I LOVED this book. It was fun and quirky and exactly what I expected from Katherine Center. If you liked Hello Stranger, you will love this. I laughed out loud a few times especially during the end. It was fun and believable and I was rooting for the leads! Will definitely recommend.

Short summary - Emma is a huge fan of Charlie Yates - a popular screenwriter. Emma, being a screenwriter herself, gets a call from her best friend saying that Charlie needs help with his screenplay. Emma’s sister, Sylvia, drops everything to look after their disabled father with her boyfriend. Emma jets off to LA and from there they fall blissfully in love after a few hiccups.

The audiobook was so worth it due to Katherine Center reading Charlie’s bonus scene from Emma on the high dive. I absolutely LOVE when the entire book is from the FMC’s POV and then we get a bonus of his POV - it’s the cutest thing ever and like looking into a vault.

From the very first chapter I was smiling and I couldn’t get over how adorable these two are - they were definitely made for each other! I love the aspect of them writing a screenplay and then Charlie renames it to the Rom Commers? They put so much of what they were doing into it, it was basically a story they were writing about themselves!

This book made my heart happy! Pre order it and get this gem while you can!

The Rom-Comers

Hmmmm. I will say I loved The Bodyguard by Center. It was such a delight to read.

I think that Emma hard two very contrasting personality traits that didn’t quite add up for me.

We see her as this super serious caretaker for her father but once she is removed from that role, I felt that she became very naive and immature which didnt make sense for me.

Personally, I have a hard time reading stories of characters in their 30s being immature.

I enjoyed the love story between Emma and Charlie and I think Center did a wonderful job when writing about the heartbreak Emma went through with the loss of her Mother.

I will continue to request and read stuff by Center despite her last two books Ive read not being a fave because The Bodyguard was so good and I hope that there will be another book like it.

This was my first Katherine Center book and I loved it! I plan on putting all her books on my TBR list. This book was so sweet and funny. I literally laughed out loud on multiple occasions, which was mainly because of the MF sense of humour and the FANTASTIC banter between the main characters. At the same time, Center deals with the process of grief and survivors guilt in a very real and relatable way. I also love the way Center wrote this book as a beautiful tribute to the entire genre. Her points were well made and executed with style. Since I listened to this on audio, a huge shout out to the narrator, Patti Murrin, she really brought this to life, and her portrayal had me feeling like the MF was someone I knew. Cudos all around!

This might be Katherine Center's best to date. I absolutely loved the chemistry and banter between the main characters. The narrator did such a great job at expressing all the different emotions and voices. There were so many comedic and heartfelt moments. Truly a love letter to romance. I will be thinking about this for a very long time and recommending it to everyone.

I laughed and cried my way through this book. The way Katherine Center catches your attention with amusing dialogue and fantastic characters, but then breaks your hearts with character hardships and trials is just magnificent. I loved Charlie and Emma! Their chemistry was amazing. I loved their easy conversations and their sarcasm and wit. Charlie’s grumpiness paired with Emma’s sunshine personality made for a perfect match. Charlie’s transformation from someone who doesn’t believe in love to a man in love was just the best.

My only negative was that there is a lot of language in this book. More than any other KC’s books I’ve read. It was very heavy in the beginning and I almost stopped reading. Thankfully, the language calmed down towards the middle.

I was gifted the audiobook and the narrator did a fabulous job with each character.

This book was so easy to get lost in. It was funny, clever and heartfelt

I really liked this book, it was of course a beautiful romance. I love the one of them is famous Trope, honestly i am so lucky i got to read this early, and this was my first Katherine center book. Only i really wish they COMMUNICATED better, miscommunication is my number one pet peeve in any romance books, and it happens to be there a lot, other then that i think the book was written very well. I would recommend.

Okay, I loooved this book🥺 When I tell you I went through all of the emotions reading this, I literally went through ALL of the emotions reading this book. I laughed, I smiled, I was angry, I was sad, I cried (more than once!!). Katherine Center really made me feel it all!

The plot was such a great plot for any romcom lover - I mean of course it would be, just look at the title of the book. What I loved about the story though, and what I love about all of the Katherine Center books I’ve read, is that there is always so much more to the story than just a romance book or a romcom. There were a couple plot points in ‘The Rom-Commers’ which were really serious and emotional, and I found that made me enjoy reading the book that much more.

One of my favourite parts of this book were the characters. I couldn’t help but fall in love with our main characters Emma and Charlie. Watching how their interactions and relationship changed over the course of the book, just filled me with such joy. I was rooting for Emma to teach Charlie what love was the entire time, and was quite entertained along the way.

This was by far my favourite Katherine Center book, and would highly recommend it to anyone who loves romance books, romcoms but also an emotional read.

After a tragic accident that completely changed her family 1o years ago, Emma put all of her dreams on hold to be the primary caretaker for her father. She blames herself for the accident and has given up everything to help her family as a result. But when her ex-boyfriend/best friend Logan, offers her the opportunity of a lifetime, her family encourages her to go and finally chase her dreams. The opportunity is a chance to work with her hero, screenwriter Charlie Yates, and help him rewrite his terrible rom com. As they live, write, and work together, they get to know each other more, and as Emma tries to convince him love exists, she might also accidentally develop feelings for him.

Katherine Center does it again with another perfect book. The moment this book hit my email, I knew I needed to drop everything and read it. I was sold from the title and cover alone. But with Katherine’s incredible story telling, this book exceeded my already high expectations, and to no one’s surprise, I read it in one sitting. This book had me cackling from laughter and also had me Kim Kardashian ugly crying. The full spectrum of emotions I experienced when reading this book is testament to how deeply invested I was in these characters. I loved Emma and Charlie as individuals and together. Their banter was perfection, and the emotional hurdles they each had to overcome were heartbreaking and led to some beautiful journeys. I can’t say enough how much I adored this book, this beautiful love letter to rom-coms. I can promise this book will end up being one of my top books of the year. The audiobook was fantastic and brought the story to life. Patti Murin and Katherine Center herself did a phenomenal job with the narration.

A HUGE thank you to SMP Romance, Macmillan Audio, and NetGalley for the advance copies..

Katherine Center has done it again. The Rom-Commers was an absolute hug of a book. I laughed, I cried. My heartstrings were tugged. I loved every page. I related so closely with Emma and her journey and I adored Charlie and his growth. The Rom-Commers will sit on my shelf as another Katherine Center favorite of mine. BRAVO!

Thank you to NetGalley and St.Martin’s Press for a digital copy of this title. Additional thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for an Advanced Listening Copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

At the end of Almost Famous, the main character asks the legendary guitarist Russell Hammond, “What do you love about music?”

He gets a wide grin and says, “To begin with…everything.”

As I type these words, I’m realizing that scene may be my Roman Empire, but…

What do I love about this book? To begin with…EVERYTHING.

I consumed most of this on audio and let’s be real, Patti Murin didn’t really leave me any other choice. I will listen to just about anything short of right-wing propaganda if she narrates it.

Katherine Center, yet again, mixes the perfect amount of heart with humor. She makes platitudes palatable and relatable in a way that hits the heart instead of rolls the eyes. She is a marvel.

She even…wait for it…describes in detail one of my favorite Ji Chang Wook kiss scenes. I physically flailed and even sent her a DM. And then a voice message to bestie Sara. And then another text to a Ji Chang Wook stan.

Needless to say, I highly recommend this title. Especially on audio, if you’re able/inclined. Pre-order this with my full confidence. This title will be released on June 11, 2024. It will be the perfect poolside companion.

My bimonthly allotted romance novel and I enjoyed it. It wasn't cheesy, but Emma, the MC, could be a little obnoxious (and pushy, like, girl...). Definitely think it's worth reading if you are thinking about it. The epilogue was cute, I love a neat little bow and flash forward to their lives after the story.

I really enjoyed this book! The banter between the characters was fun to read, and the way their relationship blossoms over time had me smiling while I was reading. I thought the premise of the story was unique and fun, and the characters were developed and believable. There was depth to the story and it is well-written. I loved the epilogue at the end of the book, because just like a classic rom-com, it gives us a glimpse of where the characters end up in life after the closing scene.

Some quotes I liked from this book:

“All we have is what we have”

“Happiness is always better with a little bit of sadness”

This book is so good. Katherine Center can WRITE a romcom. She did so well writing about the fears, anxiety, and desperation that love pushes us into but in a fun, positive way. The audiobook is fantastic and Patti Murin can do no wrong. Highly recommend!

Emma and Charlie are both writers. Emma has been offered a once in a lifetime opportunity being a ghost screenwriter for Charlie Yates. Emma travel to LA to write a romcom screenplay for 6 weeks and left her whole life behind. Emma leaves to learn that Charlie never agreed to have a screenwriter. So now Emma has left her dad, life, and is in LA without a place to stay.

Okay I love this couple. Emma is a sweetheart though Charlie was so bratty at the beginning gosh but he came around. The tension between them Oh my gosh!😦. This was an amazing romance book.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Typical rom-com book but it was really enjoyable. The characters were relatable and for a rich guy, he wasnt too snobby :)
I really like this author and will read all of her books.

Thanks Netgalley for this ARC.

Charlie Yates can write for just about any genre but when he's tasked with writing the screenplay for a romantic comedy it flops. His agent pleads with him to rewrite it and offers the assistance of a talented but unknown writer, Emma Wheeler. Emma has dreams of making it big as a screenwriter but when given the chance to work with her idol she has some regrets.

The Rom-Commers is a stand-alone, contemporary romance. There are a lot of layers to the plot so it's hard to nail down a specific primary trope. They’re not quite enemies but not quite friends either. I would consider this a forced proximity situation more than anything else.

Beyond watching the development of the MC’s relationship, both of the main characters have extensive personal growth. I found Emma to be incredibly relatable in that she fully embodies the role of an older sibling and all that that entails. It was also interesting to see how her relationship with her family changes from the storyline.

Have you finished a book and thought “oh I want to reread this immediately”? That is how I felt after my first read of The Rom-Commers. I was fortunate enough to be able to also listen to the audiobook a few months later and I can conclusively say that the book was just as good the second time. Patti Murin is a fantastic solo narrator. She does a wonderful job bringing out Emma’s personality.

I’ve reached the point where I can’t choose a favorite Katherine Center book because the quality of her writing is just so consistently excellent. I don’t know what she has next for her readers but I look forward to it.

I voluntarily read, listened to, and reviewed advanced copies of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you to the author, St. Martin’s Press, Macmillan Audio, and Netgalley!

This was an excellent Romantic Comedy! I love Katherine Center's easy to read writing style. This book kept me engaged throughout and I found myself genuinely caring about the characters. No spice in this one! And I loved the narrator!!

A rom-com about writing a rom-com, what could be better?! This book is as humorous as you would assume it to be. But there was a lot of heart, emotion, and sadness woven in as well. The main character, Emma, is… a lot. But she was so lovable, and I really enjoyed her. It wasn’t just the red hair, her personality reminded me a little of Lucy (as in “I Love Lucy”). She is pretty much the opposite of Charlie, who is her favorite screenwriter of all time. Emma is a talented writer herself, but has had to miss opportunities to advance her career because she is the sole caretaker of her father. But when she gets the chance to work with Charlie on a rom-com project, she takes it.
It was definitely a crazy emotional roller coaster ride, but with more laughs than not. These two go through quite a bit in their lives. If you love clean romance, forced proximity, witty banter and laugh out loud comedy, and a slow burn, then you will love this! I have so many different thoughts on this one, it’s hard to put into words. For the emotion and surprises though, this is definitely a 5 ★ for me. I listened to the audiobook thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio, and it was perfect! We get to hear a little from Katherine Center, but the story was read by Patti Myron and she was excellent! I am so happy I was able to listen.
