This book is a cute picture book about what would happen if the librarian was replaced by an alpaca. I can see children loving the humor in this book. I give the story a 5. Unfortunately, the illustrations didn't work for me. I did like the alpaca and thought it was cute and well drawn. It was the kids that I didn't like. I don't even know what exactly it was about them, they were just hard to look at for some reason. I would give the illustrations a 2. But since I know I am not the target demographic and I think kids will love this book, I will round up to give it a 4 overall.
I received a digital ARC of the book thanks to the publisher and NetGalley.

A cute story about the experience some kids have at the library when their regular librarian is not there and an alpaca is there instead. It makes the kids appreciate their librarian and all of the things she does to help them when they visit the library. Colorful illustrations help you see the story as it unfolds.

Hilariously funny children’s picture book about a Llama who stands in for the librarian. Bound to make children giggle & appreciate their real librarian all the more.

Alpacas Make TERRIBLE Librarians!! is such a great title that made us want to read this colourful, zany picture book. On the surface it appears to be just a fun story but information and facts have been subtly woven in to teach young readers more about alpacas too.

We're introduced to the bizarre behaviours that alpaca librarians indulge in, e.g. giving haircuts, taking away animal books that are not about alpacas and not being quiet in the library. Story time with an alpaca is entertaining as they display bizarre character traits and behaviours including sunbathing and not using the bathroom. But whatever you do don’t pick up a book about llamas….

We love the alpaca librarian, she's such a self centred egoistical character whose amusing ideas about how to run a library cause a lot of confusion for the children visiting. Humming, spitting, book banning are not things that they’re used to and they’re relieved when their usual librarian returns.

There are so many amusing details in the vibrant, colourful illustrations, we particularly love the alpaca's blue eyeshadow! Hopefully this fun story will encourage us all to appreciate our librarians!

There's also a fun twist at the end of the story when the children decide to tell their teacher about the alpaca librarian...

It's a funny story, moreover you can learn about Alpacas in the form of Librarians. Nope, not recommended. Your library won't be as quiet as you expected, and the books won't be as easy to find. And more facts on alpacas that made them terrible to have in a library.

The children learn that while alpacas may be good with children, they are not great at being librarians. With colorful and eye-catching illustrations, humourous antics, mild potty humor, and the children learning how to navigate an alpaca's temperament, Alpacas Make Terrible Librarians will make for a fun read-aloud.

Imagine walking into your school library to find an alpaca instead of your librarian. In Alpacas Make Terrible Librarians by Kristi Mahoney, there is an alpaca in the school library. Unfortunately, the alpaca is not a very good librarian. First of all, the alpaca removed all of the books about other animals from the library. Also, alpacas are very loud. They just do not make very good librarians!

Children will enjoy this humorous story that is filled with colorful illustrations created by Chantelle and Burgen Thorne. Alpacas Make Terrible Librarians would be a great read for a story time. You could pair this book up with The Librarian from the Black Lagoon by Mike Thaler.

"Alpacas Make Terrible Librarians" by Kristi Mahoney had my kids laughing out loud from start to finish. Who would've thought that alpacas could be so bad at organizing books? The chaos that ensues is both hilarious and heartwarming. If you're in need of a good chuckle and a dose of alpaca antics, this book is a must-read! Trust me, you won't look at alpacas or librarians the same way again after this delightful and quirky read!

This story made me laugh out loud. I love alpacas, but I do agree that they make terrible librarians. This story is absolutely delightful as I had fun with all the sound effects.

As a elementary librarian, I was drawn in by the title and cover illustration. But the story lost me. Why is the alpaca there? Is this intended mostly as light nonfiction, where you learn about alpacas in a humorous may? If so, there were not enough alpaca facts. The story didn't flow, mostly I think because the narrator wasn't telling a story. I imagine that the author was somewhat emulating Laura Numeroff? It would have been more compelling if the narrator told the story not as a cautionary tale, but through the experience of one or more of the library patrons.

I read this cute book. The illustrations are spectacular! So bright and colorful. The children's hair are not traditional colors, so may help children to not be surprised to see a real person with blue hair, or purple hair. Also might encourage them to think outside the box when creating their own art. There are many alpaca facts in this book, do not confuse an alpaca and a llama, you'll offend one of them. The alpaca librarian tries to ban books, but the children do try to keep the banned book materials. This book shows that we should appreciate our librarians for sure. I know I do! Thanks to Netgalley and Gnome Road Publishing for the opportunity to review this book. I enjoyed it. #AlpacasMakeTerribleLibrariansHumorLibraries #NetGalley

Alpacas Make Terrible Librarians is an entertaining children's book about a librarian who is unexpectedly replaced by an Alpaca. The children are confused by the alpaca's reactions and in the process learn a lot about alpacas and why they make "terrible librarians." This story leaves readers with a greater appreciation for librarians. I recommend this book for any elementary school library.
