Set in the quaint town of Maple Bay, Nova Scotia The Treasure Hunters Club follows the story of 5 friends and their descendants on the hunt for lost pirate treasure. Taking the best from the genres of mystery, adventure and intrigue Tom Ryan takes you on a decades long journey about friendship, family and the ties that bind or divide over lost treasure.

So well written with vivid characters and told from different perspectives the author keeps you invested in the journey and initimately invested in each characters outcome. Skillfully plotted with unexpected twists and turns, you’ll want to keep reading long into the night.

I would highly recommend giving this story a read!

Managing to strike a fine balance between an adventure story and a cosy whodunnit, The Treasure Hunters Club is ostensibly about families and inheritance. Three people - a 'Gen Z Nancy Drew', a washed-up writer looking for her next big strike of inspiration, and the long-lost scion to a prestigious local family - find themselves drawn to the secrets of a coastal town, particularly a legendary hidden treasure trove. Is it a perfect mystery? No, not quite - there are several instances of clunky dialogue and the split perspective (several POVs and a mysterious diary to boot) means that the fragmented narrative loses coherency as a result.

Despite all this, the tonal balance is great with a sense of warm found-family battling some genuinely dark and unsettling mystery beats, the whodunnit itself is well-constructed, and the twists, when they come, are genuinely startling, all of this leading to a deeply satisfying ending. The Treasure Hunters Club is a solid, enjoyable mystery that evokes classic tropes and feeling, to create something relatively fresh, like unearthed treasure finally coming to light.

This review is for an ARC which isn't the final version, so some things might change. Hopefully, some things might improve, because this book really deserves it. I almost gave it 4 stars, but I didn't like how one of the twists at the end was done, which was frustrating because it's a really nice idea that could have been explored much better. Apart from that, I liked it. It's a light summer read, preferably while you're on the beach, and it's entertaining. The writing is light and easy, in an informal tone (which I'm not usually a fan of, but that's a personal preference) but the story is intricate enough to keep you wanting to know what comes next. I'd also like to point out that maybe to fans of lighter, more informal reads and YA books this might be actually a good pick!

The Treasure Hunters Club is an enjoyable story surrounding a generations-old mystery. Three unconnected people all play their part in setting into motion this tale. The story takes place in Maple Bay in Nova Scotia. Peter, has been contacted by the grandmother his mother was estranged from. Now in her 90's she is reaching out to him as her only relation. She has things she needs to share. Cass is a YA writer, but her first book did not do well, and she is struggling with what is next. She has received an unexpected invitation to housesit for a year in Maple Bay. Finally, there is Dandy. With the recent passing of her beloved grandfather, she is at loose ends until she finds a message from him where he directs her to visit The Treasure Hunters Club.

The story involves a lot of characters across several generations and with many interconnections. While this could have made the story hard to follow, the author did a great job of laying the story out in a way in which I never was confused or struggled to follow. In Maple Bay, there is a long-held tale of lost pirate treasure. It has captured the attention of visitors as well as the locals. But the treasure isn't the only mystery that the area has hidden.

I enjoyed every moment of this story. The pacing and the characters all worked well together to keep me engaged and invested in the story. We are given enough information to try and unravel the mystery ourselves, but the unexpected turns and a stellar twist make for a
delightfully twisty puzzle. There is a cozy mystery feel to the story so in spite of a murder or two, the action is not too threatening. I am looking forward to reading more from Tom Ryan.

Thank you NetGalley and Grove Atlantic for the opportunity to read in exchange for my honest review.

Told from multiple perspectives, The Treasure Hunters Club begins with 5 boys who find lost pirate treasure. The book follows these 5 five families and how this discovery impacts them and their families for generations.
This book was so fun, it makes you think of the fun you imagine as a kid hunting for buried treasure, but come to life! The author did a great job weaving in the 5 different family stories and making it all make sense. A great plot twist and just the ending we needed.

Who wouldn’t want to find treasure? The idea was put forth in literature by Robert Louis Stevenson in his 1881 classic, Treasure Island. The key theme in it being an adventure, but not any kind of adventure, one chock full of maps, pirates and X marks the spot. Treasure Hunter’s Club by YA author Tom Ryan is a modern twist on the theme. The plot follows the tales of five children in search of pirate treasure. In childhood, many adventures are had during play using one’s imaginations of journeys into the unknown and world of possibilities. But, …What would happen if you did find the treasure? The story, set in Maple Bay, Nova Scotia unwinds and floats between the past and present. There is plenty of intrigue and mystery. Who are these childhood friends? Why are bodies piling up? So, if you are looking for a book that is combination of Treasure Island meets Pirates of the Caribbean meets,Oak Island meets a Generation X’er ‘s popular movie, Goonies, this book is for you. Coming out October 15th!!

Well, a story that seems quite innocent, pages after pages, turn out to be thrilling and full of mysteries and surprises. The storytelling is excellent, Tom Ryan is a real craftman to trap the reader into a spell of adventures and many, really, many redherrings. You guessed it, this is a real enjoyable time to read the story, and to feel more and more involved in the plot, to get trapped, to start thinking hard about who did it ? to realise no real logic is active, to wonder, and then, to have the green light about understanding and every detail previously read falls into place. Clever, really clever and highly amusing !
All opinions are mine, thank you to NetGalley and the author.

This book was a delight! I always loved books that are following some mysterious treasure stories, so the title really caught me from the start and it did not disappoint, though it is not your usual search for cues.

The beginning felt a bit slow, introducing the different characters who would intertwine in the novel. Peter, who is coming to Maple Bay for the first time to finally meet his grandmother, after 40 years without even knowing anything about her. Cass, who is house-sitting, while searching for a great story to write. And Dandy, the local teenager, whose grandfather recently passed away, and let her to take care of a mysterious treasure hunt, with a few older locals. I loved Dandy the most, out of the three characters, she was fun to follow, smart and involved.

Now to the story: Maple Bay is known for the Obelisk Treasure, a documented hidden pirate treasure, which has never been found and people are still seeking nowadays. Among them, locals know that there is more than the eye can see and that this story has been keeping generations of their families busy. What is the secret story behind the treasure?

The book is working mostly with one timeline and some extract from a book relating past events, instead of really having two different timelines, which worked rather well and felt very natural. The necessary twists to make the story stand out were powerful and unexpected. The pacing was excellent after the first few introductive chapters and it was difficult to put the book down. Some descriptions really got the suspense up, and I was feeling anxious for the characters.

It is one of my favourite read so far this year, and I will definitely come back for whatever this author has to write next!

A big thanks to NetGalley and Grove Atlantic for letting me have a taste of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you Tom Ryan, Morgan from Grove Atlantic and NetGalley for allowing me to read this book before its release date.

I have to say that I loved this book!! It was so exciting!! So many great twists in this book had me wanting to keep reading all the time. There were also a lot of great characters. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes to read adventure mystery type of books.

The description on the NetGalley site said “Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone meets The Goonies in The Treasure Hunters Club” and that is the best description for this book for sure.

Thank you again for this great book!!

An enticing premise about hidden treasure and murder is sure to get anyone excited about reading The Treasure Hunters Club. But overall, the mystery becomes tedious. Going between multiple POVs, (with the odd choice of one being told in first person and the others in third person) it becomes repetitive having to re-read information told between characters. Along with freely given stretches of journal entries to fill in the past makes the audience impatient for a climax to happen. Then, a weak plot twist and weak final resolution makes for a lackluster ending. For the book’s description to invoke The Goonies is a long stretch, and one to displease readers.

This book stepped up hard after the first 1/3 of the book, the setup was pretty slow but it all made sense in the last 50 or so pages when the dominoes came tumbling down and it had such a satisfying conclusion.

Peter, who has little to show for his almost forty years of life, Cass, a struggling author and Dandy, who is dealing with the death of her grandfather, all land in Maple Bay where they become entwined in the mystery of lost treasure.

The book started off quite slowly and dragged in parts. It was a lot more cozy mystery than thriller, which would have made it more interesting for me. However, I did not anticipate the plot twist so that was a good surprise.

If you like goonies, the curse of oak Island and a really good mystery then you'll love this. I devoured this book so quickly. It's quipy and fast paced. There were so many twists and turns and honestly it was just so good you have to read for yourself. I don't give a lot of 5 stars but this earned it

The Treasure Hunters Club by Tom Ryan. I think this book may be enjoyable if directed to a young adult or teen market. The characters were all different and a little interesting. Mirabel was very enjoyable but alas… I sometimes had trouble following the time line of the generations. I admit to not finishing but jumping to the end because I lost interest. Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

3.5 stars!
This was a cozy mystery that I really enjoyed - I loved the small, coastal town setting and the premise of lost treasure was a lot of fun.

It has three different perspectives which I loved and overall it was well paced. Each character was interesting and well written .

There were some twists and one in particular that was really good!

I feel like it was definitely a good book but I could tell this author writes a lot of YA - it felt like it should be targeted towards a slightly younger audience.

I enjoyed this treasure hunt for the most part. Lots of characters, lots of POV– but the layers between the past and present were layered in an interesting way. The formatting for the ARC was atrocious, so fair warning there. This is one of those books that I liked well enough (and one twist in particular made me gasp out-loud) but I’m not sure the story had enough defining features to make it stand out from another mysteries I’ve read. This wouldn’t stop me from trying another Tom Ryan novel but this book was just all right, in my estimation.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of this book. The premise of the book really intrigued me and while I enjoyed the story, it felt disjointed. The narration jumps around between multiple characters and journal entries from the past, so if you don't like a nonlinear story, this will not appeal to you. I enjoy books that go back and forth in time or between 2 characters, but this was a little too much for me. My favorite character was Dandy, a teen girl who played a major role. I did not see the plot twist coming, but in hindsight, I should have. Overall, I would give it 3.5 stars out of 5--good premise and enjoyable story with some fun characters but confusing at times and not an ending that I particularly liked.

This was such a fun adventure. The book blurb says this is "Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone meets The Goonies" and in a lot of ways it held up to that promise. The pacing was a tad bit slow for my personal taste, but I did think the characters were pretty well fleshed out given that it was also a mystery and sometimes mysteries are all about action, and not about character development. "Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone" had a great balance of mystery and character development. I sort of thought this was going to be a cozy mystery, and that isn't exactly true, there is more violence than I would have expected, but nothing horror level.

Buckle up and enjoy the ride.

Thank you to netgalley and publisher for the arc in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This is a fun read. An adventure story of buried treasures and family secrets. I loved the characters, I thought they were relatable, particularly Dandy (Danielle). Great location, it reminded me of the old Gothic stories - a big mansion near the sea with sprawling vegetation and old buildings. And setting it in a small village lend itself to the old Mysteries. I would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys these types of stories.
