This book starts out like a memoir and ends as a self-help book. Gottleib's philosophy seems very much inspired by Taoism and the principles of finding and following the flow instead of trying to force a path that isn't for you.
I thought Gottleib's stories and tips for recognizing your flow-state were helpful and relatable. I know some reviewers had concerns about the structure and organization of the book but it didn't bother me. There were some instances where it felt a little repetitive but I still found the content to be useful.
I appreciate NetGalley and the publisher for access to a digital ARC. My honest review is my own opinion.
I read this book trying to listen to my body and quiet the mind at the same time. I'm at the beginning of the road when in comes to listening to my intuition, but I am slowly making progress.
I had trouble getting into this one. Some of the content was repetitive and all over the place but it did have some good points.
A fabulous book on how to get out of the limiting stories of our thoughts and trust our inner voice. The author shares stories of her own life and of how these concepts and suggestions apply to every day life. Thank you to Netgalley, the author, and the publisher for allowing me to read and review.
Firstly, I would like to extend my gratitude to Debbie Gottlieb, Savio Republic and NetGalley for providing me with an advanced reader copy (ARC) in exchange for an honest review.
As promised Gottlieb offers valuable insight, guidance and technique in this much needed guide to trusting one's inner voice. My favourite parts by far were the excerises - practical and thoughtfully crafted, Gottlieb's expertise shone through in these segments and I really found some helpful, grounding techniques.
However, I must admit that a lot of the goodness in this book was drowned by the overall structure and flow. There were instances where the content felt repetitive, and choosing to add as anecdotal segments leading into new ideas, while understandable for some segments, made it a less digestible read. I often found myself coming out of book in those segments and because they weren't told chronologically, it was hard to get the overall picture or really even understand the structure of the book. Topics would be mentioned in one chapter and then introduced a few chapters later as entirely separate segments, which made it feel like the book had been written in chunks. I wished for a more cohesive outline.
Overall I appreciated the insight and expertise offered by Gottlieb, however due to the structure and flow of this book I cannot rate this any higher than 3 stars. I would still recommend it to anyone looking for practical tools on how to start listening to and relying on their inner voice. Despite its shortcomings, Gottlieb undeniably has insight and shares some valuable information in this book.
As soon as I started reading this book I felt like it was written about me and for me. The experiences that the author shared, especially from her childhood were scenes from my life. I understand so much better why I always feel so disconnected and in my head. I put myself there! Now I know how to get out and it's easier that we think. The author gives us easy guidance to start now and you will see and feel a difference. The book is well written and moves along at a nice pace. There are some practices to try but nothing crazy or time consuming. If you want a better understanding of why you are the way you are and how to reconnect with your soul purpose, this is the book for you. I will surely take the author's advice and read it again. Thank you netgalley and Post Hill Press for allowing me to read and review this great book.
Sone great nuggets in this, and some wonderful reminders. Unlike other self help/spiritual books, Debbie isn’t necessarily prescribing anything which is refreshing. A bit repetitive in some areas, but can be easily resolved. Definitely benefited from the pearls I of wisdom and reminders throughout.
