I accidentally didn't realize this was part of a series when I requested it, so I haven't read the other books. I don't think it's necessary to read the other books to understand and enjoy this one, but I do think it may have changed my reading experience a bit. I do intend to go back and read Pride and Premeditation and its sequels, though, since I did enjoy this book.
Set in a slightly modernized regency England, Lizzie and her friend Darcy are hired to solve the mystery of a warehouse fire by the brother of a man who died in the fire. This was a solid, enjoyable book with an interesting mystery that evolved and took some turns and sometimes surprised me. From the perspective of a Jane Austen book adaptation, this book wasn't really an adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, but moreso inspired by Jane Austen's books with certain characters and elements included which feel fun. Characters do mostly feel in keeping with the spirit of Jane Austen's books, and Lizzie and Darcy are cute. I expect that Pride and Premeditation might be more of a straight adaptation, but I don't know for sure, since I need to go back and read it.

Full confession: I reread pride and premeditation before reading this book. I generally like to reread books before reading a spin off or watching the show, so don’t shoot cause I’m literally just being a girl. Now, with Pride and Premeditation Price uses Jane Austen‘s characters and essentially not much except what is already given to her (besides the amazing mystery twist), so this book was bound to be a lot tougher to write, but she did very well! Price blends her own characters with Jane Austins very fluidly. I was also of course extremely happy to find a Pride and Prejudice remake that didn’t make me want to stop living. The reason I wasn’t able to give this full marks was because of an odd twist Price tried to add to Darcy‘s character which almost threw off the originally magical relationship between Lizzie and Darcy and her attempt to soften Darcy‘s character did not go unnoticed nor was it appreciated. Otherwise, I was splendidly surprised by how much I enjoyed this book and how absolutely thrilled I am to see more of Lizzie and Darcy. Thank you so much to NetGalley and HarperCollins for lending me this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Set in regency England this story follows Lizzie Bennet and her friend Mr. Darcy. When a wool-shop is set on fire Lizzie is asked to begin an investigation. As the investigation begins she ropes Darcy in as a consult. A smuggling ring is uncovered as the murders and arson are being investigated. A truely delightful cozy mystery read.
I truely admired Lizzie's character and how she refused to follow society's beliefs of what a "proper" woman would be. She became Londons first female Solicitor through hard work and sheer determination. She despised gossip and her family pushing her to get engaged, all the while fighting her growing feelings for Mr. Darcy.
Overall, there was a very cute little romance throughout the book, and the plot will keep you guessing! Definetly reccomend.

Readers of Pride and Premeditation will love this. It provides more of the happy ending that we crave for Lizzie and Darcy. The characters grow together, and the story gifts us cameos from other Austen characters. We can relate to the modern implications of the characters’ struggles and still enjoy the elegance of the era.
I looked up to Lizzie Bennett as a girl for her wit and love of books, but I wish I would have had this heroine who has drive and thinks for herself. I want my daughter to read Pride & Prejudice and then Pride & Premeditation and then In Want of a Suspect so that Elizabeth Bennett can be a role model and not just a lady whose “only choice is in her refusal.”
The anticipation of the poetic justice in Tirzah Price’s books fills me with satisfaction. The tension is taut in Price’s Lizzie and Darcy Mysteries, and I can’t get enough.
I will positively review on social media soon!!!

This was super interesting! I went into it not reading the first book in the series but it was easy to pick up on what was happening which I appreciated. I love murder mysteries and this was super fun!

It's been almost three years since I read Pride and Premeditation, so I honestly don't remember that story very well. However, I do think you can read and understand In Want of a Suspect without having read Price's other novels. Of course, you'll likely enjoy In Want of a Suspect more if you have previous knowledge. Mind that you will also come across some spoilers for the other books.
I do wish that the murder mystery had a little more to it. Even if I can't solve a mystery while reading the novel, I'm typically able to look back at the end and see all of the foreshadowing I missed. I didn't feel that way as much with In Want of a Suspect. The plot of the book is roughly 50% the relationship between Darcy and Lizzie and 50% solving the murder.
If you're looking for a mystery with a lighter tone, consider In Want of a Suspect.

Overall, the book was entertaining. I hadn’t read the first book where Lizzie and Darcy’s story was first introduced, but there was enough description about the past storyline that it didn’t necessarily detract from the story. It was a bit slow-moving at the beginning, and I struggled through the first quarter of the book, but then it picked up. I love Jane Austen, and this has a number of Austen references - though not exactly referencing the actual storylines - example (spoiler) - the author used the original wording of Darcy’s proposal from P&P and said that he’d said those things in an earlier proposal to another girl. But overall, if you’re not a stickler for Austen, this was fine.
