This book was banana's! It takes up space in a very crowded dystopian YA genre, but it is well written. I will admit I side eyed that name a little bit but the plot is solid so it ends up just being an amusing anecdote. It was intriguing to read of Kitty's choices, there could have been more description in regards to the setting. I know its supposed to be dystopian but there aren't really any descriptions of how rundown things are, etc. But like I said the actual plot with Kitty stepping into Lila's shoes was solid. 3 out of 5 stars.

"As a IV, I could have counted on reaching sixty. Now, as a III, I would be lucky to hit forty. If I wasn't careful, I would also be out on the streets begging for more than the government had decided I was worth."

Kitty Doe is screwed. The one test that could have taken her away from her miserable life in the foster care system only served to seal her fate as a nobody. Now that she is a III her chances are slim and a life of hard work and suffering is ahead of her. She will be transported unto another city in order to do her work, which means she wont be able to spend her life with the love of her life, Benjy. Just as she is about to lose herself Kitty encounters the opportunity of a lifetime. If she is willing to take over the identity of Lila Hart and fool those around her, like Lila Hart's followers, Kitty could be a VII which means a life of luxury. Things aren't as easy as they seem however. Lila was behind a secret rebellious group named The Blackcoats, and they want to bring the current government down. Kitty is to help the current government bring down the rebellion, help the ones who screwed her life. Will she be strong enough to stand up agaisn't them?

How I miss a good dystopian! This was released during the golden age, Hunger Games, Divergent, Etc. For its time it was fast paced and interesting. Kitty is engaging and likable, the plot can actually keep you at the edge of your seat. I liked Aimee Carter's The Goddess Test, and I liked this one too.

The first half of the book was so engrossing and entertaining, I was hooked and the second half was very enjoyable. I liked the characters and the world building. There were so many twists and turns it gave me whiplash. I liked this one much more than her Goddess Test book.

Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin TEEN for this E-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

In this dystopian society, you are tested when you turn 17 and are only as good as your number - anything below a IV and your life is going to be difficult, relegated to menial tasks and unable to progress above your station. The highest number you can get is a VII, but nobody but the uber-powerful Hart family ranks this high. When Kitty Doe tests at a level III, she's reeling, and when she is offered the chance to become a VII, she jumps at it without knowing exactly what she will have to do to earn it, which she will quickly regret.

I really enjoyed this book and its unique story. The characters were likeable, and the world building was phenomenal, as is always the case with Ms. Carter's books.

I liked this book enough that I'm looking forward to continuing with the series.

4/5 stars.

Overall, it is a cute story that had its own charm which I genuinely enjoyed, but this one won’t be a love for a lifetime book.

It's hard to start another series from an author whose first series you enjoyed immensely. But I wasn't in any way disappointed. The pacing was great and I felt connected with the characters.

I definitely enjoyed it. Carter's writing is simple and easy to read and the characters are likeable enough. Some plot twists were predictable, some weren't (Elsewhere, anyone?), but it was enough for me to really enjoy myself.

This book was requested when I was young and requested more books than I could possibly read. Sadly, I no longer have access to this book and my tastes have changed. Thus I will not be able to give feedback on this title.

This book had so much potential, but I didn't like the main character. I get she's a "pawn", but maybe show some decision, just think it trough before doing something you make regret in the future.

It was, neerthless, a book for its time. It was an entretaining read, but not enough to make me want to pick the next two books.

I was really excited for this book. So excited that I wanted to make myself love it. Sadly it turned out to just be meh for me. There were parts that I liked, like Kitty and Knox for instance. But then there were parts that just fell flat and felt like all other dystopian books. Honestly at times I felt like I was reading Legend by Marie Lu and Eve by Anna Carey all mixed in one book and that made me sad. I guess the thing is is that I just wanted more.

The book had a great concept, and I loved Aimee Carter's Goddess series, but I really had mixed feelings about the main character. She didn't convince me enough for me to be with her in her journey, but I still loved Carter's worldbuilding and writing.

Interesting premise but wasn't enough to hold my interest. I got in a few pages but sadly it wasn't what I was expecting so I had to put it down. I might not be the right audience for this one.

Another amazing book by author Aimee Carter! I don't think I've read one that I didn't love. I don't want to post any spoilers but the storyline of this book caught me off guard but in a great way. I didn't see any of it coming.
