i really liked the concept of this book. and it was a sweet story, but for me it felt a little bit like a filler, to stretch out the series. thank you to netgalley for letting me read this e arc in exchange for an honest opinion

I was really trying to enjoy this one but I just couldn't. I love history and a good romance, but the romance just wasn't vibing with me. I liked the concept a lot, but overall just not my favorite thing I've read.

This is the 3rd book in the Army Girl's series.In this book we learn about Ruth Cox and Sam Johnson who she meets .Sam thinks that it's love at first sight but Ruth is not as sure.Fenella he's done it again as l loved it .Thank you to Netgalley and Boldwood.

This is a gentle, domestic novel about the macinations of the war effort behind the scenes and the love story between Ruth, a Bombardier, and Sam, a Sergeant. When Sam rescues Ruth from some nasty men on a train, they feel an immediate attraction, but Sam’s upbringing and education is not as good as Ruth’s, a worry for them. We follow their adventures as they develop their respective careers and their romance blossoms. They both have to deal with difficult decisions, such as dealing with Arthur, who shouldn’t be in the Army because of his gambling addiction and an officer’s girlfriend who almost runs Sam over. There are quite a few nasty, grumpy people in this book!There are also a lot of trains. Both Sam and Ruth seem to be on trains a lot and meeting up in various places.I didn’t like this as much as the other books in the series, but it was still very enjoyable.I received this free ebook from NetGalley in return for an honest revie

This is book 3 in the Army Girls series but it is possible to read as a standalone but I do recommend reading the whole series as it is great.

I love WW2 historical fiction and this is a new take on that giving the lives and training of literally the girls behind the guns - a part of women's roles in WW2 that are rarely recognised.

This centres around Ruth and her further training after the kinetheodolite. This involves a train journey where she is helped by Sam who becomes a very large part of her life. This is in spite of differences in their upbringings - both in love and opportunity.

It is well researched and well written and an absolute delight to read. I really hope that there may be more instalments from the Gunner Girls.
As with many books of this genre there are characters to love and those to dislike as well as a smattering of misunderstanding and love and romance.

Army Girls Behind the Guns by Fenella J Miller is a continuation of the story she’s been writing about several young women who enlisted during WWII, England. Ruth Cox was sorry to leave her friend, Grace, with whom she’d trained, but it was time for her to go for additional training and begin her career. On the train she is accosted by a young soldier but rescued by another. She did dislocate her shoulder and hit her head in the mayhem so he helped her with her luggage after he found a doctor on the train. Things progressed from there, through war and misunderstandings. It is a story about the ramifications of doing the right thing, both good and bad.

Ruth was independent, she’d been raised that way, and having a man try to protect her was above and beyond. She found it helpful, though, and accepted help gratefully. She was also learning how to command other young women in a military situation. Watching her growth was fun. Sam Johnson was on track for promotion, as well, and as handsome as a movie star, but a nice, guy: honorable, strong, and brave. For him it was love at first sight. For her it took longer. There were ups and downs for this couple but somehow they managed to stay strong. They were both terrific characters, well-written and interesting. There was no real plot, but a series of hurdles. It was more a slice-of-life novel with people appearing, leaving, and reappearing. Much like real life. It is a fun read and I can’t wait for the next one. Thanks, Ms Miller, for a terrific series!

Third in this series ,tho it works as a standalone. We follow Lance Corporal Ruth as she moved to a new barracks as a bombadeer. Heartwarming historical drama.

Behind the guns is the third book in this series. This book tells Ruth’s story and how she meets Sam. These books are great as Fenella writes in a way that draws you in so you really get involved in the characters lives during this difficult time. If you like war time sagas I highly recommend these books they can all be read as standalone books but I’m sure you would enjoy the whole series more.

Another great book in the Army Girl series, this time telling the story of Ruth, and her life as an army girl. Although this a series (which are all great) they can be read as a stand alone book as it’s easy to follow the characters. Eagerly awaiting the next instalment of the series.

Another great addition to the Army Girls series!

While this book is part of a series, it can easily be read as a standalone. There are infrequent mentions of prior characters, but as background, nothing more.

This book centers on Ruth, a feisty woman who continues to work her way through various Army positions and is now a bombadier. This rank puts her above a lot of fellow servicemen and women, and it is during one such encounter she meets Sam. The rest of the story takes place during their relationship and their time in service, as well as some unexpected adventures.

I enjoyed this book, it is well written and moves along quickly, but that doesn’t mean you don’t get invested in the characters. I can’t wait to see what is next for Ruth and Sam!

In Behind the Guns we follow the story of Ruth as she meets Sam and sparks fly. Once again Fenella has weaved a tale of many emotions with facts from the era woven through to make a page turning plot. I enjoy learning little bits and pieces that I didn't know of the era. I feel that this book focuses more on the relationships of the characters rather than the war making it more light hearted. I think Sam is my favourite character of the series so far because he is so incredibly down to earth and such a gentleman. I enjoyed reading this character driven novel and looking forward to the next.

I was really looking forward to reading the third instalment of Army Girls, Behind the Guns, and it didn’t disappoint. I would recommend reading the books in order, following the ATS girls as they build friendships and find love. Behind the Guns is filled with courage, humour, kinship, independence and personal growth. A light hearted read during a time of war. I can’t wait to read the next instalment.

Another great read from Fenella Miller in book 3 of the Army Girls series. The focus this time was centred around Lance Corporal Ruth Cox who is moving on to further her army career. On her way to her new barracks she meets film star handsome Sargent Sam Johnson. There is an instant attraction but with the war raging on can their new fledged relationship develop? Like the previous books in the series this has plenty of drama, some fantastic characters, great historical references and knowledge as well as the dynamics of relationships, good and bad. That stunning cover grabbed me, and the dramatic WWII historical romance between Ruth, a British gunner, and Sam, a handsome sergeant, kept me turning the pages. Will their budding relationship survive the tragedies of war? Part of the compelling Army Girls series, but can be easily read as a standalone. Recommended!

Oh! My! Goodness!!! This story is overflowing with drama in a very good way. There was always something going on. I was expecting something to be happening with each turn of the page and the author did not disappoint.

Ruth is always up for an adventure. She boards a train to next assignment retraining to on a mixed artillery site as a range finder. The military personnel are packed in like sardines and yet she meets a man, Sergeant Sam Johnson. Life gets very interesting from the moment the train starts.

The characters are confronted with many challenges. It was quite thrilling to read and the unexpected that occurred left me stunned. I was never bored. But other emotions were experienced. Sam and Ruth are put in various awkward situations together and separate.

I found myself irritated with some of the characters. I had hoped they would get what they deserved. People behind the scenes seemed to be pulling the strings for Ruth and Sam. It was like the world or those in power were against them or wanting to get rid of them in order to protect themselves.

If you like a romance that has a lot of bumps a long the way you; will want to grab this story. Sam and Ruth definitely find themselves in a lot of situations. I can't stop thinking about what could happen in the future. I hope there is another so that I can find out what happens to many of the characters.

Another great instalment of the Army girls this one concentrates on Lance Coperal Ruth Cox. She has signed up to further retain as a gunner girl.
I’m her way to her new posting she meets a handsome sergeant Sam Johnson, they bond moving cows that have stopped the train then Sam again helps her when she is assaulted by some soldiers.
They fall into an easy relationship and adventures, but can they stay in love with so many new postings and things thrown their way to derail them.
Can’t sit for another adventure with the army girls.

What a gorgeous read, loved it and very descriptive of the place and era. You can visualise being there and working with them. The characters are alive and you feel you know them, well worth getting to know them.

Fenella J Miller is definitely one of my favourite authors when it comes to books set during wartime. Immediately I find myself engrossed in the story, and in most instances don't want to put the book down until I have finished it. That is exactly what happened with Army Girls: Behind the Guns. Unfortunately, I was ill and couldn't read it as quickly as I wanted to, but I did my best!

This book is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone, but what I love is that characters from the previous book are mentioned and brought into this current book too. So, if like me, you have read the previous book you will enjoy an update on characters from before.

One of the things I enjoy most about this author's books, this one of course included, is that she has the perfect balance of light and dark moments. Just when things start to get upsetting, something happens to bring some light relief, maybe some romance, maybe just something silly. But it makes the books a pleasure to read. I often find that if a book is described as heartbreaking I don't want to read it. But I know with this author I might have a broken heart but I will always end up smiling at the end of the story!

I loved this book, this is Ruth's story. It is obvious that the author put much research into it and I am sure that I not only had a wonderful romance story to enjoy, but I learned much about the role women played during the war. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I am very much looking forward to the next one in the series.

I loved this! Fenella writes so well about World War 2 and it is a joy to read each and every book. This time, the story mainly follows Ruth and her adventures (or misadventures in some instances!). I can't wait to read the next in the series.

Ruth is on her way to a new posting when she collides with Sam. Although she’s attracted to him, she wants to continue with her training and do her duty.

Will she ignore the feelings she has?

On her arrival, Ruth and Jill become friends, she has a boyfriend named Arthur. When Ruth is introduced to him, she realises that there’s more to him than she first thought.

The story has a lot happening, that you find it hard to put the book down.

I highly recommend this book.
