A heartwarming story about friendship. The story is told from 3 point of views, which keeps the story interesting. This was a fast read but felt rushed at some points.

Was not expecting heavy topics, but they were written tastefully.

I enjoyed the character growth but wish there was more of the romance.

Thank you Net galley for sending me the book!

Exploring the power and struggle of friendship, The Summer Pact looks at the intricate nuances friendships face as people grow and change over time. The question is, can the friendship between Tyson, Lainey, and Hannah survive the changes. They thought the devastating loss of one of their friends would be the worse thing to ever happen to them but, a summer trip full of unexpected twists may prove the biggest obstacle yet. Giffin's command of the written word brings the characters to life in a vibrant and poignant manner.

Summer, Hannah, Lainey, and Tyson met freshman year. They became quick friends and spent all their time together. They developed a bond. Until Summer committed suicide their bond was sealed and a pact secured. Several years later Hannah’s world is turned upside down and it’s time for the pact to be called in. As the friends rally to support Hannah, they explore their pact, dig deep into their own personal problems and realize that they are not just friends but family. Through their inseparable bond that is forged during a trip through Texas, Capri, and France…they discover that Summer was the tie that bonded them, but it’s up to them to hold it together.

Thank you Ballatine Books, Random House and Net Galley for the eARC copy. Emily Giffin is one of my favorite Authors who writes about real life situations in a very captivating way. This is a beautifully written story about the ugliness and the prettiness of life situations and how true bonded friendships can exist and be there for you through the trials of life. Giffin captivates you with the description of her characters and the scene they are in. I felt like I was in Capri while they were there watching the sunsets and walking along all the cobble stone! Perfect read just in time for Summer. There are some heavy topics in this story so be sure to check the trigger warnings.

Emily comes back with another great story about friends who have been through the worst part of life together. They are there for each other and support each other. But I did feel some of it was a bit cliche and just checking the boxes of modern love experiences.

It has been a long time since I’ve read an Emily Giffin book, so I was very excited when I got approved to read an advanced copy.

The story itself is beautifully tragic. Three best friends set out to find themselves (and help each other) years after a very tragic loss.

The character development is strong, and I love how Giffin switched the narrative perspective each chapter, giving us each character’s point of view from the same timeline before moving forward. I also appreciated the many current cultural references.

The ending, for me, felt very rushed. I expected at least another 50 pages. That being said, Giffin did wrap it up nicely and tied up any loose ends.

Overall, I would recommend this book to Emily Giffin fans.

I loved this book, just like I love all of Emily’s other book. She took a very hard subject, suicide and turned it into a way to have the 3 remaining friends become even closer. This book had a part or two I could guess what happed, but I was very pleasantly surprised also. These three friends found a way to stick by each other and hold each other up during some of their darkest times. I loved how this book also touched on some other hard subject having toxic family members, acoholism & cheating partners. It’s nice to see more fun books that also show that everyone’s lives are not perfect.

This is powerful book. You will feel a whirlwind of emotions. You will watch a group of unlikely friends become each others everything, as people like to call their ride or die friends. It follows a path of friends from college into adulthood and through life events and self discovery. You will be crying with them and cheering them on through each journey they take. You will want to visit the places, see the views, and enjoy the food and drinks. It is a very inspiring story of of 4 unlikely people becoming everything they dream possible and more.

You can never go wrong with Emily Giffin. She is the perfect summer read! This one was enjoyable and an easy read. I felt like there was loads of build up and then it rushed at the end. I’m really hoping this isn’t the end of hanging out with Lainey, Hannah, and Tyson. I want more about their journey beyond the point in which the book ended.

Great themes and friendships that hopefully everyone gets to experience in their lifetime. Bring them back soon please ❤️!

This was a cute story and perfect for the summer!

Three friends decide to take a trip in hopes of mending broken hearts and past hurts. Lainey, Tyson, and Hannah are best friends from college that tragically lost their best friend, Summer. They make a pact that whenever they need each other, that they’ll show up, no matter what. After Hannah faces heartbreak, Lainey and Tyson come to her side to help her move forward.

This was a super sweet story about friendship, heartbreak, and new beginnings. I loved the dynamic between the 3 friends and watching them grow throughout the story. I was annoyed by Lainey and her childish behavior and I do feel like the ending was rushed.

Overall a cute enough story to keep me engaged! Thank you Netgalley for the ARC!

I really enjoyed this book. I enjoyed all three of the main characters and really felt like you got to know them and why they were doing what they did. I felt like I was in Italy with them and only wish the ending was longer and more developed because I didn’t want the story with these three characters to end.

When four freshmen cross paths in a study lounge at the University of Virginia, they become fast friends and form a friendship group that cannot be broken despite their differences in circumstances. Hannah is sweet, quiet, and grew up with an overpowering southern mother in Georgia who often cared more about appearances than the happiness of her daughter. Lainey is a creative and theatrical party girl from California with a wonderful mother but has emotional scars from her father’s abandonment. Tyson is a smart and conscientious guy who is hoping to follow in the footsteps of his parents and become a lawyer. Despite the fact that his family is wonderful, he is put under an immense amount of pressure to have a successful career and live up to his family’s high expectations. Summer is a strong-willed athlete who does not settle for anything less than perfect and is the de facto group leader.

When an unthinkable tragedy happens right before graduation, their lives are changed in one instant. Each of the friends grieve in their own way but all agree that if any of them are ever in a time of need, they will be there for each other. Ten years after graduation, Hannah faces an unexpected heartbreak and immediately calls her closest friends who come together to support her in her grief. In their effort to support Hannah, they each discover that they themselves are at a crossroads in their lives and set out together on a group trip of self-discovery.

This book was so touching and heartwarming! I couldn’t put the book down and flew through it very quickly. The story is told from multiple perspectives. I felt that each character was very well-rounded and well-developed. I enjoyed each of their perspectives and could definitely see what each of them brought to the friendship group! I enjoyed Lainey’s dramatics and crazy ideas, but my favorite character was probably Hannah. I found her to be so relatable. I was really rooting for each of them to find happiness. I was seriously honored to be chosen to review this book. I have been reading Emily Giffin’s books loyally and repeatedly since Something Borrowed and Something Blue. I just adore Emily and her writing. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next :)

Thank you NetGalley for my arc.

I'm such a fan of Emily Giffin’s books and enjoyed this one! While it was less of a romance and more of a story about found friendship, I still found myself curious about the storyline. Not my favorite of hers but still recommend!

The Summer Pact by Emily Giffin a pact was made after a close friend (Summer) decide to end it. Now her closest friends Hannah , Lainey and Tyson have to deal with her passing they know now when either of them are in a position where they can’t overcome it they will drop everything and help them through a rough patch in honor and promise of Summer’s passing. Although it’s not your typical beach read Emily gives us multiple points of view in this case you can always overcome although it may be hard at first but when you are surrounded by good people the heavy weight of it will be lifted. Other topics will be heartbreak, heartwarming, romance, trials, wrongs righted, allegiances, triumph.

I’ve loved other books by Emily Giffin so I was excited to get an early copy of her newest, The Summer Pact. I have to say that I was a bit disappointed. While it was an enjoyable read, it didn’t wow me as a few of her books have. That being said, it was a good story of four best friends who met in college. One of them, Summer, commits suicide while they are still in college. The other three make a pact to always be there for each other. The bulk of the story takes place when they are all at a crossroads in their lives and come together to honor that pact and help each other. Overall, an okay read for me.

I was really excited to read this book as I've really enjoyed Emily Giffin's books in the past. This book didn't live up to my expectations. It was just average and all of the "woke" content and political jabs were just too much.

This book touches all of the human emotions!! There is laughter, tears, concern, and admiration. This is a story of amazing friendships that are stronger than any other bond. Three college friends vow to drop everything and support each other anytime they hit a low in life. This vow is put to the test and choices are made that aren’t always easy. The Summer Pact takes you from Texas to Cypress to Paris. Many trials follow the friends, and at times the reader questions whether the friendship and the Summer pact can last forever.
