I adored The House in the Cerulean Sea and was thrilled to find a sequel forthcoming. I did not realize the ARC I was requesting was only a four-chapter excerpt. It is very hard to review part of a book, so I will just say that the excerpt makes me look forward to reading the whole thing! Sometimes sequels feel like a cash grab but this one seems like it will have a much beat and substance as the first book.

Thank you to Tor and NetGalley for providing an excerpt for review.

I'm so excited for this book! I received an excerpt from the novel from Netgally and the first 80 pages did not disappoint! I'm already hooked and emotionally invested in the characters again. I can't wait for this book to be released!

I was so excited for this.
I just finished T.J. Klune’s The House in the Cerulean Sea last night in preparation for reading this ARC.
Imagine my disappointment when I got to the end of chapter four and realized it was only an excerpt. 🥲
Nonetheless, these four chapters have me so excited for September! Klune is a wonderful author using his artistic medium to bring attention to social justice issues still prevalent in contemporary times. As a social work student, I was able to read this book with some nuanced understanding, applying knowledge amassed in social work and sociology classes as I read.
The second book seems to follow Linus and Arthur’s story where the first book left off. Perfect for readers such as myself that ended House in the Cerulean Sea craving more!
Get excited, September is coming and with it Somewhere Beyond the Sea! Giving plenty of time for those of you who haven’t read the first book time to devour it!
It’s hard to write a review based on four chapters, but I promise you, Klune has some great books. Pick one up, you won’t be disappointed

Thank you so much for this excerpt! Four chapters is very generous!

Somewhere Beyond the Sea continues the story we all loved with Arthur and Linus. I was sucked right back into the beautiful world this story is set in. Knowing how far these children (and adults) have come is so heart warming. I'm so glad we get to see Arthur and Linus operate as a family unit together. This made my heart warm.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of this EXCERPT from Somewhere Beyond the Sea by TJ Klune. As a sequel to the much loved House in the Cerulean Sea, I was excited to continue inside this world with all of the amazing characters that Klune created. Although this was only and EXCERPT and not the full novel, the first four chapters did not disappoint. I would have loved to have the entire novel to read and review, but I suppose this was like a teaser which did its job correctly.

I am looking forward to reading the rest of the story when it is published. I am quite sure it will be as lovely, heartbreaking, funny, smart and life affirming as the first book and as these first few chapters.

This excerpt proves that even the best book you’ve ever read can have a sequel that lives up to it. Klune deftly weaves new stories, deep emotion, and familiar characters to Create the book of the year. This is once again a story with heart and a lesson for everyone. It is an instant classic that people will come back to again and again. I can’t wait for the full book.

I audibly gasped when I received the advanced excerpt of “Somewhere Beyond the Sea”. Thank you so much to NetGalley and Tor/Forge for the excerpt! It made my entire week.

It’s been two years since I read “The House in the Cerulean Sea” but I was easily able to remember the characters and setting. TJ Klune’s characters are so well developed that they feel like old friends I haven’t seen in awhile. Picking up this excerpt was like coming home.

I was already excited to read this book, but my excitement grew exponentially after reading the first four chapters. I can already tell that I will be crying when I read the entire book. I can’t wait.

Now I need the entire book, the excerpt wasn’t enough. I just love the way T. J. Klune’s writing style and the way I can always connect with the characters he creates and the story he’s telling us. I loved the house in the cerulean sea too and I know that I’m going to love this one too when I get the book.

Totally recommend this book if you want a cozy, wholesome fantasy book with a beautiful found family (T. J. Klune never disappoints when it comes to the found family trope).

Oh my heart needed this sequel but I admit, I’m disappointed in this excerpt because I NEED the whole book now 😂
Loved it. With Klune’s signature trademark of heartwarming moments, it was the teaser that made me desperate to beg for a full arc.

Pretty please 🙏🏻
Ps. It’s gonna be the fall book you see all over socials

When I clicked for this book I was so excited…. When I got the book, I screamed. When I downloaded it…. I realized it was only an excerpt. But once I got past the disappointment, I realized just how much I missed my friends!
This book is already my 5 star read of this year and I only got a few chapters

Sometimes, even readers fail to read the entire description. It's me, I'm readers. I am so sad this was only an excerpt but it does have me even more excited for the full book. If you loved House in the Cerulean Sea then this is a must read. Thank you @netgalley and @torbooks for this sneaky little taste of my favorite found family and home away from home in my head, Marsyas Island.

I was so excited to dive back into the expertly crafted world by T.J. Klune and read an excerpt from the much-anticipated sequel to "The House on the Cerulean Sea." From the very first page, I was whisked away into a world of magic, charm, and profound themes that I have been missing since finishing book one!

Returning to the beloved characters, particularly the magical children, felt like reuniting with old friends.
Though I only got four chapters, I can tell their journey in this sequel will not only deepens their own personal growth but also expands upon the enchanting universe created by Klune.

What truly sets this book apart is its unwavering commitment to representation and the exploration of crucial themes surrounding acceptance and basic human rights. The Klune seamlessly weaves these important messages into the narrative, reminding readers of the beauty in diversity and the power of empathy.

The level of detail and intricacy in the world-building is nothing short of remarkable. Each page is brimming with vivid imagery and imaginative concepts that transport readers to a place where the extraordinary feels entirely plausible.

I absolutely can not wait to read the rest of this book (especially since the excerpt left on a massive cliff hanger). It's a testament to the power of storytelling to uplift, educate, and ignite the imagination. A five-star read that I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone seeking a magical escape filled with joy, love, and profound meaning.

This is hands down the most exciting ARC I’ve ever been allowed to read and it was only four chapters! If you know me then you know TJ Klune can do no wrong in my eyes, he walks on water and was blessed by the gods above. Every single thing he writes is magic and potato soup for the soul (it’s way better than chicken).. this is the sequel to The House in The Cerulean Sea and will be available for purchase September 10, 2024…yes I’ve already preordered it in hardback with sprayed edges cuz I’m fance ✨
Anyway! This is Arthur’s story and though I only got a peek at four chapters, each and every single page felt like coming home. At the beginning Arthur makes his way back to the house that will become their home. He’s been gone decades and left all those years ago directly following a traumatic event. Arthur takes us on a journey and we get to see some of our favorite characters all over again and it feels like getting a hug from someone you love where you can breathe and your shoulders relax and you can just be. That’s how it feels. I laughed and teared up at the wholesome sweetness and even got a little angry at the end, though I know Arthur and Linus will take care of business. I hope Larmina sticks around because they need more people like her on their side and I’d like to get to know her better. I will never not love a storyline where beloved characters stand up for what is right, for themselves and those that they love.

Two quotes I love that won’t give anything away 💛
“Potatoes and Portugal,” Chauncey said
“Hate is loud. We are louder.”

Thank you TJ Klune, NetGalley & Tor.com Publishing

Can't believe I was fool enough to fall for an EXCERPT and I ended up teasing myself on this so badly. More please more!

It was a privilege to read the first 4 chapters of Somewhere Beyond the Sea. I felt like I was transported right back into TJ Klune's world with my favourite magical beings. They make my heart melt, and had me giggling at their shenanigans. I'm SO excited to meet David and see how Klune continues to address important issues in his work. I'm ready for the rest of the book, waiting for September is going to be tough!!

I received an excerpt (the first four chapters) of this book from Tor and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed The House in the Cerulean Sea, and those kids have my heart! I was really excited to get the excerpt. The book opens with a flashback to Arthur’s first return back to the island after he left and his hard work to restore the home to how we see it in Cerulean Sea.

The kids are back, and gosh, how I still love them! How they are also growing up! Chauncey is still my favorite aspiring bellhop. I was giggling at their antics, and the found family vibes are absolutely still present in Somewhere Beyond the Sea. Arthur and Linus travel to the city for Arthur to testify in front of government on behalf of magical beings, and as you can imagine, there are some big opponents to their message.

I enjoyed the first four chapters a lot, but it’s hard to judge the whole book based on it. That said, I’m very much looking forward to reading this book when it’s published September 10, 2024.

I loved The House in the Cerulean Sea so much, and I was so happy to revisit this world! This was only a 4 chapter excerpt, but I still clutched my heart countless times in heartwarming glee and happiness while reading. I cannot wait for this book to come out!

There was definitely a clear political allegory being set up, but Linus and Arthur balance out each other’s insecurities so beautifully that I can only hope they stay strong during this inevitable struggle. I am also excited to meet David and see how he fits in with the other children! And it was fun to see all the children again and get reacquainted with each of their personalities, with a special shout out to Lucy. I was reminded why I love TJ Klune's writing style - he immerses me in a world of colour and joy that tickles every corner or my brain.

It’s hard to say much about only four chapters, but I felt so many emotions and was so sad it’s over that it definitely upped my anticipation for this book release. Thank you NetGalley for the excerpt! Definitely going to do a reread before this release!

I read the first four chapters through an advance copy excerpt. It was wonderful! I already laughed and cried. I cannot wait for the rest of the book to come out. The writing is witty and the characters heartwarming. I like the way Klune is directly speaking out about the issues facing the queer and transgender communities today. This book is going to be spectacular.
