The Birds, The Bees, and the Elephant in the room is going to be a resource I will refer back to throughout my entire parenting journey. Mulholland does an incredible job explaining how to tackle these sensitive topics with our children in age appropriate ways. I love her breakdown of unconditional positive regard and how everything leads back to that as a foundation.

Children are naturally curious and constantly learning. If we (a safe adult) avoid answering our child’s question because the topic is “awkward” or “uncomfortable”, or we answer with judgement, then they will go to an unsafe source for the answer (classmates, friends, the internet). It is my job as a mother to keep my children safe and educated. This book is the perfect resource for parents with children of any age.

As a long term TikTok follower, I couldn't wait for this book's release. It did not disappoint. I wish this book has been in print for my own parents to read and for my entire generation. But it's available now, and this guide full of how to love and respect your child while teaching the truth about all the difficult conversations of love, consent, sex, and even online safety is a gem. The author proves that we can remove the stigmas of shame, immorality, and taboos from these important conversations that five out kids the tools to be informed humans that can set their own boundaries and trust their caregivers to be truthful and to remember what it's like to be a kid or teen. Building that honesty isn't just one conversation, but a million little ones. This is the best parenting handbook out there. It's real and honest and exactly what I would have wanted when I was getting "the talk".
