this book was so easy read and I got into so fast. however I feel like the author could have put a bit more twists into the book and made the ending a little more different. overall I love this book so I had to give it 4 stars, would have been 5 stars if it has more twists and the ending a little different.

Sadie and Ted along with their daughters Tamara, 8, and Charley, 6, are driving in the Scottish Highlands during a heavy rain. A big storm is predicted to hit them soon. Sadie has rented a remote hunting lodge called Red Hart Lodge for several days to celebrate Christmas. His parents, and brother and her mother will be joining them later that night. So, they are puzzled when the doorbell rings and it’s a woman and a young girl. it is Alice, Ted’s ex-girlfriend as she sails past Sadie and hugs Ted. She claims to be so happy that she was invited. Sadie is shocked. Who invited her and why?

The tenseness in this book is so thick you could cut it with a knife. Some things were unclear at times which is what the author intended to make the story pan out as she planned. My favorite person is Sadie’s mother. Calm and wise. So much drama that seemed to be a bit overdone and somewhat over the top is how I would describe this book. Now, I need to read something humorous. Whew!

Not having read books by this author, I wasn’t sure what to expect. A family Christmas get away was interrupted by the arrival of the husband’s ex girlfriend and her daughter. The story was full of surprises which kept me guessing until the very end. A very good mystery with a cryptic ending. Thoroughly enjoyable.

The premise of the plot for My Husband's Ex (formerly titled Ex Girlfriend) was so promising and I was excited to dig into it when I got to it on my list. However, it fell flat for me and I am a very easy-to-please reader.

Sadie and Ted take their girls to a remote part of the Highlands to celebrate Christmas. This story is an emotional rollercoaster, filled with suspense on every page. As a mom myself, I could relate to Sadie and felt immense empathy for her as the story developed. I did have a hard time putting this one down because it was quick-paced and I wanted to find out what would happen next.

What fell short for me were the twists. They weren't actual twists but felt more like deceptions in the writing and didn't feel believable as a reader. For that, I give this book 3 stars; a book that was still enjoyable but one that I wouldn't read again.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to ARC review this book!

Brilliant read that keeps you hooked throughout.

When her husband’s ex turns up out of the blue, how did she know to come? Is she lying or her husband?

A perfect thriller for those who love a page turning suspenseful read.

Starts off like a cozy family story, but then the plot twists. No spoilers. Just when you think you know what is going on, another twist, then another. This was better than I expected! I was happily surprised and really enjoyed this book!

I love it when an author completely throws me off but it also frustrates me.
I thought I had the plot figured out and who the villain in the story was.
But when Walker revealed a big clue I thought now why did that character do that?
Turns out, I had the wrong culprit! Sometimes my detective gene gets left behind and I take the wrong path. That’s also the mark of a good author who can lead me astray, although I do love being able to predict things correctly!
Don’t go to a remote Scottish lodge for Christmas! Try an amusement park instead!

This book pulled me in and kept me invested until the end. The premise was good, so I was very interested in reading this one. It was addictive and full of suspense, and I was very entertained the whole ride. The author did a great job building suspense and setting the atmosphere. Though annoying at times, I appreciated Sadie’s inner monologue. I don’t know many people who would allow their husband’s ex to show up on a family vacation and just let them stay and wreak havoc, so that part was farfetched to me.

There were twists and turns galore. The plot and story unfolded in a way that had me engrossed in what was going to happen. Then we get to the ending, and I was thoroughly confused. On top of being rushed, it was very outlandish. There wasn’t enough preparation for that ending. It seemed that it was an afterthought, and felt extremely rushed. It could’ve been a slam dunk if there was better thought and development around the ending.

Sadie and Ted are having relationship troubles. Sadie decides to take Ted and their children away to spend the festive season in a lodge in the Scottish Highlands. With their families dropping in for Christmas Day, the rest of the holiday might give them an opportunity to find some common ground and sort out their problems. However, not long after they have arrived at Hart Lodge, Sadie answers the door to find Ted’s ex- Alice and her teenage daughter standing on the doorstep.
If Sadie thought that was bad enough, the arrival of her mother and her in-laws is followed by a violent storm which traps them all there. Intermittent power cuts all add up to the beginnings of a nightmare. A nightmare which becomes gradually worse for Sadie as certain truths are revealed and she begins to wonder whether she will ever be able to get her marriage back onto an even keel. And then Alice drops a bombshell – she is fleeing from a current boyfriend who is both abusive and violent, and he knows where they are.
There was so much going on in this book – one crisis after another, with the storm causing power cuts which added to the suspense and feeling of imminent danger. Although the plot was well thought out, working with multiple characters in a confined space was at times, confusing. As the drama reached its peak, there was an unexpected twist which turned everything on its head. I certainly didn't see it coming. I know that through the book, people weren't what they appeared to be, but this final chapter was not only surprising, but perplexing too.

I loved My Husband’s Ex. This is the kind of thriller I love, full of twists and turns, red herrings, secrets and misdirection. It was a real treat to read. My Husband’s Ex is the definition of a page turner and I couldn’t stop reading once I started because I was so engrossed. I loved the setting, a remote cabin in my home country of Scotland, the perfect place for threats to be lurking. The book was very dark at times, a good thing and exactly the kind of book I enjoy reading. I could not put this book down. I’d recommend it.

Sadie and Ted's marriage needs a sprucing up, together for over decade things just haven't been the same recently. Sadie is convinced renting a huge mansion in the middle of nowhere in the Highlands for the Christmas holiday is just what they need. Along with their two daughters the holiday house appears perfect for their little family, and they get inside just as the car runs out of gas and the raging storm starts.
Now as I'm reading this psychological thriller I'm thinking, okay this is pretty tame when is the action starting? As you read you absorb the words you're reading and have a belief in them, this is how the story will go, you're walking along minding your own business and then an anchor drops on top of you. You reel back, staggering under the weight of your assumptions and realizes, they're just that and you should never make assumptions as you read because you really never know.
Shocking twists and turns, I felt like I am teetering on the edge of a cliff, one exhale too much and I'd be over the edge!
A must read not to miss. It took my breath away!

I was given a complimentary copy of this book.

"A totally addictive Psychological thriller packed with twists" yeah I mean my head didn't know who to blame or what to think throughout the book, it was a rollacoaster from start to finish and I didn't see any of it coming to be fair.

A very easy read and believable characters, they reacted to situations like normal people would and not this fake way that sometimes crop up in book convos. Sadie's inner monologue is exactly what you'd be feeling yourself and because of that you felt her emotioms throughout and were there for the journey with her.

Very nice feel to the story and the atmosphere was definitely built up nicely, I could easily build a picture of the characters and their surrounding in my mind, I felt I was there hearing the storm outside with them. I found myself wanting to read on and find out what happened and who was to blame next, in turn I think I was angry and turned against all the characters in turn with Sadie.

Twists and turns a plenty here, maybe a bit too much towards the end but it didn't take away fron the story, didn't see that end coming but it kindof felt a tiny bit rushed to get it wrapped up and I was left with a few questions why Alice had said a few things to Sadie that didn't quite in my opinion match up to her end motives, but that was just me, it is explained at the end but I was a bit like "but would you say that though, sure there was a better way to get the message over" and also, a few scenes were never mentioned again which I feel needed adressing to not make them weird.

All in all a nicely written and decent read that didn't take to long to get through that offers plenty of wtf didn't see that coming, nor that one or that one moment

it is a right psychological thriller story, the kind that’ll have you rethinking everything. it starts off lovely – Sadie and Ted are off on a Highlands getaway to rekindle their marriage. but their romantic escape goes belly up when Ted’s ex, Alice, rocks up out of the blue with her daughter in tow. now, this is where it gets interesting. up to this point, you’d be forgiven for thinking it’s a standard love triangle drama.

but there’s more as it turns out, Ted’s a right fibber. as Sadie came to know many things that were hidden from her! but hold on, there’s more! as the story goes on, we find out Sadie has a dark secret of her own – something she did to keep Ted. this is where things take a turn for the chilling, proper edge-of-your-seat stuff.

the unreliable narrators and the claustrophobic setting make it impossible to guess what’s coming next. let’s just say, Sadie’s desperate act to keep Ted wasn’t exactly what you had in mind!

all in all, this book was a cracking read, fast-paced and addictive. the ending went a bit off the rails, but that kept things exciting! definitely not what i saw coming. if you’re after a psychological thriller with twists you won’t see coming, this is the book for you. i would highly recommend this one to you guys.

2.5 Stars ⭐️⭐️

I wanted to love this book so bad but unfortunately I found myself frustrated at most of the characters, especially Sadie. I felt extremely underwhelmed from start to finish.

I never DNF a book, I always see it through until the end to give it a fair chance as I believe you can’t rate a book if you haven’t read it all, however this book very nearly put me into a reading slump! Usually I think of every excuse to read just one more chapter of a book that I’m enjoying wheras this book made me think of excuses not to read it and it felt like a chore.

I did however enjoy the short, fast paced chapters and the unexpected unreliable narrator twist which I didn’t see coming. I felt the main plot twist at the end wasn’t believable and I found myself thinking “Really!?”

*Trigger warnings for this one are gaslighting and coercive control.

Oh boy what a thriller. This story has so many twists and turns you will keep turning pages late into the night. Talk about a bad Christmas and a crazy ex. Looking forward to more from this author.

This book literally has all of the thriller tropes you can hope for, woven perfectly into a captivating and twisty narrative. Marriage on the rocks? Check. Manipulative ex? Check. Dangerous storm, nowhere to go, secluded cabin with no cell service? Check, check, and check.

I will admit I was on the verge getting bored. Figured I had this figured out and continuously wondered what could happen next. But that's a good thing, right? I couldn't stop reading. I needed to know where this book was going...and was hoping against hope that it wasn't going to end up the way I thought it would. Trust that you will not be disappointed!

Thank you Rosie Walker, Bookouture, and Netgalley for the advanced copy!

Ex-Girlfriend written by Rosie Walker is a suspenseful thriller set in a remote lodge in the Scottish Highlands. Ted and Sadie have been having a rough time in their marriage and so they choose to go away for a special Christmas in Sadie's beloved Highlands, despite Ted hating the country. What is setting up to be a brilliant festive break is derailed when they get to the lodge and find Alice, Ted's Ex, the woman who broke his heart more than a decade ago

Sadie grits her teeth as the "mistake" is uncovered and arrangements made for Alice and her child to stay elsewhere the next day. I have to say, Ted's gusghing over Alice while Sadie gets the wine and charcuterie together is a fantastic setup describing Ted's character and his dynamic with Alice. I really, really disliked his behaviour. It's all well and good being hospitable, but equal distribution of hospitality is usually a given

The stay in the lodge becomes further derailed with the advent of a huge storm which takes the power out. Sadie, Natasha and the children are in the basement but where are Ted and Alice? Why was Alice there? What lengths will Sadie go to to save her marriage?

The twists in this storyline are fantastic and despite devouring many mysteries and thrillers, I would not have expected it at all. Firmly grounded in a plasible scenario, the suspense is well constructed and pacing effective. A brilliant book and highly recommended

Thank you to Netgalley, Bookouture and the awesome author Rosie Walker for this gripping ARC. My review is left voluntarily and all opinions are my own

This is a mix of a psychological thriller and someone’s very own personal horror story.

Imagine . . . Being isolated in the remote woodlands, during a snow storm, with no gasoline in your car, your cute and quaint Air B&B keeps losing power due to high gust of winds, and to top it all off, the family you’re waiting for is delayed in arriving due to the storm. You decide to make the best of it, and enjoy time with your husband and kids, but, suddenly. . A knock comes upon the door. When you open it, there’s a face staring back at you that makes the hair on the back of your neck prickle, your stomach churn, and you know nothing good will come of this. What is she doing here?

I love author Rosie Walkers writing style. It’s captivating and exciting. There was a semi-shocking plot twist at the end, but overall it wasn’t the plot twist that made me like the book, rather I loved the character development and the overall play out of the storyline!

I’ll definitely read more from this author!
