I honestly wasn’t a fan of this one. I almost gave up because it was so slow to start, but once it picked up it got a lot better! It was just really slow

I really thought I would enjoy this one. I was expecting a fast moving murder mystery, but it was dragging and nothing was truly happening. I couldn't get into it at all. I had to DNF.

I really enjoyed this story! I had no preconceived notions before reading this story. I only knew what was perceived from the cover. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised! I enjoyed the shop talk and getting an inside look at the reporting arena! I didn't mind the political talk, I enjoyed it. Jolene is likely someone I would befriend in real life. Also, being from Phoenix- this was so fun to listen to. There was a certain spot in the audio where I had to giggle as Jolene meets someone in a shady parking lot....I kept thinking, that's the Costco I shopped at for years! I've never had that experience with a book so it was really fun.

I'm not entirely sure I would have classified this as a murder mystery. There is a murder and mystery but I don't find it to be the main or best theme in the book. Either way, I enjoyed it and would definitely read more by this author.

The audio was also very good. This was my first audio with this narrator. Marcella Black did a great job, she kept the book flowing and her voice really matched the tone of the book. The transitions between chapters flowed well and her inflection was spot on. I'd say the audio of this book is the way to go! Thank you @netgally and @Dreamscape_Media for an ALC. From the cover and blur I expected this to be a quick moving murder mystery, instead it felt like a drawn out examination of politics and the problems of challenges with modern media / social media. It moved very slowly and I had a hard time connecting to the characters, making it very difficult to stay engaged with the story. I wasn't able to finish this one, it wasn't for me...

First things first, the narrator. While I enjoyed the story being told overall, I felt the narration was a bit flat a majority of the time. It was difficult to differentiate tone and characters. I also had to increase the speed significantly.

When they said “controversial talk show host” they could have gone so many directions. This book had so much potential, but the constant talk of politics really ruined it for me. I wanted a fun mystery murder book.. and got rants and rants about political controversies. I can watch the news or scroll through the X app for that.

I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this book, but I would still tell someone to read it [with disclosures.]

Thanks so much Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for the ALC.

I listened to the audiobook and the narrator did a good job. DNF at 45%. Way too political for my taste and even though there was a lot of dialogue, there was no action. I’m sure this will be a favorite for some, but it wasn’t the book for me.

A fictional and entertaining behind the scenes of a reporter investigating a radio host mysterious death. I enjoyed all the journalism talk, had a very up to date view on how news are being spread today. There were lots of suspects to watch out for and lots of momentum to keep the story moving.
The audiobook was very enjoyable, the narrator did great work with all the characters parts.

Off the Air by Christina Estes and narrated by Marcella Black is an outstanding debut that also works really well as an audiobook. Marcella Black has the perfect timbre and cadence to match the pacing and dialogue and the wide array of characters

Jolene Garcia is a dedicated reporter who is constantly battling to get her scoop to the air without the credit being taken by the network and her competitor, the obnoxious JJ, her opposite in every way. When a famous DJ collapses and expires, the race is on to get the scoop and Jolene is having the spoils of her hard work skimmed off at every turn, by the anchors, JJ, the network, and now, the killer is after her

Estes creates fantastic characters, great dynamics between them and Jolene is utterly relatable. After all, how often do we work our backsides off only for our boss to take our work and all the credit and send us back out into the fray again! Estes writes personalities so well, that you are left in no doubt about how you feel about each one and their part in the storyline

A really enjoyable mystery and a fantastic debut. I am really looking forward to more from Christina Estes

Thank you to Netgalley, Dreamscape Media, the author Christina Estes and narrator Marcella Black for this outstanding ALC. My review is left voluntarily and all opinions are my own

A solid, entertaining debut cozy murder mystery set in the world of cutthroat on-air journalism. I liked this one a lot and it was easy to listen to on audio. Would definitely read more by this new author! Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital and audio copy in exchange for my honest review!

Jolene Garcia is a TV reporter trying to make a name for herself in the Phoenix market. Somewhat hapless, she always seems to be one step behind JJ, the golden reporter from a rival station. When a local contentious radio host is found dead by poison, Jolene has the advantage of having been the last person to interview him. That advantage soon fades and once again she is playing catch up. When she gets a tip that may lead her to the murderer, will she be able to solve the case and not endanger her own life? And the bigger question: will she finally win an Emmy?

*Special thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape for this audio e-arc.*
