This book was really good. I was very invested in the characters and their development. The plot was great and had the perfect amount of twists. This book was definitely worth the read.

The Other Woman by Tania Tay was a very good book especially as this is her first book by this author. It was a twisting, compulsive and unputdownable thriller that had me gripped from the beginning. I ended up reading this book, in one sitting, sitting in my garden under the shade. I could not turn the pages quick enough. I loved it!

I highly recommend this book a great holiday read.

Big Thank you NetGalley and Headline for my ARC.

Jade is a stay at home mom of three, with a husband who has been increasingly distant. She wants to get back into freelance work to bring in some extra money and longs to feel like her old self again. An old friend turns back up in her life and needs a place to live, so she offers to help with the children. It seems like the perfect solution... or is it? A quick twisty read that will keep you guessing.

Although marketed as a thriller this feels more like a really good domestic suspense, with a slow-burn story that plays out with a few twists and shocks… I was on the edge of my seat the whole time!

Characters are well-drawn and extremely vivid; Sam, Jade and Christina complement each other nicely with their personalities and you can really feel Jade’s suspicions and fear as we progress. Word of warning: the youngest child may put you off having kids as he is the most irritating little boy ever… it therefore seems fitting that he is the one needing rescuing at the end!

There could perhaps have been more time spent on the final few twists, as they feel a little rushed, compared to the first half of the book which receives a lot of dedicated time.

The reveal is not immediately obvious which is good, but could have been more visceral in its description although that probably says more about me than the author… However, the surprise felt by Sam feels realistic and frustrating and may make you angry!

I would have liked to hear more about Mazz’s story as she was a brilliant character; once we are aware of her initial motivations, the second one could have been expanded to make readers really feel the anger and sadness within.

Overall a compelling, well-written debut and I look forward to Tania’s next book.

Feeling underwhelmed and unsatisfied over this one.

Let me tell you exactly how I was personally victimized by each of the three main characters and their plotlines.

Bottom of the pyramid, we have Mazza. Making her grand debut in Chapter Eleven, Mazza is consistently SO close to giving me something. From the connection between her and Sam to the whole talking to the dead thing, one might begin to think that all of that buildup will lead to a grand reveal of biblical proportions.

SPOILER WARNING: It does not.

Instead, her character is left half-baked and her arc is wrapped up in a throwaway chapter.

Up next, Christina. I have so many thoughts and feelings over her.

For one, I need someone to PLEASE get my girl into therapy. She went through multiple serious traumas in quick succession and never healed from a single one of them.

With well wishes sent her way, she pissed me off so bad. Having trauma doesn't make it okay for you to psychologically torture your best friend and kidnap her kids. You can't just do that. And her whole 'I don't blame you' speech right before going on to blame Jade for 'enabling' Sam... I had to take a pause.

One thing to know about Jade is that she's actually never done a single thing wrong. Sure, she can be a little too trusting and minorly self-absorbed, but she's also doing her best.

Unfortunately, her best is really fucking sad to watch. Throughout the book, Jade questions and criticizes everything about herself. She is constantly being put into situations where she's made to doubt her own judgment, and she falls into the trap every single time.

None of that gets any sort of resolution. It's just kind of accepted that, yeah, it's kinda her own fault that all of these horrible things are happening to her and her kids.

I think this book had so much potential that got ruined by questionable pacing and a lack of a satisfactory resolution.

Oh, and fuck you, Sam.

Jade is British-Chinese and living a happy life - husband, children, nice home, etc – but although her husband, Sam, has always been hardworking, he’s becoming more distant and spending more time out on business. Now that the children are at nursery and school, Jade wants to get back to work and the ideal opportunity presents itself when her best friend from Uni, Christina, gets back in touch.

Christina had suddenly left Uni but she did complete her medical training. She’s now getting divorced from her husband and thought she’d come and work in a London hospital, so while she looks for a flat and a job, she stays at Jade’s house. She’s very keen to help out with the children while Jade does some advertising work. Everything’s going so well until Jade picks up her husband’s phone and notices a text from an unknown number, and the secrets start coming out.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I really enjoyed it. It kept me gripped with unexpected twists, although I found the ending a little bit rushed and would’ve preferred another chapter or two to round things off.

Thank you to NetGalley and Headline for an advance reader copy in return for an honest review.

This is what I would classify as a popcorn thriller. I needed an easy read so it served it’s purpose.
3 POV
This took a while to get somewhere. Dragged a bit. This is about domestic relationships and friendships. Lies and betrayal. One that was clearly predictable.

If you enjoy a good popcorn thriller then check it out.

Thanks to Headline, NetGalley and Tania Tay for the opportunity.

Tania Tay does a fantastic job in writing a tense atmosphere that I was hooked from the first page till the end. The characters were wonderfully done and I was engaged with their story. It uses the psychological element that I was hoping for and thought it had everything that I wanted. I can’t wait to read more from Tania Tay as I really enjoyed reading this.

Thanks to NetGalley and Headline Publishing for the chance to read an ARC of The Other Woman. It started very slow for me and I had a hard time staying focused on the plot. The pace did pick up but then the end felt very rushed. There were no big twists so it felt like it was lacking in the thriller category.

A gripping thriller with twists that had me read this book into the night.
What starts off as a meeting with Christina a past friend from university who needs a place to stay and Jade invites her into her home and family to stay for now.... events unfold and secrets are unearthed. This is a quick read, a good twsty thriller and one i would recommend

I really did not know what to expect when starting this novel, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
This is your typical psychological thriller, but there is something more special about this one.

The narrative follows Jade, a mother of three and wife, who finds herself reconnecting with an old friend. She is helpful, attentive, and wants to slot back into Jade's life as quickly as she left it - but is all as it seems? Truth after truth is revealed, and things begin happening that doesn't seem quite right.

Honestly there were so many narrative strands to this story that I felt like I was constantly on tender hooks, waiting for something to happen. The first quarter of the book I would say was relatively slow, but it helped to build a really clear picture of Jade, her family circumstance, and generally her characterisation. I felt for her on multiple levels, particularly the challenges she was facing with her marriage, and the slow start to the book helped me build a connection with her.

Christina gave me total weird vibes, and this was heightened considering she practically waltzed into Jade's life and made herself comfortable. I just didn't quite trust her.

I found the multiple pov story-telling, alongside the timeline jumps to be really helpful when trying (and failing) to piece the puzzle together. Even though I got there before the grand reveal, it was by the skin of my teeth!

Great read, when I read the title I thought here we go again an affair, but I was pleasantly surprised, it had me gripped and I finished it in 1 and a bit sittings. It's quite stalkerish esque. Creepy vibes!!
Jade mom of 3 re connects with her old uni friend Cristina, she becomes dispensable around the house cooking, cleaning, looking after the children whilst jade returns to working from home..... is Cristina there for the right reasons? Or does she have an agenda,? She certainly gets her feet under the table, is she flirting with sam jade's husband? What does she want? I would definately recommend this read

This was a fast paced thriller however there wasn’t any major shocking twists and it was quite predictable at times. The character were well written and you just want to reach into the book and shake them at times. The ending was a bit far fetched.

⭐⭐⭐
The Other Woman by Tania Tay is a twisting, compulsive, and unputdownable thriller with a great plot, the ending totally surprised me!! This book contains betrayal, friendship, family drama, domestic drama, and suspense. I was so scared for the characters... I liked how so many points of view were presented so it felt full. This was a hard one as I liked it enough but not enough ... Is that even make sense?

Mum of three Jade meets Christina, an old friend from the university whom Jade hadn't met for years. When Jade offers Christina a place in the house and a "job" as a nanny for her children she isn't ready to open the tin of warms...

Things were just starting to pile up and Madhouse is right there! It's hard to detect who is the real bad guy so you just keep guessing.

Even though I didn't connect with this book as I wanted, this could be your next 5-star read!

Thank you NetGalley and Headline for the copy!

There are three main POVs in this book. Jade, a mum with a husband she can’t trust; Christina, Jade’s old university friend who is staying at her house; and Mazza, a young girl who is blackmailing Jade’s husband.

The plot was interesting, but predictable. It was a very slow paced beginning, and the ending seemed to be quite rushed. It was lacking the suspense and twists that usually come with thriller stories.
It would have been nice to see what happened with Mazza and Sam, as it ended abruptly with Jade being none the wiser to what her husband had done.

Thank you to Net Galley & Headline for this ARC.

The Other Woman by Tania Tay was an exciting mystery read. Jade struggles as the mother of three young children while her husband, Sam, tries to keep an ad agency afloat. When an old university friend, Christina, arrives at their door, life gets turned upside down. This was an exciting story about friendship, trust, and deceit.

Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the advanced copy of the book.

Thanks so much to NetGalley and the publisher for my advanced copy!

This book follows Jade, a mom of three who has just reunited with her college best friend, Christina. Christina ends up living at Jade’s house helping out with the kids some so Jade can do some work. Jade confide in Christina when she spots a text from an unknown number on here husband’s phone one day.

This book started out great with a heart pumping prologue. Then it’s got real slow and felt like nothing really happened until 60% in. I enjoy British thrillers but this one used a lot of slang and SO much baby talk from a young son that really added nothing to the story and got on my nerves. It’s made it’s hard to read at times. But I powered through, and the ending was great.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.

Jade is a stay at home mum of 3. She has recently reconnected with her old university flat mate, Christina, and is excited to meet up with her.

When Christina turns up down on her luck, Jade offers her the chance to move in. A grateful Christina offers babysitting and allows Jade to go back to work. So much is hidden-what is Christina’s secret and what is going on with Jade’s husband Ben.

This was a nice easy to read story. Not my typical choice of thriller. There was a lot of mystery and suspense but also a lot of relationships and family life. I did have the motivations worked out from early on, but it was nice to have these proven correct! It was well written and I enjoyed the descriptions of Edinburgh and the Scottish scenery. Jade was written as a strong character but her biggest weakness was her love for her husband. Christina had her heart in the right place, but was essentially a lying manipulator.

A good choice for a holiday read.

So many lies and twists to be discovered!!

So I thought this book was okay and the kids were super cute especially Leo but it was very predictable and lacked the suspense and thrill factor. It didn’t keep me wanting to read more.

The plot was interesting and I did want to know how it would end but it wasn’t anything crazy.

Thanks netgalley for this ARC. Publish date is sept 24, 2024
