

Overall, VERY cute. I love little goth characters as we don’t get to see them too often. The illustrations were great and I think kids that like music, books with bug characters, or are channeling their goth self would like this one.

Also: I saw the author has a book for jitterbug that looks cute!

Goth Moth is such a charming little story. The illustrations are absolutely stunning. The theme is a shy little moth who loves to play air drums. He doesn’t have a set of his own. His world is enshrouded in darkness, but of course, he is a moth. His favorite artist is a jitterbug who he would love to meet, but she comes out during day. Gathering strength and courage Goth Moth ventures out into the daylight and his dreams come true. He is invited to play in jitterbugs band.
This story is about finding the courage to follow your dreams and do what makes you happy. There is a lot to talk about with this little story that will encourage any kid to not let obstacles get in the way.

I want to thank #netgalley and publishers for allowing me to read this wonderful children’s book. I would definitely use it in my classroom with my younger students

Goth Moth plays air drums and would love to work on a real set just this once - maybe today is his time to shine?

For once was not satisfied with the plot. Why did the band not have their own drummer but the ready kit standing right there?
Apart from that, great fun. Spooky picture AND hardrock and metal? Great combo.

Will look out for more by this artists. Who appears to be German so my library may be able to help out.
The arc was provided by the publisher.

Thank you, NetGalley, for providing me with the opportunity to review this second book.

"Goth Moth" captured my heart! The illustrations are incredibly adorable, and the poetic narrative adds a special charm. The messages conveyed, such as facing fears and embracing individuality despite societal norms, are invaluable in todays day and age.
Empowering our children to pursue their passions, even in the face of misunderstanding, is a crucial lesson that resonates deeply.

Goth Moth is an adorable story about a moth named Walter who wants to be a drummer. Walter usually just drums inside his head, but then one day, he bravely adventures out to see his favorite rockstar and makes his drumming dreams come true. It’s unique and fun. I love the rhyming text! The illustrations are absolutely adorable. This is such a fun children’s book and would be the perfect addition to any music loving kid’s bedtime story collection.

Cute, unusual in the best way. Absolutely beautiful. I would die for him. One for the Millennial parents.

I absolutely adore this story and think it would make the perfect. gift for a little rockers bedtime story. It would also make a cute story for a librarian or teacher to use as an anchor text for a variety of activities from rhyming to music. I definitely think there is a little Goth Moth in us all.
