The first book in the series was better than this second one. Jane is still an ex-cop and a smart lawyer, and she is still battling terminal cancer. The dialog in this book is really stellar, sharp and biting and very realistic. The problem is the plot, which is murky and confusing and involves way too many people. All the characters seem to run together in my mind, with no one standing out as memorable. You cannot tell who is good or who is bad, but in this type of book that's a good thing. I just got so confused by all the characters that by the time the climax arrives, I really don't care. Jane is still an interesting character, though, and I'm happy the authors decided to make this a series, although with the protagonist's terminal cancer diagnosis, the series may be short. Just please develop the characters so that they stand out when reading. Thanks to NetGalley and Little, Brown and Company for providing an ARC.

This is the second book in this series and it as another hit from the authors. A good mystery with a lot of suspense and page turning excitement. This is a book which I would recommend to all who like a good mystery.

Jane Effing Smith is back again with her pal Jimmy defending Rob Jacobson for a second time on a déjà vu case mirroring his first acquittal. Hard to Kill is the second book in the Jane Smith series and I loved it! This storyline wove more about her personal side as she grapples with fighting cancer and evaluates her life. No spoilers to be revealed in this review, but I highly recommend Hard to Kill and Jane Smith is a fantastic character. 5 stars! Thanks to NetGalley and Little Brown and Company for providing an ARC in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own. Publication Date: July 29, 2024

This was really good. It had a lot of suspense to it, the ending was really good. I felt bad for Jane and her sister. There is never a dull moment in the books that James Patterson writes. I'm grateful that netgalley and the publishers let me read this in exchange for an honest review.

Well this was a fun book! Jane Effing Smith is a total badass. Lately, James Patterson’s books have been better than ever and I don’t know if that’s thanks to his co-authors. But I can’t wait for the next book in this series!

Let me start by saying “I can’t wait for the next Jane Smith book”. This series (I hope) is totally intriguing. Jane is a brilliant and wonderful heroine, plagued by multiple dangers. Her vulnerability and humanity are underlined by her battle with cancer.

Here we are back with Jane about to defend Rob Jacobson on his second triple murder charge. It becomes apparent that there’s a lot underlying these new charges. Serial killer, cruel coincidence? Or set up by a mastermind of revenge and murder.

This is exactly the kind of book that lovers of thrillers enjoy. Lovable heroine, loyal wingman, plenty of violence, engaging characters. I loved it!

Thank you Netgalley for a really great read.
