Such a cute story! There's a valuable lesson to be learned here too - sometimes we need a little help from our friends. Hedgehog thought he could build his new pumpkin home all by himself, but he quickly learned that sometimes you have to lean on friends instead of trying to do it alone. The illustrations in this book are very detailed and beautiful. I know my littlest patrons would love this book during our storytime hour. Recommended!

A Bold Pumpkin Plan is an adorable story of a little hedgehog who needs to get a a pumpkin back to where he lives so he can build a special home for himself. At first, Hedgehog is reluctant to ask for help because he does not know how, or want to talk to anybody, but with every challenge they face, he finds it easier and easier to ask for help along the way! By the time Hedgehog achieves his goal, he misses all the friends he made along the way, and no longer wants to always be by himself!

This story was a great lesson for kids in self-confidence and not being afraid to ask for help. Hedgehog's feelings of timidness and being scared to talk to other forest creatures is so relatable for kids who may be afraid to do the same. Being brave to ask for help and putting yourself out there can sometimes result in making friends, just like Hedgehog!

Thank you to NetGalley and Capstone for this Advanced Reader Copy. The story by Katy Hudson and the accompanying illustrations were just beautiful, and I look forward to seeing this book in my library collection! A great selection for storytime this fall!

A Bold Pumpkin Plan follows a little introverted hedgehog as he overcomes obstacles with the help of other forest animals in his attempt to bring his new house home.
Some themes explored in the story were friendship, offering and seeking help from others, and working together. I thought it was presented in an easy to understand manner for children that are of young school age.
I really loved the illustrations and imagery in the story. The colours were bright and bold.
A Bold Pumpkin Plan would be the perfect book to gift a young child this Fall season.

I can relate to hedgehog. He’s an introvert. Every time someone spoke to him, he said “more talking”. This story will bring a smile to your face and laughter to your heart. . Completely relatable for any shy or introverted child. The characters were memorable and charismatic. Hedgehog realizes that while he still likes his alone time, special friends are wonderful. The illustrations were bright, adorable and cheery. I was blessed with a free ARC, and I’m voluntarily leaving a review. Highly recommend. I would buy for a permanent home library.

I read this ahead of publication, and it's a very well illustrated children's book. I love the images, they're vivid and bright, super engaging.

Overall, it's a very cute story that follows an ambitious hedgehog, determined to build himself a house out of a pumpkin. The opening pages with his notes and building plans is super fun. However, I felt a little let down once I got into the rest of the book. The exciting plans that we start with, are semi irrelevant as you progress, and the journey becomes more one of the hedgehog's adventurous day getting his new pumpkin back to his home base to start work.

What I like about this change is that we see an anxious & shy Hedgehog forced to overcome his fears of stepping out and engaging with new friends & accepting help, when he's too scared to ask for it, but knows he needs it. As the story progresses, we see him go from dreading the help to feeling empowered and confident to ask for the help before it's offered.

The book does a good job at illustrating that it's okay to need help, accept help and to ask for help.

What I wish it had more of, would be Hedgehog accepting that same help to build his house – not just to get his pumpkin home. It would be a nice finishing touch to see Hedgehog accept help not only with the things he's insecure in and doesn't know a lot about, but also in the areas that he feels confident and empowered in. I also think this would help wrap the ending up and feel less abrupt, currently it feels like a hard transition happens between getting the pumpkin home, then everyone leaves and now once the house is finished they're all there and that's the end. It's like the last step and the final transitional piece the story feels like it needs to me. This is what made it 4/5 starts for me vs. 5/5 stars.

Overall though, it's a really cute children's book and I enjoyed it's story and overall message.

What a sweet cute fall book! I cannot wait to get a physical copy to give to my daughter! Hedgehog wants to build a new house out of a pumpkin. Hedgehog gets the perfect big pumpkin but there’s a problem, getting it home. With the help of new friends, this timid Hedgehog has an adventure to get the pumpkin back home. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I would 100% recommend this book!

This one is for the introverts! Hedgehog is a timid little guy who is feeling bored of building the same home year after year, so he plans to build a house from a pumpkin. Along the way he makes new friends who help him overcome obstacles.

The illustrations are gorgeous and the story is cozy and sweet.

Follow a timid little hedgehog who overcomes their fears to make friends, build confidence and overcome obstacles.

Found this book to be endearing and it has already become a firm favourite in our house. Although there is a giant pumpkin on the front this could be read at anytime of year.

The illustrations are well thought out and fantastically drawn.

We road tripped to Florida for spring break and I was so happy I had been approved for sixteen new children’s books coming out this year. It helped so much to break up some time with stories! The kids loved them and had so much fun picking out a book from my netgalley app to read. We didn’t read a single book we didn’t like! Tuckers favorite was Elmo’s new book, Kinley loved the fairy godmother book, Dawsyn loved the basketball one, and Briggs adored the animal book. I highly suggest adding all of these to your summer library reading lists for kids. I love children’s books, and these were full of beautiful illustrations, stories, and allowed us to have some great conversations after them. Come along with Mr. Hedgehog as he finds just the perfect pumpkin. Now he just needs help getting it back to where he wants to build his new bold home. I totally enjoyed this special little story, and I think it would be a delightful "again" for preschoolers and younger elementary. When I read a picture book or easy-text-and-pictures for young children, I consider what lessons the story might be imparting. On several levels, THE BOLD PUMPKIN PLAN delivers. Not only are the illustrations appealing; the story enphasizes perseverance, accepting teamwork, friendship, and gratitude. Also, it teaches that divergent personalities are equally valid, and that a shy, retiring individual can also enjoy and benefit from quality time spent with others as well as basking in Solitude.

This was a cozy and cute story about a Hedgehog who is very shy. He has a big plan to build himself a new home out of a pumpkin. Hedgehog thinks he do it alone, but as he enacts his plan things start to go wrong. He meets some helpful new friends who teach him that while it’s okay to be shy and timid it’s also nice to meet new friends and ask for help. Perfect for story time during those cozy fall months.

This was absolutely adorable. The maze portion, you could have your child find the proper route out. Of course the Hedgehog needed help navigating the various terrains, and it was awesome to see that hedgehog didnt lose hope. He accepted the help, made new friends, and succeeded at his task.
This is a cute way to demonstrate to kids that it's ok to ask for help, because you can't know everything.
Beautiful artwork too.

My son totally loved this book! Such a cute storyline and illustration is on point. It's about a shy little hedgehog who is stepping out of his comfort zone who build new friends along the way. It is such a great children book and I definitely recommend it!

I was a little confused upon finishing this book, but after some extra thought, I actually really liked this book.
I will start by saying I absolutely loved the art throughout the entire book. The colors were beautiful and the characters were adorable. There was a lot of repetition, and while it did start to get a little old at a point, I thought that the plot had enough mystery to balance everything out. For example, I did not expect the pumpkin to fall into the river, and that helped me stay engaged.
Basically, this book is about an introverted hedgehog with social anxiety. While making his new home, he interacts with other people and finds that, while he still values his time by himself, hanging out with friends is great, too. While this message was a bit hard to understand, I think that, in a roundabout way, kids will read this book and know that interacting with new people doesn't always have to be scary, and it is a great way to make new friends. This will ultimately assist kids in getting past social anxiety that they might have.
