I really enjoyed this book. It wasn't my favorite Brom title but I still really enjoyed it. The story was vivid and scary. The characters all had Brom's usual flair. Overall this was a great addition to Brom's library.

BROM takes on possession in a new way. This book starts off intense and doesn’t slow down. Gory and terrifying!

Ruby's life isn't going great, and it's made worse by her boyfriend letting her take the fall for his drug dealing. She's just trying to make it through court-ordered service so she can escape to Atlanta, reunite with her best friend, and get their band back together. An evil entity will interfere with those plans and cause even more havoc in Ruby's life.

What I Liked:
1. That cover is stunning
2. Writing sucks you into the story
3. Loved the audiobook
What I Didn't Like:
1. Bees knees & cat's meows & cat's pajamas
2. Chapters too long
3. Some parts felt repetitive
Overall Thoughts:
{{Disclaimer: I write my review as I read}}
Ruby is typical punk snob. No one else can like anything other than punk. It's the same in the metal club.
Ruby being sexually assaulted and having them blackmail her. This sucks that everyone is so ready to turn her in for anything.
I was shocked when Ruby dropped that bucket of tar on Billy and Stacy. I understand her complete frustration, but wow it was crazy.
I can not believe her mother gave away her money (from her dad) to this loser. I seriously not see what it is about Eduardo that Rudy's mom thinks he's such a great guy. How does she go from Ruby's dad (described as amazing and kind) to this dude that has a man baby and constantly threatens Ruby? I didn't understand though why Ruby's mom was in control of her money when she's 24 years old.
Why would demons eat ghosts?
If she was in trouble I had to save her, and believe me, the irony wasn’t lost on me. For at that moment, I could think of no worse tragedy than someone murdering her before I did.
Omg some of the stuff that Richard says is too funny. This character is killing me!
Eduardo getting a felony for almost killing a woman when he was driving drunk.
Ohhhhhhhhhhh Ruby's dad was actually dealing with mental illness from Vietnam and was abusing the family and she just now remembered this with help.
I get that the radio host was being nice to Tina, but he wouldn't think it's odd that they had already forced their way into the radio station to play their song and then here they are promoting the song, after the singer is missing? Weird.
Final Thoughts:
“The taint is upon you. You can run, but never hide. Evil will find you.”
How am I not supposed to think about a dudes taint whenever I read these parts??? I felt as though I was a 12 year old boy every time I came to a part that said taint. I cannot be the only one thinking this. There has to be other people out here who got a laugh out of this. Some context;
{{The perineum, or the area between the anus and genitals, is also known as the taint or gooch in American slang.}}
The book was good and there aspects of the book I loved, but it reminded me so much of a Scooby-Doo episode. The episode with The Hex Girls.
After a certain point the song that continues to play becomes really annoying. It's played over and over too many times.
I enjoyed this book and thought it was a lot of fun. There was a point (60%) where I felt like it was getting repetitive. They would run and Dick would chase them. They would play and Dick would chase them. They played and Eduardo and Dick chased them. It also felt like the police didn't really care about what Ruby had done to Billy and Stacy. They were able to make flyers with their names on them and blast her name on the radio. I'd think that's assault for what she did to them.
Also I am not letting Ruby's mom off of the hook - she's horrible;
• She allowed her daughter to live with a dangerous man (her father) that was threatening to kill them & almost succeeded
• She stole money that was Ruby's to give to a man that was threatening to Ruby
• She allowed Eduardo and his son to abuse (sexually & verbally) Ruby on a daily basis

Thanks to Netgalley and Tor publishing for this advanced copy of the book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Ugh. Brom writes the coolest books. Between the art, the production of the audiobook, the amazing premise, I fear I just had my expectations too high. The characters didn’t hook me as much as I need in a story like this. It felt like an edgy young adult story which I didn’t think it was supposed to. Song lyrics in books are always off for me. I can’t explain why. Brom will remain an autobuy author for me and I know there is an audience for this one.

Hear me out… I never thought I would want to hug a demon, but Evil in Me deff made me want to. 😬😂
I loved this one. Like all of Brom’s work, it caught my attention and didn’t let go. Ruby has so much going on, she’s in trouble with the law, stuck in a miserable circumstance while doing community service, her ex-boyfriend is a dick, her mom sucks and her mom’s boyfriend and son are even worse, her and her bestie aren’t on speaking terms, her mental health is spiraling out of control, she misses her dead father, she’s unknowingly being stalked by some freak who wants to kill her, and oh and she’s possessed by a demon. Basically her life is complete shit and she’s trying so hard to fix it all. I felt for her so much and wanted to give her the biggest huge ever. This one was quite the ride and so much fun to read, what an homage to 80’s punk. 🖤 And I have to say I really loved ole Vetto, he was such a good egg. 🥹 Thanks to Tor Nightfire for my eARC. Evil in Me published this week.

I loved this title so much! All of the characters were beyond amazing and so well developed. I found myself excited to come back to this book every time I had to put it down. Brom is a genius storyteller and really captured the spirit of the 80s through the characters. Ruby Tucker had such an arc through this book going from being submissive and directionless to being the most badass female character I've seen in awhile. Tina was also incredible and really gave you the energy of a punk because she was not only also badass but really caring and engaging. I loved the redemption arc of Eduardo and I really loved that Richard got what was coming to him. This book was 10 out of 10 for me.

I wanted to like this way more than I did. There were a lot of good elements here. A misguided but kickass protag who doesn't give up (and loves The Cramps). A cursed ring. Possession. Blood, gore, and violence. A serial killer. There almost seemed to be too many things crammed into this story, as well as a dash of overexplaining. I only finished to answer one question and that was it. It's unfortunately not a story that's going to stick with me now that it's over.

I really enjoyed the 80s rock vibes that permeated Evil in Me. The opening reminded me of early Supernatural episodes, setting a great tone for the story. This book made me laugh, cry, and grossed me out at times. I was genuinely rooting for Ruby, and it was great to see her growth throughout the story. The supporting characters were well-written and added depth to the narrative. While I'm fairly new to the horror genre, I found the premise unique. There may be similar books out there, but this one packed a lot into a short space—demonic relics, demon possessions, ghosts, punk rock, serial killers, and even Jewish lore. I loved the multiple POVs, and the author nailed the ending. Overall, it was a fantastic read! 4.5 out of 5 stars.
Note: I’d recommend looking up trigger warnings before diving in. Also, thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me access to an eARC of this book. All thoughts are my own. However, I loved it so much that I bought a physical copy for myself!

I have grown to be a big fan of this author and this one did not disappoint. I feel like my favorite will always be slewfoot but this was unique in its own way and I just love how the author tells the story. I bought my own copy of this one!

𝗘𝘃𝗶𝗹 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗲 𝗯𝘆 𝗕𝗿𝗼𝗺 might be my favorite by him yet. Maybe second to 𝗞𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗽𝘂𝘀 because the quotes from that audio still resonate with me. 🙌🏻
This was so much fun!! Unlike his other stories, this one was full of all the punk rock vibes my little rock n’ roll heart desires. 🤘🏻 Complete of course with demonic possession, damnation, and the power of friendship. I really loved this one.
First and foremost, you CANNOT talk about a Brom book and not give praise to his phenomenal illustrations. Seriously they alone are worth buying the book.
Second, there was so much praise for the audio with original music performed by The Maxines that I had to check it out myself and the 6.5 hours yesterday was 100% worth it. The narration was done so well from Ruby to Beel and everyone in between! Highly recommend this with accompanying the physical book. You’ll thank me.
Ruby was a fantastic FMC who began as someone kind of unlikeable but quickly developed into this badass punk rock hero. There’s an array of side characters (some with their own POV) that are either heartfelt or seriously deranged and I think they all give unique aspects to the story that I loved. From a serial killers POV to the demonic slave possessing Ruby. There’s some gore and body horror, revenge, and a full on rock lovers dream. This was a story worth risking demonic possession for.

Evil In Me is a love story to the 80s punk culture. And while it at times was absolutely fun, it ultimately fell flat. This novel follows Ruby Tucker, a teenage rebel, who discovers a demonic ring and ends up being possessed by a demon.
The first half was fun and exciting. But once Ruby got possessed, I found the story dragging. All the characters are horrible people and I really didn’t care about anyone. I found myself waiting for the story to just end.
Thank you NetGalley and Tor for the eArc in exchange for a review.

The latest from Brom is a punk rock romp peppered with folk lore, lost magic, a cursed object, and a (mostly) loveable motley crew of characters. The story follows main character Ruby as she navigates friendship, family and her troubled past.
This was my first Brom read! I found the writing style fast paced and easy to read. The POV changes were easy to follow and kept me engaged. This is horror and parts of the story truly scared me.
Comps-We Sold Our Sold by Grady Hendrix, Schrader"s Chord by Scott Leeds.
Thanks to Tor for the chance to review this as an eARC. I'm excited to get my own print copy so I can enjoy Brom's amazing artwork but I really enjoyed this story on words alone.

BROM takes the concept of possession and makes it his own. Loved the references to music throughout the book but did feel at times like I just couldn’t connect to the story. However, it was still an enjoyable read that really takes off right from the start!

I guess the 80s storyline and “boogerhead” way of speaking is just not enjoyable for me to read. The cover of the book drew me in, it’s absolutely beautiful. It took me a while to finish this book as I did not want to give up on it. The overall storyline was pretty good even scary in the beginning but it sort of lost its appeal in the middle of the book. There were some characters (Dick) that didn’t make sense to me at all and the ending fell flat. I do love the possessed object idea so I think it may be the 80s punk rock/musicians that I did not enjoy. The book had a lot of small moments that were interesting and cut me off guard (religion) so overall it’s a good read.

If horror mixed with dark humor is your thing, and you’ve always wondered what it would’ve been like had the Satanic Panic in the 80s been an actual occurrence, then you’ve found your next read.
Brom takes us on a wild journey through Ruby, an aspiring musician whose dream of making it in the ATL punk scene is derailed when she’s possessed by a demon. Or is it?
This was such a fun read and I truly love how Brom spins the “music is a conduit for evil” belief that follows certain musical genres on its proverbial head. The whole vibe of the book just comes across as a love letter to the 80s, punk music, and of course horror. I don’t want to give too much away, but if you love these things like I do, you definitely need to read Evil In Me.
I read an ARC version which does not have Brom’s artwork included, so I’m curious to see how much that enhances the feel of the book.
Thanks to NetGalley and Tor Nightlife for the ARC. Receiving it had absolutely zero influence on my review, and as always, my opinions are my own and honest.
5 ⭐️

The cover for this book is gorgeous, to start. This book is a fast-paced and has demons, religious horror, folklore and serial killers. You`re getting a lot of content in less than 300 pages! I loved how it brought together an oddball group of characters to help Ruby fight. I really enjoyed some of the characterizations, especially the friendship between Ruby and Tina which was really sweet.
The slow start and the serial killer subplot didn’t quite hit the mark for me, which is why I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5. That said, overall I did enjoy Brom’s writing - this is the first book I`ve read of his. I read the kindle version and I’m excited to see the full artwork in the final printed version. If you like stories about possession, punk rock, religious themes, and coming-of-age struggles, this is definitely worth checking out!
Thanks to NetGalley and Tor/Forge for the opportunity to read the eARC—my review reflects my honest opinions.

"Evil in Me" by Brom is a dark, twisted ride that blends rock 'n' roll with the supernatural. The story follows Ruby Tucker, a struggling musician who becomes possessed by a demon after an ancient ring latches onto her. The book is packed with heavy themes of mental turmoil, rage, and the cost of ambition, as Ruby must gather her band back together to cast out the evil force inside her. Brom’s vivid writing pulls you into Ruby’s emotional conflict while delivering a fast-paced, punk-fueled horror. The plot is gripping, with Ruby constantly battling inner demons as well as literal ones, leading to an intense, chaotic narrative. If you love edgy horror with a dash of musical mayhem, this book hits all the right notes.

This book was unlike anything I have ever read in the horror genre. I think the combination of 80s punk rock and possession made for a unique and fun story. This book was action-packed and fast-paced. I could hardly put it down. I also loved that it leaned heavily on Jewish mysticism, which I feel is rarely seen in fiction. I will definitely be exploring more of Brom's work in the future.
Thank you to Tor Publishing Group and to NetGalley for providing this ARC in exchange for a review.

Punk rock, demonic possession, satanic panic and gore! What better combination for a horror novel could there be? This was such a fun, campy and creepy read. It sucked me in from the first chapter and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout.
I really enjoyed Brom's writing, especially the characters. I didn't really like any of them (except Vutto - I've always been a sucker for drummers 😂), but I loved their arcs and how real they felt.
This is the first book I've read by Brom and it definitely won't be the last! I need to get physical copies of his books so I can see the illustrations too. The cover art on Evil In Me is so very cool 🤩
