I loved the story, the world building and meeting the different characters. I felt completely immersed in the story and couldn't stop reading it.

Note, that this view does contains spoilers because I can't control myself with this series and I hope that alone, makes you want to read, but fear not, I've spoiler tagged it, so you can still read.

Synopsis: A new girl arrives in town and just so happens to live next door, to Daemon and Dee. Katy leaves her own town due to her father passing away from cancer and her mom wanted a new start, so they move to West Virginia. On the first day, she happens to meet Daemon but there's something about him, something that drives her wild, that angers her but there's something else.

Note, this is down as a paranormal romance, but I didn't read it due to the fact that 1) It reads more sci-fi, but it's not 2) I wanted to get through FB&A through.

To begin, without spoilers. If you loved Twilight, if you love Jennifers' other books, this is very similar read - I adore Jennifer's work, big fan of hers but I had yet to read Obsidian due to 1) the arc request 2) I only found her reading the Blood & Ash series. However I knew this series was going to be a good read, so much that I read the whole thing in less than 2 days and the whole series in a week. That's how addictive I found it.

Now for spoilers!

There's a few things that made me read instantly think Twilight, the way Katy thinks - except for the fact she's a blogger and loves to read, a lot of her personality does resemble to Bella Swan, that was my instant thought when I started reading. I also find her walk into danger and lack of awareness is something else until the middle of the book which is when we learn just who Daemon and Dee are. And thankfully, not vampires.

It wasn't long into before we started getting the heat between Daemon and Kat, honestly I love the fact that Daemon calls her Kitten, and the way they just bounce off each other, literally love it. The whole idea of Daemon mutating Katy, to become a hybrid - I adore this idea, because it does change who she is, she doesn't want to be 'weak' compared to Daemon, she wants to be equal as she can be. We do get a lot hot/cold action between them, but I think it fits perfectly. There's a few moments with Katy, when I feel like she's an idiot, like walking away and nearly hit by a car but thankfully Daemon stops the vehicle and time which is when Katy learns just who Daemon is.

I loved the idea of Dee/Daemon being an alien race, known as Luxens. I think the whole idea, the way Jennifer describes them is just amazing, like I can picture it vividly in my mind when reading - "a human figure of light" I think is reference a few times in the book or the series. My mind has literally pushed them altogether into one massive book.

Daemon and Dee's sibling bond, is just - well, Daemon is very protective and my goodness, it's hot to know he'd do anything, even be a jerk towards Katy, even though knows she's human and things won't end well for him. But even more when we find out that they both had a brother, they're not twins but triplets! Legasp.

Out of everything, this is a really good book, I will promise you a great read if you're into romance and you want something different than the same ole supernatural romances. Just keep reading, because soon, you'll be surprised what comes next.

Pros:
- A different type of romance book, no the usual vampire/human romance.
- There's a lot of character development between the characters, not a lot is given away early in the books but still enough to ask this and that (trust me, I did)

Cons:
- Without spoilers, there's a few moments I would complain that Katy is human and often forgets this!

The only perk to discovering a book series long after it's been published is that I'm able to fully binge this entire series and after that ending that's exactly what I plan to do!

From start to finish the JLA pulled me into this story. The plot is filled with so much angst, tension, mystery, banter and undeniable chemistry between the MC's. I was eagerly flipping pages to see what was going to happen next.

I always have high expectations anytime I pick up a book from this author and my expectations were definitely met. I can't wait to move onto the next book!

Thank you JLA, Net Galley and Entangled Publishing for providing me with an ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.

I read this book and immediately started the second. Then, I went to the third. Then…. The fourth wasn’t on kindle unlimited, and now I have to wait for my public library to buy it.

Jennifer Armentrout is so good at these sci-fi romantasy novels. I love this series. I cannot wait to finish it. It’s super low spice. Totally fades to black, but this is young adult reading, and I think that’s okay. If you want spice, look at some of her other novels (specifically the FBAA series).

You’ll be obsessed with Daemon within the first few chapters, and Katy is great. As a fellow book lover and reviewer, you may find yourself really identifying with her character. Which becomes all the more interesting as relationships grow and change through the series.

Love, love, love!

This book gave serious twilight vibes, but kick vampires to the curb and throw in a super sexy a*hole neighbor . That being said I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters were well written. It was clear who we should love and who we should hate... And when we should stop hating them. The plot sucks you into the pages and keeps you there.

This book had me hooked! I did an entangled publishing read along and it was near torturous not to finish the entire book in one sitting.
Book centers around a girl named Katy who just moved to a new city with her mother looking for a fresh start. She moves next door to this Asshole named Daemon who is mean for seemingly no reason. But Daemon has a slightly younger sister who becomes instant best friends with Katy. Katy starts to notice odd things around town and the story goes from there… definitely recommend!

Obsidian

Let me start off by saying the @entangledpublishing read along for this book was beyond compare. The amount of interaction from the publisher and other readers was unreal.

Katy moves to West Virginia after her father passes away from cancer. She meets Daemon Black, who isn’t the most welcoming neighbor. Daemons sister Dee however, hits it off with Katy. Instant best friends. Katy starts noticing something odd around town and the way people treat her.

The banter between Daemon and Katy was infuriatingly sexy. We can tell that daemon wants her, but a relationship with Katy would put his sister and their people in danger. Hes constantly her night in shining armor, but runs like he regrets it and leave Katy wondering. The bad boy next door vibe Daemon has before Katy knows what he is pushed her away but pulled her in at the same time. This book was great and I can’t wait to read the next one.

Book Review: Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The beautiful new edition is releasing on July 2nd!

I was so excited to be chosen to do a read along with @entangled_publishing for this rerelease of Obsidian! 😍

I didn’t want any spoilers so I read the bare minimum of the blurb and I AM SO GLAD!

Going into this book not knowing what was coming gave me an awesome experience!! I was guessing and second guessing what in the world could be going on!

I loved this book 📚
It’s a YA Sci-Fi that took me back to feelings I had in the 90’s/early 2000s and I am here for all of it!!

The MFC is relatable and the tension is real!

Add this one to your TBR and preorder the beautiful new edition!! You won’t regret it!

Obsidian is the first novel in Jennifer L. Armentrout's Lux series. It was billed as a YA at the time of release, though now it might classify as an NA series; it is a mature YA with 17-year-old protagonists dealing with life and death situations.

I love an action-packed novel with strong characters, and Obsidian delivers. This book gives us Katy's POV exclusively, which does add the mystery as she tries to piece together her suspicions and reach conclusions. After moving from Florida to West Virginia, her new neighbors aren't all they seem, and Katy is both smart and self-confident enough to not let the gaslighting completely undermine what she's seen.

Katy is a compelling protagonist because she is very messy and real. She's self-confident enough to not accept being treated poorly, but she's also not a snob, she has her insecurities, and she wrestles with things. The combination makes her credible and relatable.

Daemon is like a faucet - he runs hot and cold in a blink, and you never know which version of him you'll get. While that's frustrating for Katy, it does reveal his internal struggle, because he knows his people should keep their distance from humans, but that isn't always easy to do.

While this book centers on discovery and a growing potential relationship between Katy and Daemon, JLA doesn't feel pressured to tie things up with a neat bow or give us closure. Many threads have been introduced because they'll become relevant later (I read the entire series last week) and it works extremely well within the context of the series. This book is a compelling introduction to the series and it left me wanting more, which was why I kept reading, and didn't even take a break before completing all 5 books in the series. I'm thrilled that Entangled is releasing new special editions of these books - I must admit to having a bit of a book hangover now, because Katy, Daemon, and the rest of the gang have become so embedded in my brain, it's hard to let them go. A pageturner that I thoroughly enjoyed. 5 stars.

If you’re looking for a slow burn, enemies to lovers, touch her and die YA romance/fantasy. This is the book for you. This book mixes Sci-Fi and romance so beautifully. Not to mention there are five in the series and once you read the last page of Obsidian you’ll immediately want to grab that next book!

A very good book. It is quick to suck you in! Enjoyed all the angst, drama, and mystery that surrounded this book. The FMC and MMC have great chemistry with all the underlying high school issues and tensions. Blew through this book and read for the next.

Obsidian is the first book in the Lux series and is so much fun! It’s a sci-fi series set in our world with light and shadow aliens. I have not read many alien books in the past but this was such a quick read and I couldn’t stop thinking about it. The main characters love/hate each other and the tension between them…chef’s kiss!! I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!

This was such a nostalgic read for me! It reminded me of all the HS romance and sci-fi reads I used to love! Not the best writing but still enjoyable

**Review of *Obsidian* by Jennifer Armentrout: 4.5 Stars**

*Obsidian* by Jennifer Armentrout was an exhilarating introduction to paranormal literature for me, and I’m officially hooked! The story captivated me from the start, particularly with the witty banter and developing relationship between Daemon and Katy. Their chemistry is electric, and I found myself eagerly anticipating each of their interactions.

Katy's character is a standout. Her bravery when she discovers Daemon's secret and her resilience in the face of various challenges are truly inspiring. She handles every twist and turn with a strength that makes her an admirable protagonist.

The plot is fast-paced and filled with suspense, keeping me on the edge of my seat. Armentrout has crafted a world that is both intriguing and immersive, making *Obsidian* a thrilling read from beginning to end. I can’t wait to dive into the rest of the series!

Overall, *Obsidian* is a must-read for fans of romance and paranormal fiction. Jennifer Armentrout has created a story that is both captivating and unforgettable.

4.5 stars!

This book is awesome! Katy is such a relatable character. I love that she has a blog to share her love of books. And Daemon...just swoon! The tension and build up between Katy and Daemon's relationship is electric. I really enjoy their banter. And I can't wait to read more in the next book! If you like YA sci-fi/paranormal romance then I highly recommend this book.

Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for allowing me to read this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

I enjoyed this book and the read along with the publisher! Thank you Entangled Publishing for the ebook!

This was YA and was an easy read. Nice spin on aliens and their interaction with humans. I’m going to have to read the rest of the series so I can find out a few things that were uncovered in the bonus chapters.

It’s a good old YA story that gave me Twilight feels for a bit there, but the maturity of the writing had me enjoying it. While predictable and I wanted to understand a bit more about the aliens, it was just a fun read.

I was able to be a part of the read-along with entangled teen for this one and guys it was so much fun. I had heard of the LUX series before but never picked it up. I was so pleasantly pleased to know that this book’s really good in my opinion. The MC was a bit annoying but I was able to get past that pretty quickly, Daemon was such a jerk in the beginning and middle but I understood why. He crossed the line and was very hot and cold, making me understand Katy and how frustrating these situations were. Anyway, I enjoyed the book, it was high action, a little slow burn, and the banter was great. I also love the new design of the covers ET is doing for the series.

I was able to read this as a group read with the publisher, and have had a wonderful time engaging with the other readers!

I've kind of decided that I'm just not the biggest fan of JLA's books, obviously a TON of people enjoy her books, and that's great.

I had a hard time reading the, honestly, needless bullying that Katy had to endure from people she had literally never met before. Telling people that their *breathing* is a problem, just doesn't sit well with me. I felt like this was an alien fanfiction based off of Twilight, so I don't think I'll read more in this series.
