5 stars (audiobook).

This cover looks amazing, and I’m sure that the illustrations within are fab, but I listened to the audiobook.

This is an amazing little book that details everything a young tween/teen might want to know about getting and managing their own period. The tone is kind, approachable, funny, but no-nonsense. Everything is just stated as it is, but leaves room for questions, and approaches some tougher-to-manage scenarios and general complications. The language (and voices) used are inclusive, which I appreciated.

Honestly, I wish that I had had something as all-encompassing and helpful as this (audio)book when I was starting out on my menstrual journey. There are even a few tips at the end for parents/care-givers to help make this transition as easy as possible for the young people in their life.

Huge gratitude to NetGalley and the publisher, Dreamscape Media | Mayo Clinic Press, for an AudioARC of this title, in exchange for my honest review.

This is a very simplified and good book. When it says it talks about periods, it's really all it focuses on. I think it was thoughtfully put together and would be appreciated by a younger audience and their parents.

This book was so cute! This was a perfect book for my almost eleven year old daughter to learn about her period. It was actually helpful for my 14 year old, as well. It made an uncomfortable much better. It answered a lot of my daughters’ questions. It’s well done and informative. I’d highly recommend. Huge thanks to netgalley and the audiobook publisher for allowing me to listen and review this book.

This is a short little audiobook for young people entering puberty that talks about what to expect when they get their period.

I liked that they used the term "people with uteruses" vs. gender when talking about who would benefit from this book. They did a nice job covering all of the options for managing your cycle. I also liked the variety of character voices narrator provided, but they may have sounded a bit young, especially considering kids who are in the phase where they're getting their cycle really like to pretend they're grown. I wish they had mentioned that tampons and cups can be painful for some people and not to feel bad if they don't work for you. I also liked that it is an audiobook so no one will see them reading something as embarrassing as a book about periods. The information was accurate, factual, and presented in an interesting way.

This is a well done book for those with uterus who are new to periods. The audiobook is only 45 minutes, making it easy to finish. It covers a lot of topics without going too deeply into any of them. Such as: what are periods, length and duration, PMS, period product options, when to seek medical help, etc

I do plan to use it to talk more with my pre-teen about all this. It's not a comprehensive one-stop-shop book, but that's ok! This should be an ongoing discussion anyway, and this would facilitate that.

The audiobook is well done with various voices pitching in with questions and answers. Very interactive that way.

Thanks NetGalley for the ARC!

Period, narrated by Gail Shalan, and written by Ruth Redford and Aitana Giraldez is a blunt and straight forward book about menstruations. Covering a multitude of topics including different types of feminine hygiene products, to clotting, and how to prevent leaks; this guide introduces a lot of topic with repeated guidance to seek the help of a trusted adult or friend when encountering something that is uncomfortable or alarming. My daughters are now teenagers so we have crossed this bridge and while we used a different book, I thought the bluntness of this book would have been better suited for one of my daughters. I am glad it is an option. At only 44 minutes, it's a fast read with a lot of information that will spark comfort, awareness, and hopefully the openness to ask questions. I also appreciated the gender visibility.

Thank you Dreamscape Media for the gifted ALC.

Period. is the starter knowledge arsenal I wish I had during puberty. It has a more frank discussion about periods than The Care & Keeping of You book that all of my friends owned. I was never given a copy of the American Girl book, so I secretly read my friends' copies at sleepovers in the bathroom while everyone else was sleeping. I used to wish I had owned that book, but now I wish I had owned Period.: The Quick Guide to Every Uterus instead.
It's not a particularly long book, and it doesn't provide as much information as people need when they get older, but for young people, this is gold, IMO. If you have a kid with a uterus, gift them the graphic novel or audio version of this book and demystify periods.
I listened to the audiobook, and it was well done. My one complaint is that some of the character voices were too high-pitched. I get it—they're kids—but it got annoying to listen to because kids don't usually sound like chipmunks.

Thank you, NetGalley, Dreamscape Media, and Mayo Clinic Press, for the ALC of this audiobook!

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for an advanced audio copy in exchange for my honest review. 4.5 ⭐️ rounded up. An awesome resource for both young people starting their menstrual cycle and any adults who support them. I loved how accessible and inclusive this was, and wish I had had something like it as a young person! Will definitely be purchasing this for my daughter to read one day and as a conversation starter. I love that it had a section in the back for adults, too. This guide was informative and also thoughtfully interweaved the emotions that accompany this time of life, which is really important in this conversations. I read this by audio and that is the only reason for 4.75 rating. If the narration was intending to capture younger voices, they should consider using a younger voice actor instead of having the adult narrator use a childlike voice. It came off as almost creepy and too playful. I would love to read this in physical form to see the illustrations accompanying it, and that may alter my view on the narration.

A well told and informative book on an important topic. It answers questions girls face very well. It is short and to the point. The comic format helps make it inviting rather than intimidating.

Love this book as a graphic novel and found the audio to be excellent as well. It is full of easy to understand, practical information explaining how the body works and how to take care of yourself during your period. My favorite thing about it is the approach it takes--not overly positive, not terrifying. Just that here is what is happening to your body so let's chat about it. Highly recommend for kids and their parents to read together--that includes kids who will never get a period because they need to understand how it works too.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to listen to this audio book before publication.

I know I'm way early since my daughter is only 3.5 years old, but I want to be as prepared as I can be for when the time comes (maybe not like Mei Mei's mom in Turning Red). I would really like to have this book in front of me while listening to it. I especially think it would be beneficial for young girls to have both so they can see everything happening that much easier.

I'm grateful my mom went over body stuff at 11 and we had a conversation about it. Things are way different now and I'm worried that 11 is too late. This audiobook is a great addition to any research done about periods for the sake of education. The book is presented as a one stop shop for information, and while I do think it covers almost everything, I feel like there should be more included in the book. For example, it would be nice if there was a workbook and/or period tracker included. Now, this may exist in the physical book, but there was definitely nothing like that in the audio.

The voice changes of the narrator were jarring at first, but they became understandable and well placed. The glossary was a nice addition as a quick guide.

This is being added to my future mommy/daughter talks bookshelf.

I think this book does a great job of explaining all things period. I will definiatly be using this for an upcoming workshop for students. As for the narrator, I didn't like them quite as much. The time they used the very winey voice was a bit to much and gimacky. I gave this book a 4/5 only because I do not know what the imagry is. I need to request the digital version to see what level of graphic or cartoonish it is.

Thanks to NetGalley for letting me listen to this audiobook. This is a fantastic resource, and I recommend it for both male and female young people. The content is mainly about periods, and there is a ton of helpful information, such as how to take care of yourself and how to know there is something wrong and you need to see a doctor.
While this is directed at young women, knowing this kind of basic information will help demystify it for everyone. Periods are normal and life doesn't have to change every month.
