This book was the perfect mix of suspense and police procedural.

Emily did a great job giving enough character development to make me care, but leave me wanting to know more (leaving lots of room for activities when it comes to sequels I hope!).

Young girls in Fawn Lake are in danger. The source of that danger? That's Freya's job. When one drowned girl leads to a host of missing girls, the suspects start to pile up. I did not see this ending coming, which is exactly what you want from a book like this.

Thank you Bookouture, Emily Shiner, and Netgalley for the advanced copy!

As intriguing as the plot was when I first started reading this, I quickly found myself losing interest in the story. The idea of something like this actually happening seems too far fetched and I felt no connection to the missing girls because we got no background on them. I also found the main character to be annoying and unlikeable.

First in the series of Freya Sinclair novels. Captain Freya Sinclair has returned to her hometown and previous job just in time to notice a pattern of local little girls going missing. Her and her team are on the case to figure out what's happening to these missing girls and why.

This is my first Emily Shiner novel and I loved it. It's a great beginning to a series I will definitely continue. I enjoyed the character development of Freya and the little pieces of her past that were given throughout the book.

I look forward to reading the next in series.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I love this author but the writing style on this one just wasn't for me. The plot was great, I felt like I was watching an episode of criminal minds the entire time. However, I struggled a ton with the style of writing. (just because it wasn't for me, doesn't mean its not for you). The plot qualities were great.

I love when a first in the series, sucks me right in. And this one done exactly that.
Captain Freya has returned home after five years. Almost as soon as she gets home, the body of a child is found in a river. With the help of her new team members, the hunt is on.
I really enjoyed the characters, I thought they were believable and easy to relate to. I love how the book gives little snippets about Freya's parents' crimes and it makes you want to know everything. But a few times, I did wish that it gave a little more background about the other people involved.
This was a book that I loved and hated at the same time. I loved how well written it was, but I hated the thought that there are really people in the world that commits these atrocious acts against our children.
Many thanks to Netgalley for the chance to read and review this one, I cannot wait to read the next one.

Unfortunately this story fell pretty flat for me. I am an avid consumer of dark, mystery and thriller novels about detectives and I had high hopes for this one but left feeling pretty disappointed and underwhelmed. I was really intrigued by the FMC having serial killer parents but I think the book could have been more enjoyable had it come into more detail about that maybe with Past and Present chapters.
I enjoyed the premise of the storyline of missing and dead girls with a local detective trying to solve the case while others are suspicious of her due to her parents being serial killers. I liked the side characters, Candy, Brad & Esther. 2.5/5⭐️

This was a first read for me by this author and it didn't disappoint.
The main character Freya is a very strong character that you easily grow to love. This book has a great storylinethar kept me wanting to see what was going to happen next. A must read!
Thank you Netgalley for the chance to read this book in return for my honest review.

A run of the mill police procedural based in a small town. Feel as though editing may have let this book down a little, with a fair bit of repetitive dialogue not allowing the story or characters play out to their full potential. Thanks to Netgalley for the advanced readers copy and opportunity to review.

The premise sounded like my kind of listen and I was interested to get stuck in. It’s a very slow burn for the first 3/4’s of the listen and I found I was disinterested but it does ramp up for the last 1/4 and did grab my attention. It was interesting how the storyline came together but it was a slow slog to get there. This is the first in the Freya Sinclair series but it felt like the second as there was a lot of references to Freya’s backstory and it felt like I’d missed out on a previous read. Her backstory was never explained so I felt I was missing a huge part of the story which is important to the character that Freya is today. I found the characters likeable and could see myself becoming fond of them. It’s a well developed storyline but it’s not executed well in the pace and how the story flows. The narration felt a little stilted and over dramatic at times. Hopefully the next instalment will have a little better execution and sheds more light on Freya’s history.

3/5 🌟🌟🌟

I didn't know what to expect, but I am very impressed with this book! I was able to start and finish reading it in less than 24 hours! The story hooked me from the beginning and I just kept wanting to find out what happens next.. I just couldn't put it down! It is gripping and easy to follow. The ending was unbelievable and the twists just kept coming until the end.

The plot follows Freya Sinclair who has returned from her small town after leaving five years ago. In the beginning, you get the glimpses of what made her leave, but you'll understand more about it as the story goes. She decided to take her old job back at the Fawn Lake Police Department and her first day back was quite eventful when a young girl's body was found in the lake. As she starts her investigation, other things come up which added onto her new case. With her main task of finding the missing girls, I found that Freya is a strong willed and determined captain. She was willing to find ways in able to locate the girls when she keeps hitting roadblocks.

This was very well written and definitely will keep you guessing.. at least it did with me. This is my first Emily Shiner book and I want to read more of her writing! I'd highly recommend this to those who enjoy crime fiction and serial killer thrillers.

This series is a bit different to Emily's thriller books and I loved it for that. I do enjoy a good crime book. This is the first in the series following Captain Freya Sinclair. I really enjoyed the story and felt it was unique in style. However, there was a few times I felt there was a lack of description especially when it came to procedural moments like describing the crime scene or interviewing suspects. I enjoyed the character of Freya, she is head strong and brave and been through alot. I do look forward to hopefully finding out more about her past and her parents in the next two books. This was a great start in the series and I look forward to reading the next two books.

I love Emily Shiner’s writing so it’s a treat to be able to catch her new police procedural series right from the start.

Police Captain Freya Sinclair is a well written, likeable and relatable character. She has returned to her hometown after five years away and as the story progresses, we start to learn about the disturbing events that lead to her leaving.

Her police colleagues Candy and Brad are also great characters and I look forward to getting to know more about them in future books in this promising new series.

Just as Freya starts her new position with the local police force, a young girl’s body is found in the lake. With none reported missing, the team are on the hunt for the identity of the child, as well as her killer. Another, different girl is reported missing and then yet another girl is found in the lake.

The action doesn’t let up and this dark and disturbing story is compelling reading.

4 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, Emily Shiner and Bookouture, for an ARC in return for an honest review.

Having never read any books by this author, I wasn’t sure what to expect. From the very beginning the plot was interesting and easy to follow. The mystery surrounding the main character wasn’t completely unfolded until the very end. The storyline was great from the beginning to the end. I was completely hooked, not wanting to stop reading until I knew who the guilty person was. Not who I expected!! A very, very good book, I look forward to reading the next one.

Three Drowned Girls by Emily Shiner

This was a great book, an easy read, great characters, lots of description. The story moves at a good pace, there is always something happening, and easy to follow.

The main character is Freya, she moves back to her hometown after five years away, she comes back into her old role as Captain of the local police department. I really enjoyed following her investigation and the relationship she has with coworkers and Esther.
The book lays a good foundation for the 2nd book in this series, I'll be diving into it next.
This is the first of Emily Shiner's books that I have read, I really enjoyed her writing style.

Thanks NetGalley for the ARC of Three Drowned Girls, published by Bookouture

My first book to read by @authoremilyshiner and it didn’t disappoint. I couldn’t put it down. #ThreeDrownedGirls is book #1 in the Detective Freya Sinclair Series and it’s a real page turner. Could also be read as a standalone.
I really enjoyed this book. It’s fast paced, has brilliant twists and turns with an unexpected ending, it’s gripping and so intense. I was totally hooked right from the start.
Freya returns to her home town and is straight into a case of missing girls after a body is found in the river but nothing seems to add up.
It’s written really well. I liked the authors writing style as it’s easy to read and the story just flows well, keeping you engaged and turning the pages. The characters are all well developed and likeable. I liked Freya and Candy’s relationship, Brad too, they make a great team. I also like the background relationship Freya had with Esther, the woman her took her in as a teen. I look forward to seeing these characters grow in the next books.
If you enjoy police procedural, crime fiction and psychological thrillers then you’ll love this book. Definitely recommend.

Detective Freya Sinclair is desperate to get to the bottom of a case involving missing girls in her home town of Fawn Lake. Facing backlash from a previous investigation that went wrong, can she get the support she needs before anyone else gets murdered?

I loved Emily Shiner’s “The Wife in the Photo” and was looking forward to reading another of hers. Unfortunately, this one fell a bit short for me.
The pace was very slow and I felt disinterested at times.

There was a lot of build up surrounding what her parents did, which never really surmounted to anything and it was lacking in twists and turns.
I didn’t really warm to any of the characters and never really got behind Freya. I did like the camaraderie between her, Candy and Brad. Esther was sweet as well. I think I’d rather have read the story about Freya’s parents and how Esther came to take her in though.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for my advanced copy.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review through NetGalley. This is the first book I've read by Emily Shiner and while it was enjoyable it wasn't my favorite. I think this would be better pitched as a Netflix series to binge. There was a lot of dialogue and too many characters to keep track of, which would have been ok if the descriptions of the characters stayed consistent enough to track them. For example, one character was introduced as having a pixie cut but by chapter 43 the same character was described as having her hair in a ponytail. Otherwise, I love that the book was introduced as book 1, allowing for some patience as the main character develops and her backstory unfolds in future books. Again, I think I'd love this (5 stars) as a Netflix series more than a book!

Thanks to #NetGalley and #Bookouture for the book #ThreeDrownedGirls by #EmilyShiner. This is the first book in a new series and it is really, really good. I was drawn into this book and couldn’t stop. Freya has just returned to town after a tramatic event years ago. Her first case is a drowned girl. As she digs into this case she find more disturbing occurrences. Who is doing this to these little girls?

Very engaging book. It was very twisted in a good way and kept me wanting to read more. This plot wasn't something I've read before and the book was very well written. I can't wait to read more from this author and the series.
