The Boyfriend by Freida McFadden was kind of blah for me. I had a hard time liking or relating to any of the characters and found them to be a bit unrealistic. As adults living in New York City apartments, there was very little talk of them actually going to work. The character "Kevin" played such a big part in the first half of the book, then seemed to drop off in the middle and then briefly returned for a few sentences towards the end.

Prolific Freida McFadden is back with another page turning psychological thriller set in New York City and full of crimes of passion.

Sydney Sheldon is a single woman living in New York City who at thirty-four is tired of online dating. While on a terrible date, Sydney fights off unwanted advances and is rescued by a handsome stranger. The stranger, a doctor named Tom Brewer, and Sydney begin to date and she thinks she’s found the perfect boyfriend. The brutal murder of a young woman sets the city on edge especially when it appears the murderer might be someone the woman dated. Sydney begins to question if her perfect man has his own secrets.

As the book progresses, the paranoia builds while every man Sydney or her friends have dated becomes a suspect. Sydney’s circle of friends and ex-boyfriends are described with realistic detail and the relationships are believable. The single dating scene in New York City becomes even scarier than real life. With unexpected twists, gory details and tension filled suspense, The Boyfriend is impossible to put down.

Thank you to NetGalley and Poison Pen Press for the advanced reader’s copy.

OMG I never guessed this book would end up like it did!!!!!!!!! I've seen some readers say that, they guessed it early on, or figured it out. I don't do that, when I'm reading a book I'm just in the story ya know. This book is so good with so many twists!!!!!!!!! Freida McFadden is the queen of thriller and suspense books.

Y’all I haven’t read a @fmcfaddenauthor in a few months. I was so excited to get an ARC of this one from @poisonedpenpress and @netgalley, thank you 😍. So I think I’ve said it before my mom is probably the biggest fan of this author and has just about every book. I can’t wait for her to finish so we can have a discussion. I will admit no matter how hard I try with these books to guess the outcome I’m completely wrong. This book was no different. This one would have been a 5⭐️for me but the ending really messed me up. The books told from the POVs of Sydeny the female lead and Tom the male lead. She is mid thirties and feeling the pressure most women do about motherhood and marriage. So she turns to the world of online dating. The whole plot is so believable it’s crazy. I have tried my hand at online dating and after this read I’m so happy I always drop my location to a friend. Sydney’s life is turn red upside down when she finds the body of her friend and neighbor. This quickly turns into a what done it. I was cheering for Dr.Mc hottie to not be a weirdo. 50 percent in I felt like his past was def going to haunt him I just never knew his urges and love sickness would conquer. This was a wild ride. I’m looking forward to the teacher next.

Another creepy thriller from Freida McFadden. In this book a young woman is rescued from a bad relationship by a man who seems to the the perfect boyfriend.
As time goes on a woman is murdered who had been dating via social media. The book grows creepier as it begins to seem as if this perfect boyfriend may be a killer,.

A page turner

This book is the perfect example of why I love Freida McFadden. Several times I thought I had everything figured out, just to find out I was way off. Her twists kept me on my toes the whole book.

In true form Freida McFadden did it again! Once you think you figured it out! Nope! There’s that twist at the end…and you wonder what just happened! Loved The Boyfriend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Boyfriend was the suspense book I was looking for after reading a few too many preachy--almost pompous in tone--books lately. Not this one! Every time I thought I had it figured out, something else popped in and redirected my suspicions. There were red herrings aplenty in this book. While the characters were nowhere near lovable, they were absolutely interesting and, at times, surprising. A good whodunnit that McFadden's fans will be sure to enjoy. The varying viewpoints from the narrators (Tom as a teenager and Sydney in the present) added to the suspense of the story and also was the perfect device to create so many of the great twists and turns.

First let me say I am a huge Freida fan ! I really enjoyed this book as a whole, it definitely kept me guessing the whole time- in standard Freida fashion. I was t a huge fan of the ending. The very end seems like it just dropped off and then there was nothing. Overall I would give it a 4/5 stars nice work Freida !

I typically enjoy Freida McFadden's books for a quick read and a juicy thriller. But, this one missed the mark for me. There was too much back and forth and coincidences for me to believe it.
There is, of course, a big twist, but I found it to be unreal.
Sydney doesn't have any luck dating. After a breakup with Jake, a cop, Sydney is using a dating app, but Kevin turns out to be creepy. He keeps turning up. A mystery man, later identified as Tom, comes to her rescue, and she feels an instant attraction. However, it isn't until much later that they become involved. But, Tom (told in alternating timelines), has a dark past and a girlfriend he can't get over. Sydney wonders if Tom is hiding secrets that would put her in danger.

I know, I know! I just talked crap about Freida’s writing and how I didn’t want to read another one of her books for awhile. But..I forgot that I pre-ordered The Boyfriend, and I also received the arc from NetGalley. So, here we are :).

Miss Sydney! I need your attention please. Friend, you didn’t see the similiarities between your boyfriend, and your friend’s boyfriend? You didn’t think anything was strange about Tom?

I have to admit, I did not see the final twist coming. I was so focused on the crappy men! Definitely one of Freida’s better books!

I was so excited to get an early copy of this book! Freida is by far my most read author and her plots are so unpredictable. For the first time, I thought I had this figured out very early BUT of course I was wrong. At no point did I see the twists coming in this book so bravo to Freida for once again fooling us all.
Sydney is desperate for love. She is 34 and thinks she will never find the one. For this reason, she is pretty dumb when it comes to “letting go” some big red flags with guys.
This was written in 2 POVS-Sydney in the present and Tom in the past. I always enjoy dual POVs.
I absolutely could not stand Slug or Randy. Both gave me major creep vibes but of course i dont find out until later that those creep vibes were for the wrong reasons.

The storyline felt a bit rushed towards the end but overall still a good read.

Thanks for the early access read. Always looking forward to another book that makes me say “WHAAAAT”.
