Inconceivable, a new memoir by Alexandra Collier, tells the story of Ally’s journey to single motherhood. After a break up in her late 30s (because he didn’t want kids), Ally had to grapple with her deep desire to have kids: should she wait out the biological clock waiting for love or try and have a baby on her own? This memoir is filled with emotional honesty about the struggles and insecurities about finding her way to motherhood, and will make any woman who has felt the pressure of having a baby “in time” feel seen.

Inconceivable is an important story for anyone considering having children later in life. The author raises many poignant points about what it means to be a single person in a world built for couples and how that impacts the choice to become a parent. I think this book would be a great jumping off point for further discussions, such as raising donor-conceived children, singlehood, and the necessity of having a "village" of loved ones.

The author has an enjoyable writing style and voice. It's clear she is a talented writer outside of this project. I appreciated the research and interviews she cited, but they seemed to only be at the beginning and end of the book. I wish they had been throughout or not included at all. I also wish there was closure around her relationship with Buddy, even if it was just personal reflection.

Such an interesting book about a subject we are all just beginning--thankfully--to be open about--something that so many in our world go through. I appreciate the writer's honesty and unflinching look at her experience here.

I really enjoy reading memoirs about building families. I was so pleased with this book about the author’s journey to becoming a mom. It was inspiring and hopeful. Her writing style was excellent and easily drew me into the story. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. Five stars.
