Les Masques Ball is the event of the season in New Orleans, but last year wild child Margot Landry was found dead after her reign as queen of the ball. This year’s queen, Lily LeBlanc is the complete opposite, and everything is going smoothly until the ball is hijacked by a mysterious figure in a Jester costume. Three debutantes with little in common to investigate Margot’s death and the dark things brewing under the surface of their world. They’ll have to uncover the monsters before another debutante ends up dead.
This was a perfectly fine, YA thriller. Twists and turns. Good characterization. I didn’t love it, but it was entertaining, and if you’re into the genre, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Set against the background of the elite Les Masques Ball in New Orleans, The Debutantes tells the story of three debs trying to survive and find out what happened to their queen. When a man dressed up as a Jester starts following them, they know that they are just as in trouble.
I loved the NOLA setting and debutante storyline but I didn't feel like the girls were distinctive enough to tell them apart.

3.5 stars, rounded up to 4.
This was my second read of Olivia Worley. She's definitely an author I will continue reading as her books are enjoyable and keep my attention. The Debutantes did not let me down in this way. I enjoyed the book from the start and wanted to keep reading.
While I enjoyed the overall story, it didn't wow me. There are a lot of characters and moving parts, and I guessed pretty much all of the twists.
I'd recommend this book if you are looking for a quick easy read.

This was an exciting thriller. I thoroughly enjoyed the debutantes and how that high society was woven into the mysteries throughout, I haven’t read anything by this author before, but I look forward to reading anything else by her. Overall, I highly recommend this book.

This was a really good story. I was pleasantly surprised by the twists and turns and trying to figure out what would happen. I love when a book keeps me thinking like this one did.

Thank you Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book. These opinions are completely my own.
I love this genre of YA novels. The twist and turns mixed with the high school drama and personalities make a very fun time for the readers. Perfect for the cold days of winners

I was not a fan of this. All of the POVs sounded the same, it was hard to tell who was who. The main characters were also very unlikable.

I don't always go for YA books, but I am glad I pursued this one. "The Debutantes" follows the perspectives of multiple debutantes discovering some hidden truths of the "debutante world". The comparisons to Pretty Little Liars are the best comparisons, and I highly enjoyed the storyline (and plot twist) in the book.

A twisting popcorn thriller with a picturesque setting, The Debutantes is a perfect quick read for fans of Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars!

I thought this was a fun read. I liked the New Orleans setting and thought this was interesting and compelling. The characters didn't really stand out to me and I found it kind of hard to keep track of each different girl. Overall I enjoyed this and would reccommend.

From the first couple of chapters, this book sucked me in and I found it hard to put it down. I love a good thriller, and I have been finding myself searching for new ones to devour more recently. I especially love stories where I can’t guess the plot twist coming, and this story succeeded in keeping me guessing from the start. The world building was immersive, and I can’t wait to read the next work by Olivia Worley.

I was surprised how much I enjoyed this. It did take me a bit to get all the povs straight but I did I was sucked in. I really liked the New Orleans setting! The pacing was great - I never felt bored or like the story was dragging.
If you enjoyed The Counselor by Jessica Goodman and/or Pretty Little Liars you’d probably like this. The jester definitely gives off “A” vibes.

A lot of teen mysteries miss the mark but Worley did such a fantastic job. The teens talk like teens, the dialogue doesn't feel forced and the pacing really kept me on the edge of my seat!

I absolutely love Olivia Worley, and her first book was one of my faves, so I was very excited to see she had a new book out.
The best part of this book was the setting--it was so obvious this was a love letter to New Orleans, and that shone through on every page. The characters were real and complex, the mystery was compelling, and the pacing was perfect. I'd recommend it to anyone who loves mystery, New Orleans, and anything Mardi Gras themed!

This was a YA book that I read so quickly - finished in less than 24 hours. Full of mystery and thrill, it took me on a roller coaster.
Based in New Orleans during the debutante season, you realize that things aren’t as they seem. With one debutante that passed the year before, and another missing this year, three of the debutante’s are pushed together to find out what is lurking beneath what appears to be a shiny world.
This was such a fun thrill. I just loved following along, and was so shocked throughout. All of the twists and turns just surprised me, and I was excited to keep seeing what would happen next.
This is a perfect book for you if you like a book with unexpected twists and a surprising ending. A great YA mystery.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book, received from the publisher and author through NetGalley. However, all thoughts and views reflected are strictly my own opinions.

This was a pretty fun and clever YA thriller! However, it did take me a while to actually get into the book. There are quite a few characters with three POVs, so it can be quite confusing to follow at times.
I loved the New Orleans setting, and it was perfect for this story! It was also so interesting to learn about the debutante culture, as it’s not something I am familiar with as a Canadian.
This book was full of twists and turns, though it was predictable at times, and it will have you hooked trying to put the pieces together.
Overall, this is a great read if you like Pretty Little Liars or Holly Jackson novels!

This was a fun read!
I loved Olivia Worley's debut novel, and have been excited for this one. It was incredibly atmospheric, vibey, and downright chilling at times. I never felt entirely sure who I should be suspicious of, but I also wasn't as shocked by the twists as I wanted to be. This was fun and enjoyable, but not a story I'll have living rent free in my mind!

I really thought this book was going to be a home run for me buuuut overall it fell flat. I found myself getting confused with all of the jumping around and it just did not live up to the hype that I had built up for it.

To be honest this was a DNF for myself. I don’t mind a YA but I felt like this teetered a line of could be adult due to some themes but it just wasn’t for me. It was well written though

I thought this was going to be a solid 3.5, but I'm rounding it up to 4 based on the twisty ending.
I liked the New Orleans setting and the ominous "things never stay buried in this city" that was referenced throughout. This is a solid YA thriller that I think fans of Holly Jackson and Karen McManus would enjoy. It also had some cult vibes which I wasn't expecting!
My only real beef with this book was that it was a slow read for me and it was hard to keep the characters straight (but that could be a me problem)
Overall, I enjoyed and I'd read this author again!
