The cover is what drew me in and had a tension that I was looking for. The characters were everything that I was expecting and thought they worked in the historical setting. Hugo de Burgh has a great writing style and that the characters felt like they were supposed to in this world. I thought it showed the horrors of war and had realistic interpretations of characters.

This is an interesting book and a bit different to other books of this genre I have read recently. The story is a good one but the writing made it a bit confusing at times and it was hard to follow. This meant my enjoyment of this book/read not as good as I had hoped but I must say the author is on the right path but it does need a bit of work to neaten it up and make it an easier read.

Thank you NetGalley and Troubador for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

This story was hard for me to understand. It may make sense to you. As Nazi troops are destroying villages, there is a toen of 600 which is a prison. A young widow and her friend work on a plan to help them escape.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Outside an Italian village, WWII POWs need to escape and find their way out of Italy. Seeing the courage of the Italian people, the leader decides to help them escape the Nazi war machine. Well written historical fiction.

I desperately wanted to like this book, because WWII stories are my absolutely favorite. I found this so difficult to follow and stay interested. The book starts out with such a sweet story of a lost young boy connecting to a main character who risks everything to help this child. I have not given up, but find this difficult to get into fully. So far I will give this book 3 stars, but will update when I make it further.
Thank you to NetGalley, Hugo de Brugh, and Troubador for generously allowing me to oread and review this title.
