Maple Bay Nova Scotia is known for a lost pirate treasure - many tourists travel to search along the ocean. In the Treasure Hunters Club, 3 different heroes converge via an interesting set of events. There is Peter Barnett, who learns that he is actually related to a landowner and has a long lost relative. Young Danielly Feltzen, a local who is grieving the death of her grandfather, and Cass Jones, an author who is house sitting for a year in hopes to reinvent her literary career.

The 3 converge in an interesting way and face multiple obstacles as they each try to get to the bottom of their own personal mysteries. It turns out that all of the mysteries are related and all of them lead to the secret of the pirate treasure. Great fun! There was a tone shift mid way but it so surprised me that I loved it and rolled with an enjoyed this treasure hunting story. #groveatlantic #hetreasurehuntersclub #tomryan

“The Treasure Hunters Club” by Tom Ryan is a captivating murder mystery set in the picturesque seaside town of Maple Bay, Nova Scotia. This story combines the adventurous spirit of “The Goonies” with the intricate mystery of “Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone,” delivering a tale filled with pirate lore, family secrets, and a hunt for long-lost treasure. Seventeen-year-old Dandy Feltzen, grieving her grandfather’s death, embarks on a quest to solve the mystery he spent his life chasing.

Cass Jones, a struggling YA author, takes a housesitting job in Maple Bay and stumbles upon the perfect story material—and a charming sailor to assist her. Ryan masterfully weaves these characters’ narratives, creating a cozy yet thrilling mystery. The alternating points of view—Peter’s first-person narrative, and third-person perspectives for Dandy and Cass—add depth and dynamism to the story. The historical backdrop and the exploration of family histories enrich the plot, while the atmospheric setting of Maple Bay, with its quaint charm and hidden dangers, enhances the mystery.

As bodies begin to pile up, the stakes rise for Peter, Dandy, and Cass. They must uncover the truth behind the treasure and navigate the perilous secrets of Maple Bay. The unexpected plot twists keep readers engaged, and the final revelation is both surprising and satisfying. “The Treasure Hunters Club” is a delightful read for fans of cozy mysteries and treasure hunts. Ryan’s skillful storytelling, relatable characters, and the intriguing blend of history and suspense make this book a perfect summer adventure. Whether you’re drawn by the allure of pirate treasure or the unraveling of long-held secrets, this novel promises a thrilling and enjoyable journey. Highly recommended!

Set in a small town, there is an infamous treasure that Peter, Dandy and Cass become tangled up in finding. The magic of this story is in the unforeseen places the plot takes you so I don't want to reveal any more than that! I would recommend going into this novel knowing as little as possible. I loved the way the mysteries unfolded slowly. Tom Ryan reveals the perfect little breadcrumbs at just the right time in order to pull off a truly good twist!

This was such a fun read! A lost pirate treasure, a private historical society, and family secrets made this book a great pageturner! There’s enough twists and turns that kept me guessing, but not so many that lost the overall plot of the story.

This book centres on the town of Maple Bay, a small town in Nova Scotia, where a pirate ship battled a British Navy ship in the late 1700s. Local legend states that the pirate captain buried a chest full of treasure somewhere near the town, and that a group of boys found the treasure in the 1920s, but was lost again after they had found it. Peter Barnett is estranged from his grandmother, but received a letter from her asking him to return to his family’s mansion. Dandy Feltzen, having recently lost her grandfather, begins following the clues he left her, hoping to solve the mystery he’d been pursuing his entire life. Cass Jones, a writer from New York, is floundering after a failed book release, but is given a new opportunity to house-sit in Maple Bay for a family friend. These three characters, all on their own paths, converge in Maple Bay, and on the hunt for the treasure defining the community.

This story was a lot of fun! There was a while where I wasn’t sure how the characters would come together, but the way they were introduced to each other was quite satisfying. I really liked how feisty Dandy is in the book, even when dealing with the loss of her grandfather. The narration change from third person to first person in Peter’s chapters did mess with the flow of the book, but didn’t affect how much I enjoyed the story. Overall, I really enjoyed this story, and will be looking for more books by Tom Ryan in the future!

I received an advance e-book from Grove Atlantic and NetGalley, and all opinions are my own. 4.5/5

New people are showing up in Maple Bay Nova Scotia, a coastal town with beautiful views and historical secrets. Cass is house-sitting for a year and hopes to revive her defunct writing career. Peter is turning forty, and is contacted by his ninety year old grandmother who he didn't know existed. Her letter, inviting him back to his ancestral home of Bellwoods, came at a great time-his life was a shambles and he was happy to bail on his dodgy roommate. They enter a place of mystery. Local lore has it that a fierce sea battle ended with a treasure being brought ashore and buried somewhere on the grounds. Locals and out-of-towners alike have come looking for the loot with all sorts of devices, maps, and various levels of enthusiasm. It is even said that a few generations back, some townie children found the treasure and reburied it so they could dig it up later. Unfortunately, just when the younger generation gets serious about solving the mystery, their elders start dying without having revealed what they knew. Will Cass write the book that explains the mystery? Will the dead bodies stop piling up? Will Peter ever get that furnace fixed? And exactly what does the town librarian know?
This was a really fun read. Like in all mysteries, the reader immediately starts eliminating suspects...well good luck with that. There's a great plot twist that will make you feel like a fool when it happens and will make you rethink everything that you thought you knew. Happy hunting!

In Maple Bay, Nova Scotia, there is a local legend of buried pirate treasure. Peter's estranged grandmother writes to him, imploring him to return home. Dandy's grandfather dies, leaving her a mystery to solve. Cass is housesitting and stories of buried treasure make a perfect start to her next book. All three are drawn into the local stories and the club that has

The premise of this book had me excited for what was in store. I found the characters relatable and I loved the setting. However, as a whole it was a bit underwhelming. I can't pinpoint exactly what went wrong for me but I had to force myself to read the second half and the ending just wasn't as satisfactory as I had hoped it would be

Thank you to NetGalley and Grover Atlantic for the electronic advanced reader's copy of this book.

Overall I enjoyed the premise of this story. I love a good treasure hunt and small towns. I'm not sure I would say that it gives me "The Goonies" vibes as the majority of the story takes place in the now with three different character POVs. But there were a few scenes that gave me a similar nostalgia.

I love a good multiple POV story so this aspect of the books kept me very engaged. I did struggle sometimes with differentiating chapters and POVs, but that was only due to the formatting of the eARC. As many others have stated, Dandy was my favorite POV. She is so smart and dedicated to finding out what is happening in her town. <spoiler>I also always love an unreliable narrator.</spoiler>

Once you reach a certain section of the book, you CANNOT put it down. It will leave you speechless and you won't want to put the book down until you finish the story. So be warned.

If you love a good mystery, some treasure hunting, small seaside towns, and multiple POVs then this book is for you!

TTHC may promise you a treasure hunt, but the real treasure is the atmosphere and lore of Maple Bay. It felt very slow in the first half. It is also hard initially because the chapter titles do not indicate who of the three POVs we will read, so you had to read a little into each chapter to reorient yourself. Although, the chapter titles are a little fun. The lead-up and final showdown was the best, with the major twist that has been subtly set up finally paying off. I truly forgot about the subtle hint right until the twist occurred. Overall, a brisk read.

Thanks to Netgalley and Grove Atlantic for providing me with the e-ARC/DRC in exchange for an honest review.

A genuinely enjoyable read with some real twists - some I could see coming and some far less so. There was one particular reveal that had me gasping out loud, initially I wondered if it was *too* much of a shock - but the narrative all came together and every loose end was tied neatly by the end. Whilst the reveals weren’t - for me, anyway - guessable, they all made sense and fit with the overall story, which is one of the most important aspects of this genre. Too many writers like to throw in a shock twist for the sake of it, but everything included here fully served the narrative.

Canadian Shout Out!

I loved the twist. That being said this book wasn’t an exciting read for me. Although the twist was great, I felt it was forced and “random”. What I love most about mysteries is figuring things out, unfortunately for me The Treasure Hunters Club did not read like that for me. It might have also lacked a little in the treasure-hunting department, but that might be personal preference.

Within the book we follow three characters; Cass, Dandy and Peter which was a great addition. The characters throughout the book were great, however, I did feel that the characters were interesting, but it just felt like something was missing.

Thank you to Tom Ryan, Grove Atlantic and NetGalley for the digital ARC provided through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review!

I definitely picked up this book when I saw the location! I currently live in Nova Scotia so reading a treasure hunt mystery book set locally definitely intrigued me! I also feel like a treasure hunt book is the perfect summer read full of adventure and excitement!

The plot of “the treasure hunters club” follows three characters whose life events cause their paths to cross. They find themselves on the hunt for treasure and the rest you’ll have to find out for yourself!

This was a really fun story with a strong, character-driven plot. I felt that some of it was a little predictable, but that didn't take away from the enjoyment of it all!

The Treasure Hunters Club by Tom Ryan isn’t like anything I’ve read lately. It was a cross between treasure hunt, murder mystery, historical fiction and thriller. It definitely kept me on my toes and I have to say that I didn’t see the twist coming, at all. Which is pretty awesome, cause I’m usually pretty good at guessing the outcome. Was nice to be surprised. I love that it has a Canadian setting. Finding a book set in Canada is always a plus and makes me want to see the East Coast of my country. Dandy was my favourite. I was close to my grandpa too and the things she was feeling I could 100% relate to. The book had a fairly even pace, not fast, not slow, until the end when everything just rockets forward.

It was a solid book but, I felt it was lacking in the treasure hunt department. As it was part of the title and the blurb had it on par with The Goonies, I figured it would have some prominence, but I was left wanting more on that end of things.

If you’re on the hunt for a mildly paced murder mystery set in Canada, then this is one that you definitely was to pick up! I’d be curious to see if we get a series and more stories coming from Maple Bay, Nova Scotia, and this band of unlikely misfits.

I received this Arc through Netgalley and all thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book will have you guessing until the very end, and just when you think you know what’s going on, BAM, Tom Ryan drops a plot twist that you did not see coming.

A mystery with pirate treasure, a treasure hunt, in cozy seaside town - I'm in!

Easy reading, fast paced, interesting characters and plot, all in a very well-executed package. I had so much fun with this. An excellent summer read!

Many thanks to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for furnishing the ARC.

First, I'd like to thank Grove Atlantic and NetGalley for the early access to this book.

You know when you are expecting a bombastic story that is all over the place and then you are presented with a slow building one? It kills the vibe, but not this one!!!

Page after page it keeps on building, it keeps you on your toes trying to guess what happened to this treasure and what the heck is happening in this town!?!

It starts slow as a train leaving a platform, but it gets to a moment that you don't make pauses, you read everything to the end because now you're the one speeding, you're the one who needs to know how it ends!

And man, oh man, I loved it! Such a twist, I didn't see it coming at all!

And it ends up being such a sweet story, some of the character's arcs are just great!

It didn't feel like this could lead to a series, but I do hope the author writes more stories like this one!

I cannot wait for this to be released this fall! I made it through the first three chapters, then had to stop because it was too good to read as an ARC, and I wanted to wait for the actual book (with a map!)

Unfortunately, this book was not for me. It had an interesting premise with a hunt for a long lost pirate's treasure, but toward the end the plot took a turn that was just silly and ruined the book for me.

Thank you NetGalley for this arc.

This book kept me interested the whole time with the chapters varying between Peter, Dandy and Cass, the storyline and the twist in the plot. I enjoyed setting myself down each time to read this and find out more behind the Obelisk treasure and the peoples stories behind it in Nova Scotia. The ending section of the book was the highlight for me. I felt that there weren't as many twists in the plot that I was expecting (after reading the blurb) but the end twist put everything in its place and things I hadn't picked up on made so much more sense.
