This excerpt only reinforced what I already knew this book will be near perfection. Coming back to Marsyas Island is like coming home.
TJ Klune has once again brought our favorite magical kids and their guardians back for another adventure.
Sadly, this excerpt is very short so we only get a brief glimpse into where our favorite magical family is up to and a tiny peek into Arthur’s childhood, including some of the trauma he experienced.
We quickly learn that Arthur and Linus are leaving the island to testify against DICOMY to help ensure the magical children are protected. This excerpt ends just as they begin court proceedings.
Even though it was only the very beginning of the story I’m confident that this book will follow suit by taking us on an emotional roller coaster with plenty of warm hugs!

This excerpt got me SO HYPED for the full book publication later this year. TJ Klune writes these characters so well. They each have their own distinct voices and all the kids are so funny in their own ways. Their eccentricities are not seen as things that need to be fixed, but rather as part of who they are.

I was lucky enough to get the first few chapters and I am beyond eager to finish. Seeing the start and experiencing the tenacity of Arthur is truly inspiring. T.J Klune is a master at their craft and I know that the remaining chapters of this story will be just as perfect as this excerpt.

Somewhere Beyond the Sea (Excerpt) by TJ Klune
🌕🌕🌕🌕🌕/5
Have you ever read a book where you wish the pages were endless?
Somewhere Beyond the Sea, a companion book to The House in the Cerulean Sea is one of those books.
Although this was only an excerpt to the novel it is evident that it is written with love and tackles societal injustice and generational trauma in a tender manner.
This is Arthur’s story. Arthur is summoned by the DICOMY (Department in Charge of Magical Youths) to share his personal story in public. Arthur now runs the home / school where he grew up on the island of Marsyas for magically gifted (dangerous) children. He must face the trauma from his childhood to become a voice for all magical beings facing social injustice.
With the support of his partner Linus he will defend and protect his family of magically gifted children whom he wishes to adopt.
The government has alternative motives for the meeting but Arthur and his family have vowed to “keep on throwing stones until someone listens.” Love and courage have a ripple effect in the world! Arthur will be the one who turns ripples into waves of change.
🐦🔥 The comedy in this book is brilliantly written. The children are back and all hell breaks loose, but in the best way! I love these quirky characters. It’s great to see them again.
🐦🔥 I appreciate reading Arthur’s story this time round. He seems to be a complex character that we will learn more about and definitely see him rise in many ways.
🐦🔥 From what I’ve read, this book seems to be highly emotional. It will be heartwarming and heart wrenching at times as the family is sure to go through some trials and tribulations.
🐦🔥I highly recommend reading the first book before this one. The House in the Cerulean Sea is available now and it’s one of my favourites.
Thank you to @netgalley and @torteen for the opportunity to review this excerpt in exchange for an honest review.

The only negative feedback I can offer about this book is that it doesn't come out until September. I am devastated this advanced copy was only the first four chapters, which will make the wait SO MUCH HARDER. Honestly, I wonder if it would have been better to not have this little taste at all. I loved the tiny glimpse into the lives of these characters I love so much and I want to dive into their world and immerse myself.
I suppose a silver lining is that I would have read the entire thing in one sitting and would have shirked on my responsibilities until I was done, so I will need to block out time in September to do just that.

Many, myself included, fell in love with The House in the Cerulean Sea. The characters are so adorably loveable, the setting is beautiful, and the story is so heartfelt and whimsically told that one cannot help but adore it. At least that is how I felt. Imagine my surprise to discover a sequel being released later this year.
Tor and NetGalley graciously approved my request to review a short four-chapter excerpt. When I say I squealed, I SQUEALED!! I then promptly devoured it. How can an author put so much into just four chapters? I am asking myself this as I write this review. When I say this felt like coming home, I mean it with every fiber of my being. I laughed, I cried, and the ending of the excerpt left me anxiously waiting for the release. I could not have asked for a better beginning than what is written within these pages.

This is the first series by TJ Klune that I have read and I am now team Klune!
Somewhere Beyond the Sea was so pure and beautiful. At night in bed, I literally laughed out loud. I love the charactera and the writing.
The kids are magically hilarious and witty.
Thank you Netgalley and Tor for allowing me to read this expert. I absolutely cannot wait to buy this one!
Ah!! so cozy and heart warming.

This excerpt was very interesting, it made me want to read the rest of the book. I didn't know this was a sequel and now I have to go and read the first book. The characters, writing, and plot were very engaging and i cant wait to read the full book.

I don't usually grab excerpts, but I couldn't help myself on this one and it feels like a mistake because I want the rest of the book now. I loved The House in the Cerulean Sea and, if this excerpt is anything to go by, I'm going to love Somewhere Beyond the Sea. I can't wait!

This excerpt was so great! It got right back into the story and placed you back into the world of Arthur, Linus and all the children. I can't wait to continue on in this story and I'm so excited for the release date. I have now pre-ordered my copy!

This excerpt is a tease and I'm mad I don't have all of this book right now. The way Klune writes these characters I know I'm going to cry and feel too many feelings just like The House on the Cerulean Sea. If you haven't read that one, I don't think you need to but also you have to!!

Somehow didn't realize that this was just an excerpt, so I was surprised when I came to the end so quickly - but of course absolutely loved this! Arthur and Linus and all of the kids are such a heartwarming bunch and I can't wait to be back with them - and see the whole story - once this hits shelves later this year!

I’d like to thank Tor Publishing for a chance to read this excerpt from the upcoming Somewhere Beyond the Sea, the sequel to TJ Klune’s The House in the Cerulean Sea.
When we left our beloved family of magical children at the conclusion of House, they were happy and content on their island, newly accepted by many of their local townsfolk, and each one pursuing their favorite hobbies. Talia was gardening, Theodore was guarding his button hoard, Sal was writing, Chauncey was working as a bellhop. The children not only had Arthur and Zoe, but they also had their Linus. They were a big happy family.
And reading the excerpt gives me loads of anxiety that their family is about to be torn apart. When Arthur and Linus leave the island so that Arthur can testify about his experience as a magical child in the care of a DICOMY orphanage, they are informed that this is much more, and much worse, than a testimony. A hate-filled, ambitious politician has her eye on the role of Prime Minister, and she thinks tearing apart Arthur Parnassus will get her what she wants.
There’s a very Nazi-Germany circa the 1930s vibe to the entire Bandycross (government building where the testimony will be held) scene. The whole scenario fills me with dread. I hope Arthur can keep his cool. I hope Linus’ history with DICOMY will help him navigate these dangerous waters. I hope the children will be okay, and I hope I’ll be okay considering I have almost five months to wait until I can find out what happens.
Somewhere Beyond the Sea will be published on September 10, 2024.

It's been three and a half years since I first read The House in the Cerulean Sea, but the first four chapters of Somewhere Beyond the Sea brought me straight back into the story! I'm so thrilled that the author has chosen to continue with this world and these characters and now I can't wait to see how the rest of the story unfolds. It sounds like there will be new characters to love and new villains to hate. Thank you to Tor, the author, and Netgalley for this sneak peak.

This Excerpt was a delightful treat showing a skillful return to this world on the part of the author. I will be looking forward to grabbing a copy of the finished book upon its release.
Somewhere Beyond the Sea by TJ Klune is set within the world of House on the cerulean sea and is a wonderfully nostalgic read for fans who wearn't quite ready to let that place be only a memory.

I got an ARC of the first 4 chapters and breezed through them! Loved being back on the island with Arthur and Lunus, as well as all the kids!
I felt right at home as I reacquainted myself with the story and the characters...it truly was like returning home after a long vacation away!
The new storyline is intriguing and has a lot at stake for Arthur, Linus and their magical children...and I'm here for it!
Love, love, love!!!

I'm so excited to have this book in my hands the first few chapters were such an amazing tease! The first book tugged on my heartstrings and I'm sure that this one will be the same. It's sure to be a favorite for the year and I cannot wait.

Wow. I never thought that there would be a sequel to 'House in the Cerulean Sea,' but I'm so, so glad there is. I was worried it would feel like a cash-grab, but instead it feels like homecoming. Getting to see Linus and the kids from Arthur's point of view is such a treat and I cannot WAIT to read the full book. The prologue, where the reader gets glimpses into Arthur's past and his time renovating the House to turn it into a home, almost made me cry. Sometimes, we need to revisit the places where our worst nightmares happened, to remind ourselves that we've grown past those times. Gosh, this excerpt just made me so emotional!

Was a little bummed to see that this was just an excerpt, but I was just so happy to be reunited with Linus, Arthur, and the kids! It was like revisiting an old friend, and I can't wait for the full book as I'm hoping it will be just as magical as the first!

Once I found out this was a four chapter excerpt, I went back and forth if I wanted to read it now knowing it'd be months before the book was released. I am happy I decided to read the chapters, even though now I've got to wait for the rest. The atmosphere and characters of the first book shine through again in this one. It looks like this book will explore Arthur's past more fully.
