Worst Case Scenario by T.J. Newman
Publisher: Little, Brown and Company
Genre: General Fiction (Adult)
Published: August 13, 2024
Worst Case Scenario is a standalone novel by T.J. Newman. This is the first book I’ve read by the author and I’m sure it won’t be the last.
Wow! This book is insanely good! This story was fast paced and had me on edge! It was so intense, and I was afraid to reach the end. But I’m so glad I did!!! WOW!!!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Wow! Big Wow! This book hooks you from the very first page. Every page is action packed with no extra words. Beyond horrific in both the premise and presentation, the book reads like a train wreck you can’t turn your eyes away from.. A must read of a thriller that brought me to tears.

This was my first book from this author and I was blown away! This story had me on the edge of my seat with adrenaline and anticipation. I also cried a few times. The characters felt so real and likable. I cared about every single one of them.
If you love disaster movies then you will love this book. I can't wait to read more from this author.

Wow! What a ride! TJ Newman has done it again with another gripping, edge of your seat and very emotional must-read. Newman created characters that the reader really connects with and cares about and like the author’s previous book DROWNING I was an emotional wreck right up to the last few chapters.
I both read and listened to the audiobook version of Worst Case Scenario, making the experience all the more immersive. Definitely recommend!
For those who love thrillers: read Worst Case Scenario! Thanks to Little, Brown and Company for providing me with an advance reader's copy via NetGalley! After starting it, I just knew I needed a physical copy for a future reread.

Oh man. When I got this approved for eARC 4 days before takeoff, I thought to myself: “am I deranged or just plain sadistic id I read this 37,000 feet in the air? Turns out both, but it was just perfect timing and I couldn’t resist.
First off FU TJ!! (Respectfully) for page 83, and 121, and like 6 other occasions where I was sobbing in economy class on the plane yesterday. The first airplane thriller adventures in Falling and Drowning were edge of your seat wild. But yesterday I went through an entire pack of Spider-Man branded tissues on my flight back from Tampa reading Worst Case Scenario. It was a full flight, and yes people were staring. Worst Case Scenario is emotionally heart wrenching. Without giving too much away, the third masterpiece from TJN begins as a commercial airline with 295 souls aboard nosedives in to a nuclear power plant when the pilot unsuspectingly suffers a heart attack. The crew struggles to counterattack the damage done to help save them in time.
Meanwhile below the unsuspecting tiny town of Waketa, Minnesota, bands together to save - well the world, from a catastrophic potentially endgame for human kind, the likes of which makes Chernobyl look like a nuclear paper cut. In the midst of the chaos, we meet a little boy named Connor whom for one team of firefighters becomes just as important to save when his family’s minivan meets the wrong end of one of airplane wings. The multiple point of view chapters introduce multiple other families, the President and his team, the power plant workers, and follows them through the calamity that ensues. Tj Newman as an author, has this uncanny talent of taking your worst fears and illustrating them in black and white in the most intricately traumatizing way. I cannot wait to see what she writes next to keep me up at night.
5 ⭐️ (Duh!)

The author, a former flight attendant, has delivered another heart-stopping thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat!
The pilot suffers a heart attack, while the co-pilot is trapped in the lavatory. The plane crashes, causing the inevitable death and mayhem. But the worst possible scenario? A nuclear power plant is hit by the debris. It’s damaged and they have 16 hours until a catastrophe with global implications.
Each chapter is a countdown to disaster
What sets this book apart from other disaster novels are the human stories. We get to know not only the major players in the race against the clock to save the planet from disaster, we get the backstories of all involved.
When the worst-case scenario happens, the result is the best of humanity steps up. This is the story not just of disaster but a story of everyday heroes which showcases the best of humanity. The bravery and the sacrifices made are touching and emotional.
The CB radio transmissions added an element of authenticity to the narrative and kept me on the edge of my seat. The tension was palpable and I flew through this one in little more than one day.

I don’t know how each book keeps getting more suspenseful, but you won’t be able to put it down. Unbelievably scary, inspiring, and wholly readable. Outstanding!

I had such a hard time putting this book down! I've read all three books by this author, and this one is my favorite! There was non-stop action from the very first page, and I loved reading about all the brave and heroic actions taken by these characters. There were so many heart-wrenching moments, but those pulled me even deeper into the story. I could easily see this one being made into a movie!
This one comes out in one week, so make sure to grab a copy!
Thank you, @netgalley and @littlebrown, for the #gifted e-arc of this book!

Newman's books are so action packed that I feel like I'm watching an action movie when reading. This one did not disappoint. I loved the characters and were rooting for them all along. I like how there is not a "bad guy" or villain in human form. They were racing against the clock to save the world. I learned a lot about nuclear power plants and am now a bit worried that this might happen in real life. :) Looking forward to the next blockbuster from this favorite author! And why aren't all of her books movies yet?!

Yep, it was another edge of your seat (or couch or bed 😜) thriller that I devoured in one day!
I could not put it down so make sure you have time dedicated to read it because you won’t want to stop. 🛑
This just released last week and I think it’s my favorite of hers so far. While each story has you feeling all kinds of emotions, this one will pull on your heartstrings.
The devastation of a plane crash, especially in a small town with a nuclear power plant at the center of a community, will see how people have the resolve to cope and handle situations they never could have imagined.
Totally a 5⭐️read for me. Add it to your tbr immediately!
Thank you @littlebrown and @netgalley for this ARC

Another hit out of the park (Is that the metaphor? I’m not a sports person.)
When I first heard the synopsis (passenger plane crashes into nuclear power plant), I assumed I knew the way this story would go.
But I was wrong. With lots of twists and turns and not-quite endings, this book was un-put-down-able and had my body tense the entire time. Just enough information about nuclear power and power plants to keep me understanding the story but not enough to be boring or overload the brain.
Great characters. If I was someone who cried at the end of books (and let’s be honest, I usually am), I would have cried when the best character makes the ultimate sacrifice.
Overall-great book to add to the collection.

I’ve been an early reader of TJ since the very first book although this time around it was much more difficult to get my hands on an early copy due to the change in publisher and her immense growth in popularity.
You can always count on TJ for high-octane, heart-pounding, anxiety-inducing suspense plots featuring airplanes and our worst nightmares. I love that she draws her inspiration and knowledge from a career as a flight attendant. I found it fascinating from her author’s note that she specifically dreamt up this plot after a conversation with a pilot about their worst flight related fears, hence the title “Worst Case Scenario.”
In TJ’s third book, a commercial pilot suffers from a widow maker heart attack 35,000 feet in the air with a full flight, unfortunately causing the plane to crash to pieces around the small rural town of Waketa, Minnesota. Parts of the plane strike the town’s partially decommissioned nuclear power plant, threatening a potential nuclear disaster the rest of the world can only watch with held breaths to see what the small town’s plant workers and emergency responders do to work together and try to solve this terrifying life-threatening situation.
I did enjoy this book and it was entertaining, but I personally had to take it in bite-sizes pieces. I felt it was more graphic, heart-wrenching, and had more of a pervasive hopeless feeling throughout than her past books where I felt had more hope to hang on to despite the circumstances. I did like the ending.
Thank you so much to LB&C, Novel Suspects, TJ, NetGalley for the e-galley!

The action starts immediately and doesn't relent. I loved it! And I cried actual tears, which very rarely happens to me when reading a book. T.J. Newman doesn't disappoint .

In her latest book, TJ Newman delivers an intense, fast-paced experience from start to finish - which is a VERY common theme if you've read her earlier works. This one is a little different and was written to be more than just a disaster story, it explores themes of community, family, and the difficult choices people must make for the greater good. The plot is packed with high stakes and relentless action, making it a book you’ll want to devour in one sitting, maybe just not before your next flight!
While the pacing and tension are amazing, the large cast of characters can be overwhelming, and their backstories are somewhat lacking, making it hard to connect with them fully. This book doesn't take my top pick compared to her older reads, but it’s a highly engaging read that showcases Newman's talent for creating gripping scenarios. This was published earlier this month, and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves disaster reads.

Worst Case Scenario kept me up all night. It is a blazingly fast read. The plot is simple. Airplane crashes into a nuclear power plant in Minnesota. The residents of the small town in which the plant is located band together to save the town...and the country and the world from extinction. There are heroes and selfless sacrifice. It is a great read. Just don't read it in the plane you are riding in after you have bought the book in the airport book store!!!

T.J. Newman, you've done it again. What an exciting, fast paced thriller that feels both far-fetched and totally believable. This book felt like a love letter to small towns and pulled on my heartstrings.
T.J. Newman is the master of plane thrillers, but this time the book focuses on what happens when a plane crashes into a nuclear power plant. There's a race to save mankind as the threat of nuclear waste may harm the entire country's water supply. Can this small town band together to save everyone?
This book was a tearjerker. I felt all the feels for this small town as they worked together to contain this situation. There were so many stories that I enjoyed following, although at times it felt like 1-2 too many. This is a fast paced read that you won't want to put down. Another hit for me and I'll continue to read whatever Newman comes up with next.
Thank you to Little, Brown and Company and NetGalley for the advanced e-book in exchange for my honest review.

T.J. Newman is back with another heart-pounding story. If you are familiar with her other work (Falling and Drowning), you will understand the level of action to expect in this book. (It’s high!)
One thing I love about Newman’s books is her ability to paint such a clear picture in your mind. Her books all play out like movies in my mind. This book was no exception. Worst Case Scenario was engrossing. I couldn’t wait to find out what would happen in each of the multiple story lines. I really liked all the characters. Newman also got me a time or two with some twists that I wasn’t expecting, which made the book even more exciting.
I shed some tears and celebrated with the characters along the way. Don’t skip this one (or any of her others!) I would definitely expect this story to have a film adaption eventually, just like the others. I can’t wait to see the movies! T.J. Newman is an automatic read author for me, 100%.

Thanks to NetGalley for providing an advance copy of Worst Case Scenario by TJ Newman in exchange for an honest review. Note: I started this book before publication but it’s out now so you can go get it!
TJ Newman’s latest plane crash disaster novel takes place over the course of one day when a jet flown by a pilot who has a massive heart attack at the controls crashes into a nuclear power plant. The race is on to keep a disaster on the scale of Chernobyl from happening in the US. Unlike Falling and Drowning, most of the action takes place outside the plane as the town, including the staff of the nuclear reactor, first responders and ordinary citizens try and beat the clock.
While Worst Case Scenario didn’t grab me in the same way as its predecessors, it was still a solid, fast-paced thriller that left me with lots of questions about the pros and cons of nuclear power. Four stars.

I have enjoyed T.J. Newman's previous books, and this one is very readable and action-packed. The premise of a large jet airplane crashing into a nuclear power plant is a very scary scenario, so I was interested to see how the author handled the story. My husband worked many years in the nuclear power industry, and I was impressed at the level of detail Ms. Newman included in the novel. The characters were interesting and the various storylines all worked well as a whole. A good vacation read.

This is one of the most gripping stories I have read in recent memory, it really kept me flipping pages to find out what happened. A pilot on a commercial airplane has a widow maker heart attack at 35, 000 feet, the first officer is in the washroom when this happens and because the pilot slumped over the controls the airplane is in a steep dive and soon crashes, some of it hitting a nuclear power plant. The plant is an aging facility that has been in the process of permanently shutting down, staff is limited and some of the plant is non operational. The story unfolds from multiple view points, from the people in the plant, White House staff including the President who try to help as much as they can, rescue personnel who are dealing with parts of the plane that have landed in other areas, including on a bridge where the wing has hit a minivan containing four people, the parents and 2 children, the wife and daughter die on impact, the van is half off the bridge dangling over a rushing river, the wing is on fire and the fire crew that happened upon this accident while trying to get to the plant are trying to put the fire out and think how to save the 2 souls (this scene in particular was very intense). At the plant they quickly realize that the reactor will soon go into meltdown and the plant will blow if certain things aren't done to stop it, that where the countdown clock at the beginning of each chapter appears to tell you they are rapidly running out of time. Overall a very good book, one I would very much recommend. Thanks to #Netgalley and #Little Brown for the ARC.
