Loved this book so much! It literally had me on the edge of my seat! I could not put it down! The twists and turns we something else! Daemon was delicious imo! Was he grumpy? Yes! Was he rude? Yes! Was he a total Alpha-hole… Absolutely! But I love me a good enemies to lovers! Also Katy was so relatable! I connected with her character so well! Who would’ve thought I’d love and alien romance so much but here I am! Loving it!!!

Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout is amazing. It's set in the town of Ketterman, West Virginia, full of humor and heart-pounding action. There's amazing chemistry between the FMC and the MMC and the mythology adds some depth to the story. This is a fast pacing book that's very hard to put down. I really loved this introduction to this series.

Whoops. This was a DNF for me. Which is a huge disappointment. I love JLA's FBAA and F&F series. I guess her YA writing just isn't for me? The writing in this book didn't live up to the intelligent storytelling I'm used to in FBAA and F&F. Def felt this was written for a younger audience which made it difficult for me to read.
I do love that the FMC is a book nerd. That made her feel incredibly relatable to me!

Absolutely love anything from JLA! I was excited to get to explore a world outside of the Blood and Ash/Flesh and Fire universe. Will definitely continue the series

I unfortunately didn’t like this book. I actually read enough bully romances, that I almost always end ip loving, but somehow this doesn’t hit the mark for me.
The MMC is just too much of a….jerk. He is so obnoxious in the most immature way possible. He’s like several finance bros in one suit, just spewing out ridiculous rhetoric to the FMC.
Meanwhile, I swear someone needs to lend a backbone to our heroine. She doesn’t have one and it’s honestly so embarrassing to read what she allows to happen.

So I went into reading this with no clue what it was about. I became obsessed super quickly and before I know it I read the whole series. This book and the others will hold one of the spots in my favorites for sure! Definitely worth the isolation I went into to read.

The angst, the drama, the banter, and the undeniable chemistry! Kat and Daemon had me desperate for more throughout the whole entire book!
Rereading this for the re-release of this book brought back a lot of middle school memories, but in the most nostalgic way

This book was an amazing start to the series! I loved every minute and can't wait to dive into even more!

This new hardcover edition is just gorgeous and a must for collectors! It made me want to re-read this series again. It will always be one of my favorites and a must-read for all young readers. Here's what I had to say about Obsidian
Oh, I liked this more than I thought I was going to, since this is not typically my favorite genre. But I found the characters to be likable, the pacing to be very engaging. By the end of the book, I wanted, no had to know, what was going to happen to Katy and Daemon and Dee. The best scenes were those where Katy and Daemon let down their defenses and communicate, and the action sequences are well done.
I liked the world building here too.

I'm getting serious twilight vibes from this book!
This was such an amazing read and thank you to Entangled for gifting me an eARC of the newly published version of Obsidian, and also for letting me take part in this read along! It has been such an amazing read and I have been hooked from the start! Suffice to say, I will be reading more by Jla in the future!!
Also, teensy spoiler, I think Katy turned into a Luxen too! Can anyone tell me if im right or is it more complex?

“I’ve always found that the most beautiful people, truly beautiful inside and out, are the ones who are quietly unaware of their effect.”....“The ones who throw their beauty around, waste what they have? Their beauty is only passing. It’s just a shell hiding nothing but shadows and emptiness.”
I was lucky enough to participate in the @entangled_publishing Obsidian Read Along and was instantly hooked! I mean I was terrible with the read-along because I can't pace myself while reading but it was fun nevertheless 🤣. If I'm into a book, I'll binge the whole thing in a day 🤷♀️. But I thought this was a good start to an intriguing series! I've seen a few people compare it to Twilight and I can see the similarities. Best part is, the series is already released and available on KU! I'll include the blurb and a graphic of the new stenciled edges on the next slides. Read this if you love:
•YA fantasy/sci-fi
•High school setting
•Hidden identity
•Enemies to lovers
•Bookish FMC
•Bad Boy MMC

I enjoyed this book and was able to a read along thanks to the publisher! This was easy to read and refreshing take on alien and human interaction in YA format.

"Obsidian" by Jennifer L. Armentrout is an absolute blast! This was my first dive into an alien romance, and it did not disappoint. Katy, our feisty book-blogging heroine, moves to West Virginia and finds herself living next to the infuriatingly hot Daemon Black. He's got it all—looks, charm, and, oh yeah, he's an alien. The constant bickering between Katy and Daemon is filled with hilarious tension and just the right amount of sexual frustration.
While the alien concept was a bit of a curveball, it quickly turned into an addictive read. Katy's stubbornness and Daemon's arrogance make for a dynamic and engaging duo. Sure, their back-and-forth can get a bit repetitive, but it adds to the charm. If you're looking for a fun, quick read with bad-ass characters and a touch of the extraterrestrial, "Obsidian" is your ticket to another world! Can't wait to grab the next book in the series!

Brilliant and sexy, I picked this up and couldn't put it down. JLA always delivers with her fantasy stories. I'm in love with her writing and can't wait to read the next book.

Obsidian was awesome. I must admit I was a little on the fence about it. I wasn't sure I'd like it but I've never been happier to be proven wrong. It was atmospheric. There was action, suspense, a bit of a mystery that wasn't fully realized but I'm expecting it to be tackled in the next book. There's a budding romance, an intriguing magic system and so much more. I enjoyed it and can't wait to see what happens next.

4.5 stars rounded up to 5
This series has been on my TBR forever and now thanks to Entangled readalong I finally sank my teeth into it! This book was originally published in 2012 but there is a gorgeous sprayed edges edition getting released on July 2 that I cannot stop thinking about.
Katy and her mom just moved to small town West Virginia and Katy’s next door neighbors are bubbly Dee and her grumpy but beautiful brother Daemon. (And yes there were definitely some VD Damon vibes here!) Sparks fly but not always in a good way and soon Katy finds herself entangled in her neighbours’ secret!
This was such a fun, entertaining read. I thoroughly enjoyed Katy’s wannabe badass attitude and development of her connection both with Dee and with Daemon. This is the kind of story that helps me fully unplug from reality. And my favorite part - the rest of the series is already out so I can continue my Lux journey immediately!

A huge thank you to @entangled for my copy and for organizing such wonderful readalong - I looked forward to daily questions and reading everyone’s answers!

This book provided a swift and enjoyable reading experience! I'm almost new to an alien-themed book, and I found the portrayal of the aliens quite fascinating. Katy made for an excellent protagonist, and her book blog was a delightful addition. Despite some repetitiveness and the frequent, albeit humorous and sexually charged, quarreling between Katy and Daemon, which occasionally felt excessive, I am now committed to the story and plan to read the subsequent book in the future.

I absolutely LOVED Obsidian.
Daemon and Katy, OMG!
The romance was steamy!
The dialogue was incredible.
Love the new cover, second time reading this book!

Jennifer L. Armentrout's Obsidian swept me away into a world where aliens walk among us, secrets simmer beneath the surface, and forbidden love ignites like a supernova. Set in the picturesque town of Ketterman, West Virginia, this novel introduces us to Katy Swartz, a book-loving, relatable protagonist who moves to a new neighborhood and discovers that her next-door neighbor is anything but ordinary.
Enter Daemon Black, the infuriatingly attractive, infuriatingly infuriating alien with a penchant for pushing Katy's buttons. Their banter crackles like electricity, and the slow-burning tension between them is as irresistible as a black hole's gravitational pull. But there's more to Daemon than meets the eye, and Katy finds herself drawn into a dangerous intergalactic conflict.
Armentrout's writing is addictive, seamlessly blending humor, heartache, and heart-pounding action. The chemistry between Katy and Daemon is scorching, and their interactions range from witty to heart-melting. The Luxen mythology adds depth to the story, and the pacing keeps you flipping pages faster than a warp-speed spaceship.
As Katy grapples with newfound abilities, alien adversaries, and her growing feelings for Daemon, readers are treated to a rollercoaster of emotions. The stakes rise, the twists multiply, and the romance burns hotter than a star going supernova. By the time I reached the jaw-dropping cliffhanger, I was fully invested in this captivating series.
Obsidian is a celestial collision of romance, suspense, and extraterrestrial intrigue. If you're ready to be abducted by a book that leaves you starry-eyed and craving more, dive into this stellar adventure.

I had so much fun doing the readalong for this one! It’s been a favorite of mine for years and with each reread I find something new to love. I highly recommend giving this series a shot if you love YA romance with tons of tension and especially if you loved Twilight and/or Roswell. Bonus points for Katy being the ultimate book blog girlie! It’s just so good!
