The PLAN by Kendra Adachi:
I love Kendra and live by many of her Lazy Genius principles, so I was stoked to get my hands on an early copy of this before it came out in October. I started it very gung-ho and then stalled hard. It was repetitive at times but, ultimately, a wildly compassionate book about time management. Some of the pep talks at the end had me in actual tears imagining Kendra was talking directly to me and my struggle to do it all.

I think it would work better as a reference guide than to be read like a novel – I know I’ll return to it many times for guidance and a supportive pep talk when I get muddled and forget to focus on what matters.

The Lazy Genius delivers again simple ways that can organize and focus the endless mind chatter and mental load that women face day to day in families, career, and oftentimes, both.

Kendra Adachi is the best friend we all deserve. She sees you and gives it to you straight while also treating you with grace and kindness. I discovered Kendra through her first book, The Lazy Genius Way, and truly found her to be a genius at providing self-help advice that actually helps. I implemented many of her 13 Lazy Genius principles into my own life, and subsequently found myself spending more time on the things that matter, and less time on the things that don't. As a whole, my life functions better, thanks to Kendra!

But, such is life that there's always room for improvement. Therefore, when I learned that Kendra had written a new self-help book, The PLAN, I was eager to pick it up. Aptly titled, The PLAN is definitely a book for all of the planners out there. Anyone who loves to have actionable steps to achieve a goal will glean something from this book.

The letters in The PLAN stand for prepare, live, adjust, and notice, and are steps readers can take to live better in whatever season they are in. While Kendra stresses throughout this book that you do not need to create elaborate systems to get things done, I did find the number of systems and strategies provided in this book in relation to the PLAN to be a bit overwhelming and difficult to follow. I listened to this title as an audiobook, and while I greatly loved and appreciated being "spoken to" by Kendra herself (she truly comes across like your BFF), I do think that this book is better digested in small doses through the written word. Kendra herself suggests that you jump around in the book and pick and choose what works for you in your current season, and I absolutely agree with her because the amount of good advice provided in this book is staggering.

Plans aside, Kendra's The PLAN is also therapy, giving women permission to take up space and stand in their truth. She acknowledges the unique struggles and circumstances that women face, and helps them work through them with kindness and compassion.

If you are new to Kendra, check out The Lazy Genius Way first. Those who are already familiar with The Lazy Genius Way and who want to build upon Kendra's principles, are encouraged to do so with The PLAN.

I finished The Lazy Genius Way earlier this year and it came at the right time. The Plan was the perfect follow up for me as I’m trying to navigate how I plan and organize because my life has changed (in good ways), but how I get things done cannot be done in the same way I’ve always done. It’s been a good adjustment and The Plan gave me some direction on how to make the changes wisely.

Empowering, fun, and really helpful! The lazy genius method appeals to me (and maybe everyone I know) as we hold on during these busy days of life! I found the hacks and tips helpful to boost my productivity during overwhelm. What made this book different, in my opinion, was the realistic approach it took. I love other books in this tone, but I felt their tips and advice would slip out of my hands during really busy and stressful seasons. This book felt more usable and realistic.

Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Like Kendra Adachi’s other books, The Plan is a book I can see myself going back to again and again. There are a lot of nuggets of wisdom in here. I found surprisingly fresh takes on the productivity industry and the unique challenges that women face in orchestrating all the things.

Kendra Adachi brings warmth and practicality to The PLAN, offering a refreshing and approachable guide to organizing your life without the overwhelm. Adachi’s advice feels like chatting with a wise friend—encouraging, realistic, and deeply relatable. She focuses on creating a plan that works for you, rather than forcing you into rigid systems, which makes it feel empowering rather than prescriptive. It’s a quick read packed with actionable tips, perfect for anyone looking to bring more intention and clarity to their daily routine.

What a relief to have this kind of book offer hope.

A fast paced self help book with bite size chapters , which I appreciate in these types of books. The concept of seasons of life was quite interesting.

My main complaint is that the does get a bit repetitive at times, with many concepts and lists.

The premise of this book makes sense to me… that time management systems have been predominantly prepared by men for men. The rest of the book just missed the mark.

You really can’t say that your book is written for every woman and have the entire story revolve around parenting young children.

You also can’t claim to be inclusive when you sing praises to Jesus. To me that in itself recategorizes this book into a Christian self-help book.

I didn’t quite love this as much as the original Lazy Genius book, but I still love Kendra’s voice and like to pretend she’s my slightly older big sister. Because I read this as a digital copy, I got confused by some of the acronyms. I recommend buying a physical copy instead. I did really enjoy how she helped organize productivity based on a woman’s cycle. The quick pep talk chapters at the end were really lovely too.

I've read a lot of productivity and time management books over the years and I have to say, The Plan, by far is the best one out there. Kendra Adachi has crafted a book and an approach to managing time that is a breath of fresh air. Her approach is easily adaptable, is designed to work with you, not have you work for it, and is simple to integrate into your life. There's no complex system with a multitude of steps to follow. Instead the reader is introduced to a flexible process that allows you to choose how you're spending your time each day. It allows you to get things done, but also gives you the freedom to change things up without making you feel like it will all fall apart if you do. Anyone who is trying to better their time management skills or who just needs a little guidance when it comes to how to plan their time, needs to read this book. It will change you life.

This book is wise, practical, and gracious. I found Adachi's ideas and philosophy on time management to be accessible and easy to implement. The writing is solid and Adachi comes across as a friendly guide to rethinking how you structure your life. I enjoyed reading it in small chunks, not finding it necessary to read the whole thing cover to cover. It's easy to pick up and find a helpful tidbit.

This was a helpful read for a brain that feels scattered. Kendra's approach honors you as a nuanced person whose needs are vast and ever changing. She helps you find direction in ways that are unique to you. This books fills a void in the productivity sphere.

I’ve been a Kendra fan for a long time and this might be her best book yet. Grateful that the Lazy Genius principles continue to evolve and impact so many families.

A feminist take on time management and planning and how to lessen the load that ends up on women's laps at work and home Some interesting ideas here. There is a chapter on the menstrual cycle that does not fit anymore with my life stage but interesting concept. There were some tidbits in here I can put into action.

Thank you to Netgalley and Convergent Books for an ARC and I voluntarily left this review.

The Plan offers an insightful and deeply personal approach to personal planning specifically tailored for women. What sets this work apart is its unique blend of practical advice and psychological understanding, providing readers with more than just a standard self-help manual. The author skillfully deconstructs common thought patterns, offering a compassionate and strategic approach.
The writing feels supportive, presenting guidance that reads like advice from a trusted mentor who genuinely believes in the reader's potential. Each tip and strategy is carefully crafted to be not just theoretical, but immediately actionable. Unlike many planning guides that can feel abstract or disconnected, this book excels in providing concrete, implementable processes that readers can integrate into their lives with clarity and confidence.
One of the book's greatest strengths is its empathetic tone. The advice comes across with a sense of collaboration between the author and reader. Kendra demonstrates a nuanced understanding of the female psychological barriers that often impede women's personal and professional planning, offering insights that are both enlightening and transformative.

The tone felt condescending at times, and overwhelmingly negative. I'm not really sure who this book was written for, and I didn't find enough tips and tricks to take away to make it feel worth it.
