Holy cow! Darby Kane does it again! Another twisted thriller that hooked me early on and just never let go. Fabulous characters, some I loved and some I loved to hate. I was trying to talk sense into the characters and considered tossing my kindle across the room. Secrets, lies and family ties at its best!
Thank you NetGalley, Darby Kane and The William Morrow Team for the opportunity to read and review this cracker of a book.

Very convoluted story line. It was shocking and a thriller. Keep my attention throughout the entire book. Felt a little too twisted and convoluted to be realistic.

Oh this was an interesting look at dysfunction and how it follows you your whole life. Really loved all of Darby Kane's books and this one is just as good!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC .

This one sucked me in and held me captive from the very first page.
I loved (and hated) each well developed character accordingly.

The writing was engaging. The story, captivating. This author will be added to my “to read” list.

Do yourself a favor; read this book!

Many thanks to Netgalley and Harper Collins for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book started out really great, and was difficult to put down. Towards the last third when twists were being revealed is when it slowed down for me. As another reviewer said it felt like just one conversation after another, that all seemed to take place in the house. It started to lose it's interest for me, and the ending didn't make things better.

What the Wife Knew is a twisty thriller full of unlikeable characters and short chapters. I enjoyed the book overall but disliked one of the twists.

I received an ARC from William Morrow | William Morrow Paperbacks via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks to NetGalley and William Morrow Books for this advance reader’s copy, in exchange for an honest review. “What the Wife Knew” has an expected publication date of December 10, 2024.

Dr. Richmond Dougherty, a renowned pediatric surgeon and national hero, is dead. That much we know from the opening pages. But how did he die? Was it an accident, or murder? And who was the killer if he was murdered?
Those questions and more abound in the soon-to-be-released mystery-thriller “What the Wife Knew” by Darby Kane. The twists and turns are as dizzying as a winding country road and will keep you guessing while you turn the pages at a rapid clip.
Yes, Dougherty is dead. But it seems this supposed national hero who survived a family tragedy had more enemies than friends. That starts with his second wife, Addison, a much younger woman who he’d been married to for only ninety-seven days. Seems she was stalking him for years before he suddenly divorced his first wife, Kathryn.
And Kathryn, despite putting on a great show of tears at the funeral, is more concerned with her greatly reduced financial status now that there’s a second Mrs. Dougherty in the picture.
Then there’s Thomas, Dougherty’s partner, who it seems has been covering for Dougherty for years. Seems the renowned pediatric surgeon was more concerned about maintaining his image than practicing medicine.
And let’s not forget Addison’s mother who I guarantee you will not need more than a few scant pages to despise. She’s nasty, conniving, and one of the more narcissistic, self-centered characters I’ve ever come across.
Little by little, Kane peels back the layers to this domestic drama. But each time she does it seems there are more layers buried beneath. Dougherty’s legacy is monumental, so it’s no small chore unraveling what has taken decades to assemble.
But then there’s Elias, Dougherty’s (and now Addison’s) attorney, who is the calm amid all the chaos. Someone, after all, has to counter-balance all the craziness.
The narrative is written first-person in Addison’s voice for about the first half of the book, then periodically alternates to Dougherty’s voice as we learn more about his, Kathryn’s and even Addison’s early life – all of which sheds great light on the multi-layered mystery.
“What the Wife Knew” is a fun read that at times may have prompted you to question, “Which wife?” But you’ll have to get to the final pages before that and many other questions can be answered.
Five full stars for this very entertaining novel.

This book was WILD. I was invested from the first page. I love thrillers and any type of medical setting or story/writing. This book did not disappoint. Kane did an excellent job keeping me engaged till the very last page.

Thank you to both the author and publisher for this early galley. This book was both a breeze and a delight to read. I found myself constantly changing my mind about who the killer was….i was wrong in the end! This book contained many twists and kept me on the edge of my seat reading as fast as I could.

I was given this book by net galley for an honest review-

Addison, the second Mrs. Dougherty had plans to marry him and ruin him with a shocking secret from his past.
What a page turner!

ARC Shoutout! 📖

A book full of family drama and revenge? Sign me up 🙋🏼‍♀️. Richmond is a pediatric surgeon, famous not only because of his expertise in the medical field, but also because when he was a teenager his actions saved many lives, leading him to be proclaimed a hero. Richmond seems to have it all… beautiful home, wife and kids, career… and then he randomly seems tl throws it all away to quickly marry our sassy main character, Addison. But here’s the catch… from the beginning, we know that Addison HATES him. So why are they married? When Richmond winds up dead just under 100 days after their marriage, the questions really start to pile up.

This was a highly anticipated read of 2024 for me, so I was beyond excited when @netgalley sent me a copy to review! This latest book by @hkdimon comes out in December!

What the Wife Knew by Darby Kane is a fast paced thriller set in New York, with flip flopping time lines from present to past, up to twenty seven years ago. There are the “Her” (Addison) and “His” (Richmond) point of views which keep it interesting and dole out necessary information little by little.
Addison Dougherty, the young second wife of the late Richmond Dougherty is introduced at the start at her husband’s funeral. Addison is hated in her community for being a gold digging home wrecker and now suspected of murdering her husband for the money. They were married less than a hundred days. She seemed to come out of nowhere. Who is she? Is she Richmond’s killer? If not, then who? What are the secrets she holds?
Several other characters are highlighted in the story. Kathryn is the first wife, a nasty piece of work who wants to make Addison pay for destroying her happy perfect life; Elias is the family attorney who has taken Addison as a client after Richmond’s death and inexplicably seems to be in her corner; Wyatt and Portia are first marriage kids, who sadly are put in the middle of all this wreckage; and Lizzy, Addison’s mom, a woman who was never any kind of mother and becomes a main player in the secrets of the past. The one issue readers may have is that none of the characters are very likable so it is difficult to root for a hero. Elias may be the best of the bunch, but his motives are never really explained nor understood. The answers in this thriller are a bit predictable, though there are a few surprises that may work for some readers. Overall, the plot has twists and turns typical of this genre that makes it a fun quick read.
Thanks to NetGalley and William Morrow for my ARC.

An interesting protagonist who definitely evolved over the story as we learn more about her. Plenty of twists, fast paced and fun.

What a wild ride! The twists didn't stop until the last chapter was finished and I loved every minute! I enjoyed the different perspectives and the different timeliness. I kinda wish we could have heard Elias, Wyatt, or Portia's perspectives but it really was fine the way it was written. I despised Katherine and Lizzy but I'm sure that was intentional. Oh and Richmond can kick rocks! I loved Addison and I was very pleased with the way the book ended. If you like a good twisty murder mystery, I highly recommend this book. I need to check out the author's other books because this was my first by her but it will not be my last!

3.5 ⭐️ decent book. A lot of twists but I saw all the twists coming. Kinda a weird concept. Medium pace. Short chapters. And a few chapters from his pov. Fairly quick read. Wanted to know who did it.

There are a lot of rough trigger warnings to this one, more so than a normal thriller. School shooting. Manipulative toxic parent child relationships (a lot of them).

What the Wife Knew by Darby Kane is a page turner for sure. This book grabbed me immediately and had my attention until the end. It was quick paced, with some great twist, especially at the end. I recommend.

This was a totally twisty thriller that I just couldn’t put down!!! After not really enjoying Darby’s last book, I was a little hesitant going into this one. Bit wow, did she blow this one out of the water. A different kind of domestic thriller from what I’m used to. Unlikeable characters and betrayal and murder. It was just so good. I’ll be recommending it to everyone when I comes out.

One of the worst reads I’ve ever agreed to read and review. Despicable characters, take your pick who is the worst? Actually, don't bother, then you will have to actually waste your time and read this book! The plot, is not a mystery, but a compilation of absurd twists and turns, none fascinating nor intriguing. The only reason I slogged through to the end is because I agreed to read and review it. Thank you NetGalley and William Morrow for sending this book for review. All opinions are my own. #WhatTheWifeKnew, #NetGalley, #WilliamMorrow.

Five stars, no hesitation. What the Wife Knew was a twist and turn on every page. HIGHLY recommend and will purchase for libraries.

Told in alternating timeline, we follow Addison as she tries to find who beat her to the punch of killing her husband. The twists, the drama, the suspense, I just ate it all up!

Oh Addison. I don’t even know how to describe her because she doesn’t fit in a box. All I know is that I absolutely loved her! Her inner dialogue had me chuckling. And as we kept peeling through her layers, I found myself loving her more and more. She was such a fun, intriguing character.

I’m left a little speechless on what to say for this review. I want to rave about how masterful the twists were while also being mindful of spoilers so let’s just end it with this. If you’re a fan of domestic thrillers then preorder this beauty now!

This is my third by Darby Kane and every times she proves why she’s an auto buy for me. When I see her name on the cover I know I’m in for a ride!
