Okay so the political relevancy of this book is crazily paralleling the real world and I’m obsessed. The snippet I was given was a perfect amount of re-introduction to the world I grew to love in the first book, while scratching the surface of the conflict we’ll be covering in this one. As it’s only the first 70 pages, there wasn’t too much unexpected action or plot twisting in this excerpt which makes sense. I can’t wait to see Arthur & Linus’ relationship with each other, their family, and the world evolve throughout the story once it releases in September.

Thank you Netgalley for an e-ARC of the first four chapters of my most anticipated fall release, Somewhere Beyond the Sea by TJ Klune!

We have returned to the House in the Cerulean Sea where Arthur is preparing to fight for his home and family alongside Linus by making a public appearance and sharing his story with others that may have already developed their own versions of his story. It's time to throw stones in the water and make ripples.

If you love stories of found family, inspiration, equality for all, magical happenings, delightful blobs that ink, just to name a few, you will not want to miss this!

The story picks up right where it left off and draws you back in in those first four chapters. My only complaint is that it was only 4 chapters and I have to wait for September to read the rest. 😭

I was so excited for this book and the sample did not disappoint. TJ Klune has created a world that is lush and beautiful with characters that I would fight for. I cannot wait to read the rest of this when it publishes!

The tease was not enough!! I loved coming back to this family. The tease also made me realize that I need to go back and read the first one before this one comes out.

Even though the excerpt is only four chapters long, I loved every minute of it. TJ Klune’s writing is truly something special. The way he creates will grab your attention right away and make you feel as if you’re right along with the characters.

I’m so excited to go back into this world with Arthur, Linus, and all the magical children. “The House in the Cerulean Sea” was such a wonderful and brilliant book made up of unique characters and the most interesting world building. The opening scene was beyond adorable and heartwarming. I just love those kids. In “Somewhere Beyond the Sea,” we get Arthur’s POV and more of his history. He’s going up against the DICOMY (Department in Charge of Magical Youth), to bring equality to all magical people, and to show people how he was treated by the government for being different.

I can already tell SBTS is going to be filled with the TJ humor and emotions we all know and love, along with a beautiful story, just like THITCS, I’m counting down the days until this book releases! Highly recommend reading THITCS before this one to get a better connection to the character and plot. This book will for sure be a top read of 2024!

I was so excited to get an early excerpt of this new book! The first one was an absolute favorite read of mine and I cannot wait for this new installment. Getting to read these first few chapters has me anxiously excited for the rest! I cannot wait!!

The excerpt was good so far and felt like a good continuation from the original story. I like how the children are all a little older now and experiencing "puberty" in their own ways! I also am enjoying reading from Arthur's perspective instead of Linus. I am excited to read the rest!

I have missed these characters so much! Thank you to NetGalley and Tor Book for sharing an excerpt of the first four chapters.

Somewhere Beyond the Sea is a sequel to The House in the Cerulean Sea. In this book we are delightfully reintroduced to the magical family on the island - Arthur, Linus, Lucy, Chauncey, Sal, Talia, Phee and Theodore (and Zoe). I literally giggled out loud when our first glimpse of Chauncey was of him in a trench coat as "secret agent Chauncey"! The story then progress to Arthur and Linus leaving the children for the first time as they travel to speak in front of Parliament to defend the rights of magical beings. The relationship between Arthur and Linus and their love of their beautiful collection of children is the heart of this book (and Cerulean Sea).

TJ Klune is a master of creating lovable and interesting characters and writing a story that makes you giggle, makes you think and gives you hope for more acceptance in the world. I cannot wait to read the rest of the book in September!

I adored the first book and from what I read here I am excited to read more when released later this year. Especially the audiobook. Thank you for allowing me to have access to this early snippet.

I adored this! The children in this book have my whole heart and I would adopt Chauncey in less than a second if possible. TJ Klune has such beautiful writing that’s easy to fall into and be immersed. I can’t wait for the full book to be released so I can spend even more time in this wonderful world.

I received an excerpt of this wonderful sequel to the House in the Cerulean Sea. I was so excited to continue that delightful story and this excerpt has made me so happy.

I suggest reading the House book first but it isn't necessary to enjoy this book.

Watch out reader - a dynamic book from a wonderful author is on the way

What a great little excerpt, you sneaky sneaky folks at Tor! The beginning of the book opens with the kids preparing a birthday celebration for Linus. It hits right in the heart, I love those kids. They remind me of my own daughter at times, and the kids I used to teach and wow. TJ Klune knows very well how to write kids, and it hits right.

The rest of the excerpt follows Arthur and Linus as they go to a hearing where Arthur intends to testify before the council and we’re left on a cliffhanger before that beings. Based on that alone I wonder is this one going to be as cozy and sweet as the first one? I’m definitely going to find out when the book releases, and I’m excited. I also can’t wait to meet David. I love Yeti/Bigfoot lore so I’m tickled our newest kid is going to be a yeti.

I just love TJ Klune.
No one is doing it like he is his writing his characters. It’s just so inviting and immediately pulls, and you never wanna leave his world. This excerpt was fantastic, but also painful because now that I’ve got a taste I just wanna binge the whole book but expect to see me booking release day off and reading the entire thing in one day

So far, Somewhere Beyond the Sea is just as wonderful as The House in the Cerulean Sea, which was absolutely one of my favorite reads of 2020. I don't make a habit of re-reading books (there are too many books and not enough time!), but when my book club chose The House in the Cerulean Sea to read last year, I most definitely did a re-read. Which happened to be great timing because I had just learned that Somewhere Beyond the Sea was coming out in 2024!

This e-book version is an excerpt containing the first four chapters. The opening is a glimpse of Arthur coming back to the island to create a safe haven for children he has yet to meet. Very quickly, we transition to a time not long after The House in the Cerulean Sea ends. TJ Klune does a nice job of re-introducing us to each character without dragging on and boring the reader. Immediately, it feels like we never left the little house and the little island.

Yet again, I was taken in by Klune's humor and grace in his writing. I simply love Klune's writing style. His ability to create characters with such personality is remarkable. I also appreciate his use of language.

I was SO excited to see this title arrive on NetGalley and requested it with such quickness, I didn't even realize it was an excerpt containing only four chapters. We are left at a bit of a turning point and I cannot wait to read the rest of Somewhere Beyond the Sea.

At this point, Somewhere Beyond the Sea is a 5 star read. I anticipate this holding true, but I am looking forward to finishing the rest of the book soon!

My thanks to NetGalley and Tor Publishing Group for the digital ARC excerpt of Somewhere Beyond the Sea, in exchange for my honest review.

I am absolutely looking forward to reading the entire book when it is published! I loved the first book and was so excited to see there would be a second one! Hard to rate the excerpt of the book. Will definitely read and review the full book when it's released!

Once again, TJ Klune has delivered an engaging story with characters you can't help but fall in love with. I am excited to delve back into this world and learn more about the special children and the sweet relationship between Arthur and Linus. I only read an excerpt, but I can't wait to get my hands on the rest of this story to find out more about Arthur and root for him to finally adopt his six wards. The character development and world-building are on par with the LGBTQAI+ magical realism story.
