Just finished an arc ebook,The Wilds by Sarah Pearse. It’s to be published by Penguin/Viking Group July 16,2024. Thank you NetGallery for the opportunity to read this mystery novel. I found the two time lines between Davon 2018 and a national park in Portugal 2021 sometimes a bit over the top. It was a lengthy book and not all that interesting overall. Two couples,a missing woman in Portugal, she needs to be found by the woman who’s a police officer that’s the other couples’ brother. Not that confusing but at times I felt not caring about the outcome. I love reading mysteries, mainly but this one not so much.

The Wilds - Sarah Pearse

📖 This mystery takes Detective Elin Warner and her brother on an adventure in the Portuguese wilderness. We also get to meet Kier, a character who has a different timeline in the book initially, a few years before Elin and Issac go on their vacation. Throughout our story we realize that Kier has gone missing and that Issac is friends with Kier’s brother - who has asked Issac, and in turn Elin, to search for clues about Kier while they are in the national park where she was last seen. Will they find out what happened to Kier, or will their own pasts get in the way?

📚 I loved this book! Sarah Pearse is a mastermind when it comes to connecting events, people, and locations in a way that is believable. If you’ve read The Sanatorium and The Retreat you will be happy to know that Elin’s stalker/creeper is revealed and you will not be disappointed! Sarah has crafted a great mystery and the twists are perfectly timed and completely plausible. She has also painted a gorgeous and atmospheric setting that was fun to picture.

🌟 If you enjoy mysteries that are a bit chilling then you want to pre-order this book, or check it out once it has been published on July 16th! It is a must read for Sarah Pearse fans, you’ve gotta find out how Elin’s storyline is wrapped up!

I want to thank Sarah Pearse and NetGalley for providing me with the Advanced Reader copy of this novel! It’s always an honor to review a book before it is published.

The Wilds takes place in two time periods and is told by two different women. Usually I am not a fan of this style of storytelling but Pearse puts it together so I didn't want either part to end.

The setting is in a national forest in Portugal and the descriptions are wonderful and put me right there. The characters become more flushed out as the story progresses.
The book takes many twists and turns - none of which I saw coming.

I loved this book

I loved the third installment in the Elin Warner series. This one was spooky and there was a sense of dread hanging over the whole book. The two locations were also excellent because they really did not feel safe. I enjoyed this one.

THE WILDS by Sarah Pearse is the third book in the detective Elin Warner series. She goes to Portugal with her brother Isaac to help look for Kier Templer, a young woman who has gone missing. The search leads them to the National Park, and a small camp of interesting individuals. The book is told from alternating perspectives, Elin and Kier's. I love Sarah's writing style - descriptive, fast-paced, and extremely well-thought-out plot points. Highly recommend!!
