I so wanted to really enjoy this it had the premise of being superb but I found the twists all a little confusing and I could t keep up so I rated it 3.75
Her Pretty Lies is the story of Kendall who suddenly falls into terrible trouble that just keeps getting worse.
She has everything then loses it all.
She is offered the chance at redemption and takes it but even that is a step in the distinctly dangerous path down.
A fast read with twists that keep you turning each page.
I recommend it
I had a good time reading this book. The story is very interesting and even confusing at times, which makes you want to read on to see who did what, and what actually happened.
This book is super twisty, with a lot of things happening at once near the end and storylines that made me scratch my neck and try to figure out how that all worked, but weirdly enough I really enjoyed it and it was a great quick palate cleanser for me.
What I didn't really enjoy is how we, as the reader, were thrown into the middle of the story with a lot of characters and a lot of names to remember. Normally I don't mind it too much, but this was a huge info bomb right at the start, which made the book a bit harder to get into at first.
Kendall is not having a great day. She had everything she ever wanted - the man she was going to marry, her dream fellowship and a perfect apartment.
But dreams don’t always last do they…
When her world gets turned upside down and she starts receiving weird letters in the mail and suddenly she’s the number one suspect in murder.
This was a really interesting read. It was twisty and had you second guessing everything all the way through the story. Basically my favourite combination of things in a thriller (if you can make it impossible for me to work out, them you’ve done a good job). However, I did feel like there was one or two too many twists in the story that ended up making the ending feeling a little left field. It worked, but I felt like there were a few bits missing that made the ending not feel quite right.
In saying that, it was a really enjoyable read and if you also love a twisty thriller then you will love this.
Thank you @netgalley and @stormbooks_co for the opportunity to read and review this e-ARC.
Holy cow. With all the twists and turns in this one, it kept my attention and it made for a great cardio read at the gym! I was not expecting half of the events that happened in this book. My mind is blown! Definitely a fun, quick, crazy read!
Thank you to NetGalley for the eARC.
Unfortunately, this book did not work for me. I struggled to get through it and really did not enjoy the plot or characters.
Wow! This was a wild ride. I thought I had the twist figured out but it was so much more than I imagined. The story built up so smoothly and gave a very twisty, satisfying end. I loved this! There were also some great one-liners that had me cackling out loud. So good.
Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to read this thriller.
I must be honest in my review. I did not like the book at all. There were far too many twists and turns and at the end I still wasn't sure whose Kendall's biological father was.
It was a confusing read and in tying up loose ends I realized that was when the book started - when a baby girl was taken from its mother.
There were too many characters involved in this huge cover-up and although I read to the ending, it made me even more confused. I do not recommend this book.
This was an awesome thriller and something I wasn’t expecting! This is my first book by this author and I have a feeling I’ll be reading more of her books!
Decent 3 star beach read/popcorn thriller. There was a lot going on. Multiple characters, storylines, side plots and a little too much death to be in any way believable.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
This was so well done!! The writing style is effortless. The plot is gripping and full of twists and turns, I could not put this down!
I was fortunate to have received an ARC of this book from NetGalley.
Her Pretty Lies weaves a tale about Kendall Good. The promising student loses her education grant, her boyfriend, and her dream place all in the same day. She is approached by a social media influencer who strikes a bargain of housing, in exchange for helping her with classes. However, a murder leaves Kendall looking suspicious and presents more questions, than answers.
Great story with surprising twists and turns. I do feel the ending was rushed a bit but still a fun read.
Her Pretty Lies by Angela Henry is a really fast-moving book that I read in one sitting.
You don’t have to worry about boring or low parts in this novel, but you do have to suspend reality a little because everyone is connected in some way. I won’t spoil it for you…
Everything seems to happen to Kendall at once- the grant she was going to receive gets taken away, she catches her boyfriend cheating and she has nowhere to go and no money.
So when another student approaches her with a scheme that could get her kicked out of school, yet also solve many of her problems, she can’t really turn it down. And these eventually lead to some terrible things happening.
There are many secrets and twists in this book, everyone appears to be lying and you really can’t trust anyone.
Synopsis:
The paramedics tell me I’m in shock as they load the body bag into the ambulance.
Only days ago, I had everything. A man I wanted to marry. A prestigious fellowship for graduate school. A perfect new apartment. I’m a psychology student. I should have known she was hiding something from the start…
Now I’m shivering under a foil blanket wondering how my life became a nightmare.
And when the paramedics check me over, it’s not concern I see on their faces. It’s fear.
They think I did this. They think I killed her…
Out now!
Holy smokes this book was so good, I couldn't put it down! At the beginning I felt sorry for Kendall after she lost the fellowship trying to figure out a new plan for grad school. Then I started to wonder what was really going on, something didn't seem quite right. Then the book flashes back and forth between timelines and at first I was confused because the story lines weren't matching up. But when it all came together I couldn't believe it. From there it was one twist after another. The dynamic between Kendall and Mac was a bit odd at first but once that was straight in my head it made it even harder to put down. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC of this book.
4 stars for Her Pretty Lies by Angela Henry!
What a GREAT thriller read! Kendall, the mc, has lost funding for school. As luck would have it, she gets wrapped up with Mackenzie, a popular influencer, who just needs a little help in exchange. Of course, nothing will never go as planned, and Kendall is thrown for a wild ride throughout the rest of the book.
A solid 3.5-4 star read, Her Pretty Lies is twisty and keeps you guessing until the end. It took me a little bit to get into the story, but I find that makes a great thriller. It was like you are reading on and on, and it quickly takes a turn I was not expecting. Every single character has a secret, some you can spot a mile away, others are going to throw you for a loop! If you love thrillers with twists and turns, this is the book for you. Quick and enjoyable read!
Thank you NetGalley, Storm Publishing, and Angela Henry for sharing an ARC with me. (:
A fast-paced juicy drama with lots of plot twists, some more believable than others, with an underdog main character you can’t help but root for. 3.5 stars rounded up. Thanks to #netgalley for an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
This novel has so many twists and turns that it kept me turning pages long after I'd said "just one more chapter." Kendall Good is trying to get through grad school, but every single thing that could go wrong, does. And, it's not just minor problems...these are life changing.
I really enjoyed this novel, and I'll be awaiting more from the author.
Thank you to Storm Publishing and NetGalley for a digital ARC of this title in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
What do you do when everything in your world falls apart? You think you have a solution and a brick wall smacks you in the face. Another opportunity arises only to throw another wall. This is where you find Kendall Good. She just wants to make it through grad school and the trouble that finds her is scary!
The story was great and so many twists I kept thinking I knew but didn't know. So glad I had the opportunity to read this!!!
Not great but not awful, this story plodded along at a reasonable pace and had a couple of good twists, but the characters weren’t great, not likeable or relatable except for Kendall at times, though she also annoyed me.
The plot was a bit far fetched but it’s fiction after all and it was entertaining.
I found this book an easy read overall and mostly well written.
I really enjoyed this book. I thought it was well-thought out and reading it was easy. It didn't have any parts that were super hard to understand, which makes it a nice easy read!
