I believe that this book is not only great for children with facial differences, but also for kids with special needs, and any children possibly at the age of beginning a new school, a class with new students, so great for so many different situations. This book is a mix of a social story and mindfulness which I thought was a fantastic mix.

It encourages the child to think and process some things that may have happened to them, or things they may have witnessed happening. A lot of positivity and help themselves feel proud of themselves and open to discuss things that may be happening to them or around them.

Loved this book.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for an audio ARC of this book in exchange for this honest review.

This book is like a brief guide that will help kids with visible facial disabilities address their personal emotions and unexpected conversations about their appearance.
The words of affirmation and gentle language were key points, I valued that parents were included in the mental health conversation as they too need to regulate their emotions and health in order to raise their child the best way possible.

Beautiful.

This book is a brief guide that helps kids with visible disabilities address their personal emotions and unexpected conversations about their physical appearance. The steps advised to the little audience were taken by kids in real life who found them effective, especially effective with kids their age or younger that tend to be innocently curious about anything new to them. The words of affirmation and gentle language were key points, I valued that parents were included in the mental health conversation as they too need to regulate their emotions and health in order to raise their child the best way possible.

The narrator’s voice is sweet and heartwarming, which made this book even better.

I received a copy of this audiobook from netGalley for a honest review.

This audiobook is wonderful. It gives kids who are different (mostly by how their face looks for this book) multiple ways to cope with questions and stares. It would help them be brave and confident in themselves. The audiobook also has a great parent/caregiver section on how they can help kids understand being different and be prepared to deal with others as they grow up and have to deal with people. there is also help for siblings. I think this is a wonderful audiobook and would be helpful for a lot of people (anyone dealing with bullying really)

i listened to this via Audiobook and by far it’s one of the most informative children’s book that are not only good for children per se, it also contains messages and advices to parents on how they can continue to be their children’s guide in accepting their differences and other’s. it’s informative, yes, but the way it was written, it wasn’t like a research. it was informative but gentle.

thank you netgalley for this ARC! and kudos to the author for writing this 🤍

My Extraordinary Face was a great audiobook to listen to with my kiddo in the car and during nap time. I think this is great for kiddos from ages 2- 8 years. The audiobook's pace was at a great pace for young listeners to grasp onto. I really enjoyed the questions asked during the reading, and can see myself using these questions with my kiddo beyond the book. The book has great metaphors (bubbles) to explain large concepts like confidence. This book was short, sweet, and simple to help kids stand up to bullies/ being made fun of because of our differences. This is also a great book to help kiddos learn that other people may look different from them, and if they ever see someone being made fun of, they can stand up to it for others who may not be confident.

The author's note to caregivers was a great guide to help parents address their children in a healthy manner that will help the child grow up confident.

I highly recommend this book for others to dig in. Great for at home and at school.

This was a wonderful book for children and all humans alike. We have all had body image issues or things about us we don’t like and this book has a great message that no matter what differences we may have by birth or life experience, it doesn’t change who we are as people. We need to remember this about ourselves and others

Although this is for kids, I can really relate to this. The book gives great tips for kids and I love the way it’s directed to children and parents.

Thank you Netgalley and special thanks to dreamscape media and mayo clinic press for bringing such innovative books as my extraordinary face.

It is a gentle story told through the lens of children having different facial spectral differences like vitiligo, port wine stain, Treacher Collins Syndrome, and cleft palate. The narrator has done a wonderful job and her voice is quite soothing which suits the overall tone of the book.

This book will help children understand that their facial features make them different but they are just the same. This will help them on a path of self realisation and acceptance. It can be hard getting bullied for something you are born with but sometimes it is not just bullying but curiosity that leads to uncomfortable stares and questions. This book provides simple solution to such cases.

My kid is still quite young to listen to this but I will definitely get this for my husband's nephew. He has vitiligo and he is been struggling at school and among the nosy relatives and neighbours.

"Every face is special. Your face is one of a kind. We show emotions, We smile, we laugh, we are calm, we are surprised. No one's face is ordinary."

Thanks once again to dreamscape media and writers & publishers for the wonderful audiobook.
