Alex Finlay's If Something Happens to Me is a gripping thriller that follows Ryan Richardson, who, five years after his girlfriend Ali's mysterious disappearance, is thrust back into the investigation when her car is discovered submerged in a lake with two bodies inside. As Ryan races across Europe to uncover the truth, he encounters unexpected allies and dangerous adversaries, all while confronting his own past. Finlay masterfully intertwines multiple perspectives, creating a suspenseful narrative filled with twists and turns that keep readers on the edge of their seats. If you're into fast-paced mysteries with complex characters, this one is definitely worth a read.

A clever, quick thriller. This one is told from multiple perspectives across thousands of miles. It has the boyfriend who everyone thinks did it, mobster family man, and small town detective. I'm not much for mobster stories, but having it as one of the perspectives was fun. The twists weren't obvious, and the author did a good job making the characters likable enough to care what happened to them.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC! I purchased for my library and shared with a monthly group as my favorite thriller for the month. I will look for more from the author.

My favorite by Alex Finlay!

Five years ago, Ryan and his girlfriend Ali were at Lover's Lane when he was yanked out of the car and knocked unconscious. What happened to Ali?

Ryan wasn't charged with her disappearance but that doesn't stop people from calling him a killer. Ryan moved away with a new identity.

Poppy McGee, a rookie deputy sheriff gets her first puzzling case. Ali's car has been discovered in Suncatcher Lake with two dead men inside along with her cryptic note.

Oooh the mystery! Finlay did a terrific job weaving the characters and plot together. I couldn't put this book down wondering what happened to Ali, and how these characters are linked. A lot is going on here but in a good way. From Leavenworth to Philadelphia, to Italy, the UK, and France, readers follow Ryan, Poppy, and other supporting casts. Have fun trying to figure this one out!

I'm grateful for an ebook and audio copy of If Something Happens to Me . Helen Laser, John Pirhalla, and Paul Dateh are fantastic narrators and you can't go wrong with either format.

Thank you St. Martin’s Press/Minotaur Books, Macmillan Audio, and NetGalley for the DRC and ALC.

I just couldn't get into this book. Several different locations, made it slightly confusing. Just not my style.

Thank you so much to NetGalley, Macmillan Audio, and Alex Finlay for allowing me to review this twisty audiobook. I really enjoyed the narrators in this audiobook. They were excellent and I was able to follow the multiple characters and timelines. I love thrillers that incorporate multiple timelines and this one was excellently crafted. It was also fast paced and entertaining throughout. I can’t wait for more from this author. Thank you again for allowing me to review this audiobook. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys mystery/thrillers!

Alex Finlay's latest is a fast-paced thriller that will take you to Europe and back. Combining a disappearance from years ago with a current mystery, Finlay takes the reader on an emotional twisted ride. So many plot twists and revelations this one is sure to have you on your seat. I could not put it down.

I was not familiar with the narrators; Helen Laser, John Pirhalla, and Paul Dateh. They did a fabulous job keeping the listeners attention. It made it easy to follow points of views and keep them straight.

Thank you to NetGalley, Minotaur Books and Macmillan Audio for an advanced reading and listening copies of this book.

Alex Finlay is the master of fast-paced books that read like a movie and If Something Happens to Me is no exception. It is a style that I am trying to still get used to, but I have to admit that it is quite entertaining.
The start of the story was a bit over the top but still had me hooked. The characters and the storyline will have you suspending your disbelief. The ending was twisty as always, but I am unsure if it worked for me. The narrator of the audiobook did a great job in general.

I love a mystery/thriller that involves old crimes or secrets being revealed or solved decades later. This one has about 10 years in between and I have to admit the twists and turns were pretty good. I especially liked how the two time lines were skewed which made some of the reveals even better. The author may have traded shallow characterization for the thrills, but that worked for the most part.

This book was quite the ride! I loved the fast pace, and I never knew where the story was going to go. An intricate mystery and a puzzle that slowly comes together, along with a bit of action make If Something Happens to Me a fun read.

If Something Happens To Me is now my fourth book by Alex Finlay, and there's something reassuring about returning to an author this many times... even if the book isn't instantly a new favourite.

This plot is a tangled spider web, and looking back, I'm really not sure that I managed to untangle the web all the way. There's a big chunk of this plot that involves the underbelly world, and that's just not always something I like in my books.

I did really like Poppy, however! Now don't get me wrong, she's no Special Agent Sarah Keller (from Finlay's The Night Shift and Every Last Fear) but she's still an underdog to root for, with a strong will and good head on her shoulders... although I kept anticipating Keller poking her nose into this investigation. (It's hard to love an authors character like I do with Special Agent Keller, and not have her make another appearance!)

I was already familiar with audiobook narrators Helen Laser and John Pirhalla, (who are both are favourites of mine) but this was my first by Paul Dateh. All did a good job, their voices fitting their characters' demeanor well.

This book was good, not great, and seemed to be missing the nostalgia I really love and expect from Finlay!

Thank you NetGalley, St. Martin's Press, Minotaur Books and Macmillan Audio for the complimentary copies to read and review.

If Something Happens to Me is a great listen. I found it to be captivating with great narration. I was at times a bit confused, but I think that was a reflection of just how much is packed into this story. With multiple POVs, things took off once I sorted out who was who. This is an original story, with a slower pace for most thrillers I’ve read. In the end it all comes together nicely.

Another home run by Alex Finlay! Once again, the author has provided us with rich well-developed characters and a fast-moving story line leaves you breathless and at the edge of your seat in this high-octane action thriller. If you are looking for a thriller with a complex, sinister but believable plot surrounded by lots of action, this book is for you. I couldn’t put it down. This thriller grabs you from the first page and doesn’t give you a moments rest until the last page.

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio who provided me with a copy of this book. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

This is a really fun, fast paced thriller! I figured out some of the connections but for the most part this will keep you guessing and just enjoying the wild ride.

This was a short, fast paced mystery/thriller with some past and present timelines. I thought all the points of views from the different characters were interesting and really kept the story moving at a fast paced. I personally really enjoyed the setting as I am located in the Kansas City area so I was familiar with some of the references - including a brief reference to my alma mater! I thought the ending was satisfying and I was happy with how it all worked out!

This was a good, suspenseful story with some twists and turns. Clever twists that Alex always delivers. A really good plot. I would read it again.

This is the first thriller in awhile that I couldn’t predict all the twist and turns that would happen. There were definitely some far-fetched scenes, but I couldn’t seem to put the book down to see what would happen next! I have already recommended this to several of my book loving friends!

This book was amazing as well as the narration. The story is well crafted and build up of the story. I was left constantly wondering what the twists would be. I have suggested this book to fellow readers!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for making this audiobook available. This was a typical thriller by Alex Finlay. It moved along well, but there was nothing that I found particularly memorable. Not sure if I will continue to read this author.
