Wild Scottish Rose is book 4 in The Enchanted Highlands series. The story follows Shona, as she learns she is a garden witch and the next one to be added into the secretive Order of Caledonia.
As she starts to embrace her magic she rents out a cottage on her property to Owen, an American filmmaker curious about Loren Brae’s secrets and mysteries more specifically Kelpies.

I loved everything about this book. The fact it was set in Scotland was a highlight for me.
Shona and Owen were wonderful characters and I loved seeing their blossoming relationship which felt natural and had me rooting for these two.

They were supported by an interesting cast of secondary characters, which included kelpies, unicorn, hedgehog army and a ghost coo. I absolutely adored Shona familiar Gnorman the gnome and Eugene the hedgehog was my favorite

The story was highly entertaining, making me laugh and it also had me swooning, and I also loved the magic and whimsy attached to the tale. It was a charming, low angst read with wonderful banter and I would highly recommend it.

🎧 I listened to an audiobook version of this story, narrated by Amy Landon and Will Watt. They were both fantastic and brought the story to life. Their voices were clear and understandable and I loved the Scottish accent used. Their performance was an entertaining one and it was a pleasure listening to them narrate this novel.

In this part of the enchanted highlands series we meet Shona a whimsical gardener, and Owen a filmmaker coming to town to investigate an accident a friend of his had on the local loch.
We get to revisit some of our favorite characters from the previous books (my personal favorite is Clyde the ghostly highland coo) and we follow the order of Caledonia becoming one member closer to saving the village.

Shona is a very likable and relatable main character. I love that she listens to true-crime podcasts and does not take herself too seriously. She shows that you do not need to be book smart to lead a happy and successful life (I kind of envy her lifestyle).

Owen is a bit too self-involved for my taste, not fully appreciating what consequences his filmmaking can have to the locals and Shona, but he redeems himself by the end of the book. His mother’s narcissistic tendencies and his own ways to cope with this were a very neat and realistic way to explain his personal character flaws.

The love story between the two was very nice to read about. Owen makes some swoon worth book boyfriend moves, however he came on so strong and suddenly that I was a bit worried he could be insincere at the beginning. I certainly wouldn’t have believed that he was genuinely interested, had I been Shona. While I totally bought their attraction, the relationship also moved quite fast, without gaining depth, especially taking into account that Owen is not local and does have to travel a lot to make a living.

As with the other books in the series, this book is full of cozy small town vibes and will make you fall in love with Scotland, the usual banter is of course included. In addition, Shona’s little cottage, the markets, talk of produce and sustainable gardening will bring in some additional coziness. Shona’s sidekick is a gnome called Gnorman (the g is silent). He trains a little army of hedgehogs, including little Eugene. Eugene does not perform up to Gnormans standards, so he is transferred to house services. If this does not convince you to pick up this (audio)book, I don’t know what will.

If you must, you can also read this book by itself without reading the other books in this series. The love story in itself is a standalone, but the story around Loren Brae and its magical whims is continuous. You might also be missing some context about the order of Caledonia if you haven’t at least read the first part of the series before reading this one.

By the fourth book in the series we already have a bit of a pattern here (one American one Scottish love interest, one that knows about the town secrets, one that doesn’t; insta love; quirky female; hunky male) and I am hoping that the author will break out of it for some future books. I mean, otherwise, half the town population will be Americans by the time the series is done. I also found some of the conversations, like Shona’s introduction to the Knighthood, to be a bit blunt and repetitive. By the fourth time around, this conversation gets a bit boring and I wish there was a way to skip it or to introduce the new members differently.

The narrators, especially Amy Landon, with her voice acting for the different characters, did an excellent job with this audiobook. The banter and the hilarity of the gnomes came across so well!

If you are looking for a small town love story, with cozy cottage, gardening vibes, a bit of banter and some magic, this is the (audio)book for you!

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Select for gifting me this ALC of the audiobook to review.

I absolutely loved this book! The story was very well written and I fell in love with the main characters. And the narrators added so much to the story!

Oh. My. Goodness. I loved Wild Scottish Rose! While I adored Shona and Owen, I especially loved Gnorman and Eugene.

I truly enjoyed the magical realism in this book - especially the hedgehog army and learning along with Shona about her magic. Not to mention small town Scotland.

Wild Scottish Rose is #4 in the Enchanted Highlands series, although I read this as a stand alone without a problem.

I have to add - the narrators, Amy Landon and Will Watt, were amazing. And ohhhh…the Scottish brogue!

Thank you to Dreamscape Media for the #gifted audiobook!

I love Shona’s secret powers and also secretly wish I had special floral and growing abilities. Owen proves himself as completely trustworthy though and she still doesn’t trust him. He’s so great and it takes her almost losing him to realize that.

I enjoyed this one but am not sure that I would buy it now that I've read it. But I do have some ppl to recommend it to!

Y’all, this Enchanted Highland series has my heart! Tricia O’Malley whisks me away to Scotland to fulfill my dreams every time I open one of her books.

Magick, Romance, Gnomes, Clyde the Ghost Coo, Hedgehogs, I mean, what more could you want? But Shona and Owen‘s story was one for the record books. I laughed out loud at these two multiple times. I absolutely love their story. It is so fun to see the characters from the previous books make appearances in this one.

I love this book and all the feels you get while reading it.

The narrators were incredible, somehow they make the book even better. They magically bring it to life and you feel as if you are apart of the story with them. I will listen to anything these two narrate.

This was such an incredible palette cleanser!

Enough mystery and intrigue to keep things interesting, with some fun magical characters. I read this book without having read the first two… so disappointing because I really enjoyed it and I love reading series in order.. nothing to do but go back and read 1 and 2.. also getting in on the preorder for book 4!

This book was a feel good easy read in a normal world where there is just a little bit of magic.

I absolutely love this series. It’s cozy and funny. This one was a little cheesy with all the gnome puns but they were so fun!

I liked the storyline for Shona. The gnomes and hedgies were such a wonderful addition. The surprise Clyde appearance always makes me happy! These stories are so easy to breeze through, great easy reads but one of my comfort series!

The audio was pretty good. I found the female narrator would drop her accent from time to time but it wasn’t too distracting for me. This was the first audio where the female was the Scottish one so it was a bit different narration wise

This is part of a series, but I'm not sure how important it is to read the other books first. I didn't, and I was able to keep up pretty easily with this latest member of the "Order of Caldonia" and her love interest. I thought the story was engaging and fun. The dialogue was funny, if a bit cheesy at times. The romance was just as steamy as promised.

The audiobook narration was just OK. It was kind of clunky and stilted at times as the narrators switched between the Scottish and American accents, and sometimes when the male narrator was doing female voices he sounded like Mrs. Doubtfire. But overall I really enjoyed this book and would be interested in checking out the rest of the series if I get a chance.

I would rate this book 3.5. I listened to the audio version of this book and I found the male audio narrator slightly annoying, so that did impact my rating. The premise of this book is very cute. I really enjoyed the magical realism the most. The town of Loren Brae sounds like the most idyllic Scottish town of all time and I desperately want to visit. This is the first one of The Enchanted Highlands series I have read, and it did leave me wanting to read the precursors. I really enjoy the concept of stand alone stories that are all interrelated.

Highlights:
Magical Realism
Garden Witch
"Animal" Companions
Hollywood x Small Town

Favorite Quote: "I just love the allure of a rose opening to bloom. The softness of their petals hides the strength of their stems. Their thorns remind you to treat them with care, that the beauty they choose to give you comes at a price and must be protected."

Thank you to NetGalley, Dreamscape Select, and Tricia O'Malley for providing me a copy of this audiobook. My opinions are my own.

I was feeling good about this book in the beginning but things did start falling apart the further we went on. What better way to organize my thoughts than a pros cons list?

Pro:
-The banter between the main couple was cute (if a bit cringey at times)
-cute hedgehog
-narration is great I love a good Scottish accent

Con:
-really didn’t like Owen for most of the book. He was arrogant and really pushy
-insta love
-magic system not explored as much as I would have liked
-The gnomes freaked me out a bit ngl
-the conflict at the end was…odd: First of all Owen just blatantly disregarded Shona’s concerns but then got mad at her for doing exactly what he did ??? And I know it is a common thing in books for there to be this magic system that has to be kept a secret but then someone gets butthurt about not being let in on it. I have understandably never been in that situation but why get mad at someone for keeping a secret like that??? It always irks me in books when a character gets mad that the other didn’t tell them about their super secret magic, ITS A SECRET

Anyway Owen sort of redeems himself at the end but I had spent so much time disliking him it did little to fix his image in my head. 2.5 stars.

Unfortunately, This was a DNF for me. I could not move past the narrators fake accent and voice. The series sounds great however I also did not know this was book 4 in a series. I will not star rate this as it was a DNF but given the form doesnt allow me to submit with a star i have added 1

I think this would of been better read as a book which I will do from the start of the series.

A garden witch, a talking gnome named Gnorman, and a hedgehog! This book was a great cozy fantasy listen, but it dragged on a little longer than I would have liked. The female audiobook narrator had a Scottish accent that was fantastic!

Thank you NetGalley for an advanced listening copy in exchange for my honest review.

From the first time I heard the dulcet tones of the narrator, I knew I was going to have a good time listening to this book. When I listened more and more I found it hard to stop. I was excited to find out that that this was the fourth book in this series, which meant I could go back to the start and read all about when the magic happened!

What book gives you more? Romance, a sassy strong protagonist, magical flora, mystical creatures, a grumpy gnome and an army of hedgehogs! This has got it all and more. I found that I was laughing at the antics, especially the sass from Gnorman, in awe of the sightings of unicorns and 'Harry Coo's', Listening the the majestic settings of Scotland and smiling at the blossoming romance.

The writing flowed well and I really loved the community feel of Loren Brae. The market scene being one of my fave's along with any scene with Gnorman (the G is silent!!) or Eugene.

Unfortunately, one of the characters that I didn't like was the male lead. I found Owen cocky, arrogant and rude. To be that rude to a doctor at the start and then almost every chapter calling him 'charming'? No. He doesn't do it for me at all. I would have preferred Shona to be infatuated with someone more kind and humble, even though I do realise that his character flaws are a major part of the story line.

Overall, I was a fan and I do look forward to going back to read the first 3 books of the series. Gorgeous cover art and great narrators.

Thanks to Netgalley, the author and publishers for an advanced copy for me to give my honest review.

What a sweet story! I haven’t read the others in this series, but I was able to jump right in to Shona’s story without any problems. This story is fast-paced and precious, full of magic and spice. Recommended for anyone who loves Scotland or Scottish lore, hedgehogs, and romance. Male narrator wasn’t my favorite, but I got used to him quickly!

I loved the weaving of Scottish myth and legend into this story. That was most definitely my favorite part. Unfortunately, I had a hard time connecting with the characters. The pacing felt very off, at times very very slow and at others very fast. I think I might have enjoyed it more if I had started with the first in the series. However, a fun read for those interested in the myths and legends of bonnie Scotland.

This was pretty adorable. But I'm a sucker for Scotland, so a little biased. I enjoyed the narrator, especially the male narrator when he did the FMC voice and accent. This had everything you want in a fun fantastical romance, including GNOMES. Seriously the gnomes were so cute, especially the addition of Gnora. I didnt realize it was part of a series prior to reading and am definitely going to check out the other books asap.
