I have a bit of mixed feelings with this book, but that is just because of how I am.

I started loving the whole storyline, they were best friends that ended up dating, but something tore them apart and made them enemies. I ate that up so fast.

But as I kept reading my feelings started to change. I am not a big fan of reading about infidelities and all that, so I was really scared it would happen as I kept going. But thankfully none of that happened, but still made me feel weird at parts. Again, it's just my preference.

However, the rest of the book was sooo cute. He did a good job grovelling and there were so many cute interactions, especially when her little sister appeared.

Childhood best friends Nathan and Brenna have been lovers, enemies, and then lovers again. They had grown up next door to one another for years, but when family issues interfered with their high school romance, they broke up. That is, until Nathan's father passed away and left half of everything to both Bren and Nate.

Nathan and Brenna realize their previous feelings have not gone away, and after a breakup, a winter storm that turns into a power outage in which they are trapped in one room with four cats, and confessed feelings, they finally grasp what they have been missing all along.

I love this story from beginning to end. It's more than a story of love. It's a story of hurt, loss, change, second chances, and family, with many unexpected surprises along the way.

Thanking Kathryn Kincaid and NetGalley for the ARC!

Childhood friends Nathan and Brenna, once inseparable, reunite years later due to an unexpected inheritance: Nathan’s father's house, business, and four cats, under one condition—they must work together. Struggling with past hurts and a sizzling attraction, they navigate flipping properties while facing personal challenges. Brenna fights for custody of her sister, while Nathan faces a potential career-ending injury. Despite their rocky history, they rediscover their love. Resisting the pull of the past proves difficult as they confront their painful history. But with time, perhaps they can find solace in their temporary forced togetherness.

After reading and loving Kathryn Kincaid’s debut, Play Your Part, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Call Your Shot! It did not disappoint!

Told in alternating first-person perspectives, the story follows Brenna and Nathan. I loved both Brenna and Nathan. Brenna is a highly sensitive person, also referred to as an HSP. She feels things much more deeply than others, both good and bad. Nathan is such a caring, compassionate partner. He cares deeply for Brenna and respects her needs as an HSP, even when things between them are rocky.

The story highlights one of my favorite trope mashups: childhood friends-to-lovers and second chance. Brenna and Nathan were together in high school, were driven apart by family issues, and reconnected as adults. Call Your Shot is a unique take on the genre and is not one to be missed if you are a fan of the tropes!

Thank you to Kathryn Kincaid and Netgalley for the advanced copy! All opinions are my own.

Baseball romance and second chance romance: signed me up! I loved Call Your Shot by Kathryn Kincaid. Nathan and Brenna were each other’s first love and baseball teammates (pitcher and catcher, obviously!) Nathan‘s dad died and left them both a building and a business, but they had to work together for six months. Can they overcome their childhood pain and see each other as adults?

A little little bit spicy, a lot sweet. This was so much fun! Thank you, NetGalley. for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Overall, I just didn’t connect to the characters or the story in any way which made me enjoy this book less and less. This book moved fast while reading and the chapters went quick, but also at times I felt like I wasn’t making in progress. I felt like the characters didn’t have consistent personalities and some of the things they said/did would contradict with how they were described. I got confused when we finally found out more information on why they split apart in the younger years and a lot that happened in the past timeline. I also don’t typically like when one of the main characters is in a different relationship in the beginning and how that factors in. It was also a little weird to me the way they were almost (kinda but not really) step siblings and that’s a trope I always avoid when I know about it so didn’t love that. I did like the fact the author included HSP in this book as I didn’t even really know that was an actual diagnosis!

I received a digital copy from NetGalley & the author of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

This book was a lot of things. Told in dual POV, we meet Nathan and Brenna when they are teenagers who have just declared their interest in each other after being friends for years. We then move to current day where Nathan's father has passed and left his estate to Nathan and Brenna. The book follows their love story in past and present. There are no glaring problems with this book and the story moves along at a good clip. I enjoyed the book and thank Kathryn Kincaid and NetGalley for an advanced copy.

I want to start off by thanking NetGalley and Kathryn Kincaid for my advance readers copy, and for requesting my honest opinion.

Now I am going to start off by saying that second chance romances are my least favorite trope and have to be done very particular for me to enjoy them. I took a chance on this book because the premise was so intriguing. But unfortunately for me I never love when the hero has to live in a universe where he has to watch the heroine have a relationship with other people. To make matters worse the hero stubbles into the heroine having private time with the OM. I just feel at this point these people have moved on and the relationship is done. I just can’t buy after all this time and all the other situations happening that they love each other and are meant to be.

I do love this authors writing and the way she tells a story is so fun. I will definitely be reading more by her. I just need to be aware that second chance romances are not my thing and leave it at that. There are so many people who would love this and I hope they find this book soon. This will land at a 2.5 stars for me.

This was a fun read but it just lacked a little something compared to the first in the series. However, it was still lots of fun to read. I am not a fan of cheating and so the parental cheating was a little difficult to read but written really well. I really enjoyed the flashbacks and the dual POV. These were both used in a way that really enhanced the story. The two characters were lovely but I would have liked a little more sport. I hope this series continues and I look forward to reading the next in the series.

Big thanks to NetGalley, Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op and Kathryn Kincaid for this early release copy of this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

“Two childhood best friends, one last chance at love, everything to lose.”

I am 100% a sports romance book girlie. Hockey, foot, soccer, you name it. Now in real life? I’m a baseball girlie. Finding baseball romance isn’t the easiest so when I saw this book on NetGalley I requested it immediately. Last summer I had the pleasure of reading Kathryn’s hockey romance and loved it, so I knew this one would be just as good.

Let me tell you. It wasn’t just as good. It was better. I loved Play Your Part (Kathryn’s hockey romance book), but she truly found her voice with this one. I don’t want to go too much into the plot because of spoilers, but Goodreads has a great synopsis.

Childhood friends to lovers ✅
Childhood friends to lovers to enemies ✅

This book had all the feelings that I love from these tropes and more. One minute I was laughing out loud. The next I was openly weeping. While I absolutely loved Brenna’s character growth, we see so much of Nathan’s throughout the story. While Brenna has come to terms with so many of the hardships that have been handed to both her and Nathan, he takes a little longer, making his journey all the more sweet. The angst and tension was top tier.

This book is perfect for fans of Love and Other Words and Every Summer After but with a sports twist. I already cannot wait for the author’s next book. This one is out now!!! And on KU!

Thank you so much to NetGalley, Victory Editing NetGalley Co-Op, and the author for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Maybe Brenna's family was too messed up but I wasn't as hooked by Call Your Shot as I'd been by the previous of this series (Play Your Part).

There are many interesting secondary characters but maybe too many off them for us to really get to know them as they deserve it.

Nathan and her are very sweet and if you're into hometown love and childhood sweathearts, this novel is for you.

Thank you to Kathryn Kincaid and NetGalley for providing an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Nathan + Brenna were childhood best friends and briefly dated 8 years ago. When they broke up their relationship was left in shambles. Fast Forward to present day and Nathan is playing baseball in the minor leagues and Brenna has a fiancé in a separate state while she is taking care of her mom and sister. Following Nathan's father passing, Nathan and Brenna are both asked to come to the will reading where they receive a joint ownership over his father's cafe and house. One problem is the can't sell for at least 6 months.

I loved Nathan POV, but I did not love Brenna's at the beginning. Her fiancé really annoyed me and she was not straightforward to him which bugged me. Usually I love the build up tension in books before the couples get together, but I actually really enjoyed the couple once their relationship was further established later in the book. I thoroughly enjoyed the ending of the book and the chemistry the had.

Also the representation of HSP was really good. It was a really good addition to Brenna's character and the storyline.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is my second Kathryn Kincaid book; I started with the first in this series, which was a hockey romance. Call Your Shot had similar writing to Play Your Part where the MCs have deep problems in their life that they need to work through in order to allow them selves to love and be loved. The MMC is very well written and easy to fall for. The FMC has family issues that persist throughout the story. The writing wasn't always my favorite but the storyline overshadowed those qualms.

Nathan and Brenna are two characters I fell in love with right from the start of the story. I felt like I was on an emotional rollercoaster, and I loved every moment of it. I was already a fan of the author's writing after reading Play Your Part last year, and this one was even better.

Thank you so much, NetGalley and the publisher, for sending me this ARC.

Thank you to Kathryn Kincaid and Netgalley for an ARC to review.

Eight years after Nathan corners his best friend Brenna in their baseball team dugout to confess his attraction to her, he's once again thrown in her path trying hard to suppress his feelings for a now-engaged woman. Little does he know that Brenna feels the same way about him. This sweet 2nd forced-proximity chance romance takes place after Nathan's mostly estranged father leaves everything he owns to the two of them in his will attempting to right the wrongs he made that ripped these once young lovers apart. Call Your Shot is a cute, quick straightforward read that brings all the sweet feels for a good HEA booster shot. Definitely looking forward to the next installment of this series.

HSP rep included.

TW: toxic parental figures, their parents having an affair/get married, emotional abuse by parents, FMC trying to gain custody of a younger sibling.

PS: This is purely about the formatting for the ARC. The grey filter that was put over the kindle copy was really problematic for me as a dyslexic reader. I prefer reading on my kindle because I can read the book on a larger screen than on my phone though the netgalley app. In the future I would urge you to be aware that not all ARC readers find reading books without accommodations possible. (Some readers with vision impairments or who might be even more severely dyslexic than I am might be using assistive technology that is not accessible through the netgalley app or that would be rendered mute with a grey filter (for example if they rely heavily on being able to adjust text/background contrast/color.

This was a sweetly written book, I truly enjoyed this book. It was a slow burn into a beautiful ending! I love the fact of the characters were like friends to enemies, then became enemies to lovers. I love the FMC, Brenna. She is so sweet, sensitive, over loving, compassionate for her family and friends. I would recommend reading this to any romance junky like myself!

As kids, Brenna and Nathan were inseparable, they were best friends, teammates and as they got older they became lovers but family drama tore them apart and now they’re strangers.

Eight years later, Brenna has uprooted her life for the past few months to help care for her seven year old sister once she learned her mom is back to her old ways leaving her life and fiancé in Chicago. Nathan is a minor league baseball player with commitment issues. The two are forced together again to discuss Nathan’s late father’s will … which leaves the two everything - Nathan’s childhood home and his fathers business but the two have to agree on everything before they can sell. Brenna and Nathan are forced to stay in the home together as they maneuver this new reality as their past is begging to be discussed.

This was a quick read for me. It reminded me of Love and Other Words and Just For the Summer with a sports twist. I really liked that they got past their previous issues and realized their love was worth it. I haven’t read anything else by her, but this was a good starting point and I’ll be keeping my eyes open for more!

4⭐️ 2🌶️

Some Tropes:
⚾️ Best Friends to Lovers
❤️ Second Chance
⚾️ First Love
❤️ Found Family

The Characters:

Brenna is a Kinesiology college student who had to put her life on hold in order to help take care of her family. She was in a relationship where feelings were dwindling and she didn’t know where her life was going to go.

Nathan is in the off season for baseball and just lost his dad. He is emotionally withdrawn, stubborn, and holding onto grudges that would burn him if he wasn’t careful.

My Opinion:

This book was a rollercoaster. The flashbacks connected really well with the “now.” I thought the flow of the book was planned very well and it helped really build the story line.

My only qualm was how quickly the ending happened. From the time Brenna’s mom made her decision to the end was abrupt and I wish that part of the story, of their lives, would’ve been given a little more substance. It was a huge build up to these decisions and I felt the ending was very deflated, but still good.

I would totally read this book again. I am obsessed with this series and I love how Kathryn tied 2 different sports and storylines together to keep the characters from the first book alive in this one.

I really hope Leo and Deandra get a book 😂🙏🏼

I really enjoyed this book!!! The writhing did start out a little hard to understand, so make sure you’re paying attention at the beginning to properly learn the characters! I really enjoyed the passion between Brenna and Nathan, great job :)
