The message of hope is what makes this book important for young children. Natural disasters are scary and by focusing on a very special possession, Ohi shows how amid the turmoil and chaos caused by a Japanese tsunami, the small soccer ball survived as did its boy.

This is a particularly important book to help children begin to talk about and develop empathy for people who experience natural disasters. It also will be helpful for those who have experienced these disasters find ways to cope.
