Hedgehog is ready for a change. After building the same house year after year, he’s planning something new this year.
“Something brighter. Something bolder.”
Like many introverts, Hedgehog’s imagination is big and so is his attention to detail. He figures out the perfect plan to make his perfect home a reality, but the best laid plans of mice and men (and hedgehogs) often go awry.
Opening yourself up to change in one area of your life often generates change in others. It isn’t long before Hedgehog has the opportunity to overcome obstacles.
Although he probably wants to roll up into a ball and hide, Hedgehog chooses to be courageous, being clear about what his needs are and accepting help from others.
Along the way, Hedgehog and I gain much needed confidence and learn that while alone time is so very important for introverts like us, we also need others in our life.
I love Katy Hudson’s books. She’s one of my favourite illustrators, bringing the struggles and triumphs of the most adorable animals to life. Their emotions are clearly portrayed and they’re always so relatable. Having read almost all of Katy’s previous books, I was delighted to find a few familiar faces amongst the pages.
The words are just as rewarding as the illustrations. I see myself in so many of Katy’s characters so her books are always a good reminder of lessons I’ve learned along the way.
Like the stories that preceded it, I haven’t found the reread that’s one too many. I don’t think I will ever tire of this book.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Capstone Editions, an imprint of Capstone, for the opportunity to read this picture book.

What a sweet & delightful book! I was given an advanced copy by NetGalley and Capstone Publishing, and I will definitely be reading this in my Pre-K classroom and adding a hard copy to my library. I love that Mouse stays true to himself throughout the story & learns the joy of balancing friendship with his own quiet time. I know all of my students will love this book, especially the shy ones.

An absolutely delightful [and fantastically illustrated] book about how it is totally okay to be alone and need/enjoy that alone, quiet time, BUT it is also lovely to have help when one needs it and then to share time with those very people who know when and how to help us introverted people.
Hedgehog is a lovely, shy, quiet character and many littles will relate to him and his decision/dream to step outside his own box [a PUMPKIN house! How glorious!!] and his initial hesitation to have conversations ["more talking" (said with a deep sigh) is one of the best lines ever from a book character] but how glad he is when he does choose both the conversations and the help. It is just a really lovely book that will resonate with so many, adults and littles alike.
Thank you to NetGalley, Katy Hudson, and Capstone for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

If it was just about drawings I would give 5 stars directly; those are so cute, I just love staring at them.
About the plot, we follow an hedgehog who is shy, introverted and has social anxiety... basically we're the same. Throughout the book he has to interact with other characters and it ends realizing the importance of friends. And that's definitely true; I know, friends are the greatest thing in life but seeing Hedgehog facing all those strangers made me feel an unease like I was there. That's not a bad thing, it's good I could feel myself so into the story, anyway I was constantly feeling sorry for him and I was like "Come on life, leave us alone! Give us a second to breath...".
In the end, I liked this story and I feel is a good reading experience for all those out there living with social anxiety.

Shy little hedgehog decides to bring a large pumpkin to his space to make into his new home. But each step along the way he runs into a problem and must learn to be very brave and ask for help. He makes new friends and learns that it is a good thing to have friends over sometimes. Wonderful book!
The illustrations by renowned illustrator/writer Katy Hudson are fun, intricate, brilliantly colored, and delightful.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to anyone aged 4-104, but especially to a school, church library, or your local public library!
I requested and received a free temporary uncorrected proof EARC on Adobe Digital Editions from Capstone | Capstone Editions via NetGalley. Thank you!

A Bold Pumpkin Plan by Katy Hudson grabs you with the artwork first. It is beautifully drawn and designed. The maze drawings were some of my favourites. The writing is great, as an introvert, I loved that Hedgehog is shy and accepts help when it is offered. I also love that by the end hedgehog is still shy, but enjoys hanging with his friends none the less. Cannot wait to add this to my children's book collection.
I received an electronic ARC of this book. All opinions are 100% my own.

Love that this validated the introvert feels, while simultaneously showing the value of friendship, teamwork and utilizing each friend's unique talents!

I loved the artwork in this book! Bold colors and the fall season are wonderful! Young readers will love this book.
I appreciate the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book was so incredibly sweet. First, for an extrovert turned introvert after Covid, I can totally appreciate this and it's sentiment! This book gives children a feeling of acceptance and inclusion for being an introvert but also encourages getting help, learning from others, and trying to enjoy people's companies as much as able. For a lot of this book, I kept thinking, 'teamwork makes the dream work'. I think the characters were darling and the story was wonderful. The artwork was beautiful, specifically the colors chosen.

This adorable children’s book send a great message on friendship, hard work, and helping those in need.
The illustrations are beautiful and captivating. I read this to my 6 year old son and 5 year old niece and they loved it!

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
A Bold Pumpkin Plan is an absolutely adorable illustrated children's book about a shy little Hedgehog who has to ask for help from others to get his new pumpkin house home. Hedgehog is fed up of the same scene year after year when they're hibernating, so he finds a pumpkin that would make a fantastic change but struggled getting it home alone. He is very shy, so asking others for help is very hard, but he uses courage to ask and as a group all the little animals get the job done together and Hedgehog makes new friends in the process. I loved how the book ended, showing that it's both fine and normal as an introvert to want to spend time alone as well as occasionally with others. The illustrations are just adorable and melted my heart.

This book was overfilling with adorable illustrations! The story of friendship and working together weaved itself through the entire story. This is a book that both kids and adults alike will love! This book will definitely be in my classroom library and as a read aloud at the beginning of the year in.

An adorable story about a hedgehog building a new home and meeting new friends! This book is more picture based and the illustrations are lovely and the overall story is still fun and cute.

Super cute art and story! I loved it and see it as a good book for children. You need to sell stuffed animals with it.

This adorable animal book set in the Fall follows a shy Hedgehog in search of a new house, and he knows the perfect one - a pumpkin! The only trouble is that the pumpkin patch is rather far away, and there are many obstacles between it and the spot where he wants to build his home. Along the way, Hedgehog learns to accept help from various other forest friends - Mouse, Racoon, Frog, and Owl. Together, they work to get Hedgehog’s new house to the perfect spot. I really adored the illustrations in the book as well as the journey Hedgehog took to not only get a house but also gained a family of friends, thus making a real home. This is a perfect edition to libraries looking for Autumn stories.

I adore Katy Hudson's books and her newest, "A Bold Pumpkin Plan" is no exception! I loved the messages of the power of friendship and that it's okay to need and accept help. Quieter, more introverted children (or adults!) will defintley relate to this story. The illustrations are vibrant and adorable, as usual. I buy my children a book each fall/Halloween and I already know that this one will be what I choose this year. Couldn't love it more!

A heartwarming and sweet book to read with a child on a chilly autumn day.
The element of friendship and asking for help when you need it was displayed in an understandable way for a small kid.
I also really enjoyed the colouring and the attention to detail in the drawings, which you can point out when reading it with your little one to make it more of an interactive experience.

Such an adorable children's book!
Hedgehog wasnt to build a house out of a pumpkin and knows just the right one, but the pumpkin patch is far away from the secluded spot he wants to place his home. He has a plan. Along the way Hedgehog meets and gets help from all sorts of other woodlan creatures, a mouse, frog, racoon and realizes that he really enjoys his new friends.
The Fall colors throughout this book are lovely and bright and the end papers are covered in Hedgehog's plan of action to get his pumpkin home AND THEY ARE TOO CUTE. I enjoyed the overall message of 'asking for help is ok and maybe you make a few friends along the way'. This was such a cute read. I liked the message and the critters were all nice and helpful. I appreciated that Hedgehog learned that he likes friends and doesn't want to be alone.
If you are looking for a Fall themed read that includes a pumpkin and not about Halloween. This would be a great one to add to your library.

Cute and adorable story about cute little animals going through a journey and conquering problem together. My 5 year old loved it, it is perfect for fall.

Quiet and introverted hedgehog likes their alone time. They decide to build a pumpkin house but meet many obstacles along the way as they try to bring the pumpkin along.
Shy hedgehog has to meet and talk to new friends and ask for help. It’s a great lesson for quiet and shy kids! In the end, hedgehog is still the same as they were, enjoying quiet and alone time but they realize they love their new friends too!
