A bit of a disappointment, to be honest. It started well but the second half of the book fell flat. I could have easily skipped 5-10 pages a couple of times without missing anything from the story. Books with more plot and less steam work better for me.

A Duke of One's Own by Emma Orchard is the sequel to The Runaway Heiress, this story features the romance of Georgie and Gabriel.

After helping Georgie in an unpleasant situation, Gabriel is all that Georgie thinks about and then she goes to a house party and the man of the hour, the Duke of Northriding is none other than her rescuer, Duke Gabriel Mauleverer. She tries to avoid him, thinking he is going to out her for being at the other party, but they can't seem to keep their eyes off of each other.

I enjoyed this book quite a bit, it's very different from all of the other regencies I've read and it was interesting reading about the hedonistic side of the aristocracy. I'm going to read the first book in this series next.

I was given this ARC by NetGalley and the publisher to give an honest review. All opinions are my own.

I enjoyed the first half of this book. I thought the romance built well considering how Georgiana and Gabriel met. The brevity of their initial relationship wasn't very believable, but that's not an uncommon occurrence in this genre. Steamy read, although the sex scenes got a little repetitive in the second half and would've appreciated more bedroom variety/creativity. I lost some interest in the second half, with Georgiana's friend and ex, which I felt became overly dramatic in a way that didn't seem to suit either characters or plot to that point.

Great read. I think this might have been a sequel to The Runaway Heiress but I hadn't read that.....its witty and the hero is just extra yummy!!

I like that Georgie explains to us the good, the bad and the ugly of aristocratic marriages. There's a side story with her aunt and her companion. Definitely love this author. It does have quite a few passionate scenes but they are well done. Thoroughly recommend.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I’ve got mixed feelings about this one. On one hand, it was lovely, exciting and with a great dose of spice. I love the chemistry between Georgie and Gabriel, although the building between the two of them could have been a little bit better. It’s all about the lust and although that is written well, the deeper connection was written quite poorly.
On the other hand, I had the feeling that the author took too much liberties with the time in which the story takes place. It didn’t feel real. I love the fact that there is a lot diversity, but unfortunately that was not how it was done. It felt too much and it made me not believe the complete story.
I also had some issues with the annoying way Georgie is insecure? On one hand the author tries to present her as a headstrong woman, on the other hand she acts like a boring little mouse.
But… the sex scenes are amazing, really well done!

Thank you to Net Galley and BoldwoodBooks books for providing me with an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review

This was a deeply enjoyable historical romance for fans of this genre. I enjoyed having a wilful, passionate and feisty FMC for the most part though she occasionally seemed a little over dramatic. Our C was brooding, dangerous and morally grey so he more than made up for a little drama.

We watch their story unfold with some delightful twists and turns and better yet some incredible support characters who added to the story in the best possible way.

I read it non stop and would highly recommend it for anyone who loves a good historical romance with a bit of spice 🥰

What I loved

- fun twists and turns you won’t see coming
- support characters who are brilliant in their own right
- the story feels realistic for the most part

Things that weren’t for me

- a couple too many twists that didn’t seem to really add anything overall! I love plot twists but they need purpose but nothing that detracted from the story
- the FMC is very dramatic - which is fine but took me a minute to get used to

A Duke of One's Own was a mostly enjoyable Regency romance romp. I liked the story premise and the main characters, and I thought their relationship developed in a believable way within the confines of the setup. Perhaps the views of the characters sometimes felt a little too liberal for the period, but I was willing to overlook that in order to enjoy the story, and that was the only standout anachronism. This one is very much at the bodice-ripper end of the genre, so bear that in mind when deciding whether it's for you. The sex scenes were well-written, and some of them really did help to advance the plot and character development, but a couple felt a little extraneous. Overall, though, this was a quick, fun read and I am giving it four stars.

I love a good spice Regency read and A Duke of One's Own is a new favorite! Georgiana and Gabriel are great and their romance is so fun to watch develop!

A slow burning book about the tearaway that is Lady Georgiana, who seems to like to cause mischief and cannot behave herself in a manner that is proper for the 1800s when this book is set. Will Georgiana be able to stay away from The Duke or will she find herself as the Duchess of a man who is so scandalous?

If you can't wait for Bridgerton to come in May, then this will surely fill in the gap until then.

A Duke of Ones Own is a steamy regency romance.

The setting in Yorkshire was great and made for a nice change from fancy London houses.

Gabriel is an interesting character and was thoroughly enjoyable to read. Georgie was a fairly approachable main female character. The supporting characters are also good fun. The small side plot with Georgies ex lover and friend was a bit OTT but not a big distraction. The steamy scenes were well written and not overdone.

Occasionally the book lost my attention for a short time but quickly picked it back up again.

Overall an enjoyable read and one I would recommend to lovers of this type of book.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance copy of this book.

I found this a real oddity, but overall, I rather enjoyed it and will look forward to reading more books by this author.

The author speaks of her admiration for Georgette Heyer, but although that was what attracted me to this book, I must confess that it bears little similarity to Miss Heyer’s books. However, I must also admit that I think Emma Orchard does write very well,- and even while I was questioning plot lines and character behaviour, I was never bored.

I thought the sub plot with the former ‘friend’ and her half brother was so over the top as to be positively bizarre. I couldn’t believe in that plot line at all.

There was a very high heat level in this book - which I don’t mind as I like a well written sex scene which moves the plot along or reveals more about the characters. However, there were rather a lot of them and I wasn’t sure that every one was necessary.

I loved Gabriel. Emma has created a fabulous hero here and I found him very interesting. I was a little unsure about the heroine Georgy.
. I do find it frustrating when writers transpose 21st century attitudes and behaviour into historical fiction. Yes, let’s show strong women working hard to live a fulfilled life in difficult circumstances. But please, can we.not pretend that those circumstances don’t exist!

I liked the settings in a Yorkshire, particularly in York. An enjoyable read.

A Duke of ones own is a regency romance where both protagonists are very in touch with their passionate sides which makes this book in particular full of very sensual, sexy and steamy scenes.
Lady Georgiana, Georgie, grows up with five brothers, so she is passionate, very curious and never afraid to follow her desires even if those bring her serious consequences for her and her family. When a so “friend” invites her to a not so respectable masquerade party, she didn´t hesitate to go, obviously curious of it. When she arrives, what she sees fascinate and terrifies her at the same time, luckily, she is intercepted by the Duke of Northriding, Gabriel, who suspects this lady dressed as a boy is in the wrong place and decides to aid her but little did he know that the damsel in distress had different ideas of how she wanted to be rescued. Their secret encounter left a mark in them but since neither of them learned who the other was, they lost touch until later they reunite at a house party of a friend of her family. From there is just one way trip to their destiny.
This story if funny, interesting and very steamy from top to bottom. I personally enjoy it a lot even if there is not much to learn about the historical period of the story. The description of the Yorkshire, its climate and surroundings were interesting to look at. Thanks NetGalley for letting me read an earlier copy of the book.

What a corker of a read! I expected a spoilt little rich girl who pushed the boundaries, there was a hint of that at the very beginning however the characters in this book were excellent. A real fighting of attraction and questioning of values and the position of women and relationships is explored. The mean girls that exist in all ages are exposed, and all of this alongside a wonderfully supportive family for Georgiana and Gabriel was sexy and cheeky enough to please!

"Summer, 1816. A notorious rebel is about to meet her match...

Lady Georgiana Pendlebury is no stranger to breaking the rules of polite society. But when a so-called 'friend' invites her to a clandestine party, Georgiana is shocked to discover the event is more scandalous than even she could have imagined. So when a mysterious stranger offers help, she accepts, not realising their encounter will turn her life upside down.

Later that summer, Georgiana is invited to attend a house party at an infamous castle in Yorkshire. The gathering is a loosely veiled effort to arrange a marriage for the Duke of Northriding, who desperately needs an heir. Duke Gabriel Mauleverer has a terrible reputation as a rake, and Georgiana is happy to be a guest purely for the entertainment, but upon arrival, she is shocked to discover that the Duke is none other than the stranger who rescued her weeks earlier.

As the other ladies vie for the Duke's attention, Georgiana is desperate to avoid their shocking secret getting out. But she finds herself caught, unable to avoid Gabriel's gaze. Are they a threat to each other? Or could they be the answer to each other’s greatest desires?"

I love the title and cover so very very much.

I'm not typically drawn to steamy books, but this one was so enjoyable that I couldn't put it down . Georgie and Gabriel were both strong characters, and I appreciated that their “romantic encounters” were equally driven by her as well as him.
