Thank you so much for providing me with the ARC. This one is unfortunately a DNF for me, i wasn't a huge fan of the narration and it made it hard to stay in the book. I'll look for an e-book copy to give it a shot! Will not leave a goodreads review based on a DNF. Thank you again!

The Nowhere Girls kept me entertained and guessing until the very end. Nikki, an FBI investigator who specializes in crime against children, is thrown back into a case from 15 years earlier. The case of the kidnapping and murder of her twelve year old sister. It turns out the case wasn’t as simple as it first seemed, and Nikki faces threats and attempts on her life in order to find justice for her sisters and other nameless victims. There are a few surprises along the way, and one devastating“what-if” relating to Nikki’s love life. My two small issues with the book is that some of the story is repetitive, and the in-person scenes between Nikki and her fiancé are odd. The Nowhere Girls is the start of a new series, with Nikki as the lead. I would recommend this book to those who enjoy crime books.
I listened to the audio version, and the narrator did a good job of distinguishing between voices and gave the right amount of inflection.

I was pleasantly surprised with this book! I thought the cover was cool and the description made it sound like a thriller I’d enjoy but be similar to all of there thrillers I’ve read this year. Oh my gosh, I couldn’t be more wrong.. Starting in chapter one I was hooked. I feel like this series could be the next Tracey Crosswhite series. I loved the way we find out information at the same time as Nikki and how this story develops. I wouldn’t have ever guessed the ending! I’m so excited for book two!

The narration of this book was perfect. She brought this story to live and delivered this story exactly the way it was needed.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Select for the audio-arc of this book! I couldn’t put it down!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for advanced access to the audiobook, in exchange for an honest review. The narrator is Madeline Pell. She did a fantastic job. She was engaging and expressive.

The Nowhere Girls By Dana Perry is the first in the Detective Nikki Cassidy series. Nikki Cassidy is an FBI agent who has a sad past. Her sister was kidnapped and murdered 15 years ago. Each year Nikki goes to the prison to talk to the murderer to ask him why he did it. Every year he refuses to talk, until this year! The Nowhere Girls was full of twists and was fast paced.

I would definitely recommend this book to friends. Looking forward to checking out the other two books in the series, Available April 2nd!

The Nowhere Girls written by Dana Perry and narrted by Madeline Pell is a gripping new thriller that is the first in the Detective Nikki Cassidy series

Right out of the gate, Madeline Pell is a fantastic narrator. This audiobbook was dynamic and engaging and the vocals were gold standard

The romance aspect was not my jam per se, but that is just a matter of taste because the main storyline was glorious and the characters dynamics enhanced an excellent storyline furhter, I just didn't gel with Nikki's partner's personality

The writing is brilliant, it is well structured and immersive. The pace is very well balanced in each change of scene and easily draws the reader along with it. Dana Perry's character development is intricate and I will be interested to see how Nikki Cassidy develops further

Thank you to Netgalley, Dreamscape Select, Bookouture, the author Dana Perry and narrator Madeline Pell for this compelling ALC. My review is left voluntarily and all opinions are my own

I absolutely loved this thriller.
Nikki Cassidy is an FBI agent. Her sister was murdered 15 years ago by a man now in prison. He has someone notify Nikki that he now wants to talk. She goes, finds it that he is dying, and he tells her he did not kill her sister.
Now, she vows to solve the murder and find a girl that just went missing.
Many thanks to Net Galley and Dreamscape Select for an audio ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

There’s a lot I liked about this, especially the whole mystery element, but also a fair amount that didn’t work for me.

What I liked:

Detective Nikki Casey is an unapologetically career-focused woman.

The mystery is clear at all times and unfolds believably.

The pacing is fantastic, I was never at all tempted to put this down.

I *had* to know how it ended.

We never got to know the sister and yet I was so invested in solving her mystery. That’s all we really want, right?

I couldn’t figure out the ending, even if I had ideas about the direction it’d take.

My complaints:

The romance element doesn’t work for me. She’s ranting about her sister’s murder and then her fiance is suddenly like ‘are you turned on like I’m turned on.’ Um… no??? Halp.

Speaking of, she gives literally 0 f*cks about her fiance. She describes him as a rich, good looking guy with no actual likable character traits and no explanation for why she likes him other than passable sex… and she doesn’t really like him. From his first mention it’s clear he’s at odds with her career and too traditional in his views to root for. He wants her to be the little lady at home, but she’s an FBI agent. So when she misses him 0% and immediately launches into a full fledged crush on a new guy, Billy, we’re not at all surprised. I just don’t get why she’s with the fiance?? Stop stringing him on, he’s right for someone.

The dialogue doesn’t read believably to me. It’s pretty expositional and formal (some of which can be explained by the protagonist being an FBI agent, but it serves to dehumanize a character who is already not particularly personable).

The way the agent thinks of herself is odd, too - she thinks like ‘became the woman I am today’ and the same wording is used by someone else later ‘became the woman you are today.’ Sure, she’s confident and has good reason to be, but OTOH isn’t adulting a little bit figuring it out as you go for everyone?

Some of the writing reads as boomeresque to me, like when she reconnects with an old high school classmate and says ‘I had no idea what to expect of you, you could have gained 50 pounds!’ like some weight gain would have fundamentally changed who her friend was as a person.

Still, this author can craft a compelling mystery so I’d read more from her… just preferably featuring a different protagonist.

Thanks, NetGalley and Bookouture, for the gifted ARC in exchange for an honest review.
