A fun read that I finished in two bites!

I really like the world of these books which combines secret generational magic (if you're in one of the families, you know) with behind the scenes stories from the New Zealand film industry (or at least, Hollywood visiting New Zealand).

I really liked Amalia, a Craft Services chef at the end of her rope, struggling to recover from a career meltdown (and in a deeper sense, to recover from the feeling of 'never enough' because her magical skills are undervalued by her family.

But there's a ghost on set, haunting the star of the film... and the only way Amalia can protect him is to date him!

If it was a whole novel of "oh we can't tell him magic exists" then it might have become tiresome, but the pace of this speedy novella means that we rattle through to the conclusion at a natural rate.

Warning, you will need to find a caramel slice to eat within 24 hours of reading this book.

Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for the opportunity. My review opinions are my own. ,This is a adorable Novella romance with a touch of paranormal and a lot of love. I enjoyed the magical side of the main character and I enjoyed the romance that is presented in just the right way and very sweet. The main character is Amalia who is fighting the distain of her magical family for not being the right kind of witch in their eyes. She ends up losing her job and is now running a food truck. She has hopes her life will calm down until she meets a actor who sweeps her away with his charming personality and killer good looks. He is being haunted but will he believe her when she shares his angry ghost with him? A fun read that keeps the reader entertained with two complex and likable characters.

Its a wonderful escape read and I look forward to the next in series.

✨ Magical realism
✨ Movie star MMC
✨ Witchy FMC
✨ A haunting
✨ Novella

Fantastic second novella in the series, but unlike the first it left me wanting so much more.
Kingston ends up feeling like a parody of his own character and I just want to actually get to know him better. I was also left with a lot of magic related questions.
While the story was great and well paced and worked wonderfully as a rounded out novella, this one feels like it could so easily be fleshed out into a much more satisfying full length novel.

This was fine. It was a bit more young adult romance wise than I usually read. And I would have liked a little more magic. It was really a ghost story, but while the FMC has “I see ghosts” magic, the book says oh well no one knows anything about it. And the reader and characters really never learn anything more about it. The big power reveal isn’t hers., which bummed me out. I like a stronger female lead. It felt like the beginnings of a fun story, but it fell flat because it skated over her power, his charm and the magic they have together.

Thank you to Netgalley, 8th Note Press, & Karen Healy for the eARC of Savory & Supernatural. All opinions are my own.

Savory & Supernatural is an interconnected standalone cozy magical romance within Karen Healy’s Movie Magic series. I normally am not a huge fan of novellas but this one is short and sweet and suited the story very well. I truly enjoyed the suspense element of plot line as well as the uniqueness of the characters! You could definitely read Savory & Supernatural without reading Bespoke & Bespelled and the plot would make sense but I highly recommend reading that one first!

One of my current favorite TV shows is Ghosts, both the US and UK versions, plus I am a huge fan of Charmed. I am very happy I was given this book to read, and was introduced to an author that was previously unknow to me. Thank you Netgalley!
This book is a fun, speedy read! A story with ghosts, friendly witches and romance! How could you not love this story. Amalia is a witch, the friendly kind, but she can also see ghosts. Kingston is a handsome actor who is a bit of a pack rat, and it's his penchant for collecting that gets the ghost. And this ghost is not happy! Amalia and Kingston take a step towards romance, but will that pesky ghost ruin the romance and Amalia's career.
The romance is sweet, the witches are charming and well that ghost cannot be trusted! Pick up this fun witchy romance! I hope there are more books with these two characters. This is great as a YA and adult read, no spice, but just the right amount of scary and sweet!

Oh my gosh! That was just so much fun. And now I’m kicking myself for having missed out on the first book in the series. (There’s another title for my already overloaded to-be-read shelf.) But this book stands completely fine on its own. The opening scene and when Amalia and Kingston interact with our previous leading couple were the only times I was left feeling like I might have missed something. Otherwise, everything I needed was in this book. I adored these quirky characters, and watching them falling in love was so much fun. I already can’t wait for our next opportunity to do this again. In fact, I might have to re-read this right now, just because.
I received a complimentary advance copy of this book through NetGalley.

Review: This was a short and sweet supernatural romance. But this was so short, and the setup took a while, so by the time we got to the romance, the supernatural part took over and became the focal point. So, the romance just dissipated, and I nearly forgot about it until the very end of the book. I wish we got more of this, as I liked Amalie and Kingston and was hoping for something more from their new relationship.

Nothing would come of nothing

An entertaining second in series novella featuring a cater feeding the cast and crew on location in New Zealand and the handsome movie but haunted leading man that has no clue who he really is. This is a cute story. I highly recommend it!

Savory & Supernatural is book two in the Movie Magic series by Karen Healey.
What an enchanting novella.
Kingston and Amalia’s chemistry was excellent!
Healey's writing is sharp and witty, and she does a great job of creating characters that readers will absolutely love.
The plot is engaging and intriguing, and the story is full of twists and turns that will keep readers entertained until the very end.
A charming witchy movie-set romance that is sure to engage and hook!

Thank you to NetGalley and 8th Note Press for the advanced copy of Savory & Supernatural by Karen Healey!

Savory & Supernatural follows Amalia, a chef with the magic to enhance food (and also see ghosts), and Kingston, an actor, as they meet and work on the same set together. When one of Kingston's quirks leads to him being haunted by a progressively aggressive ghost, Amalia has to toe the line of getting close to him to get rid of the ghost, but also to get to know him.

I liked the premise of the book, especially how magic manifests in this world between Amalia and her cousin. However, I felt like many of the characters fell a little flat for me. There wasn't really any point in the book I felt sad, happy, excited, etc for the characters.

PUB DATE: April 30th!

I really enjoyed this book! It was nicely paced and I finished it in about a day. The characters were fun and I enjoyed the setting. I would definitely say this has a cozy vibe!

This is the second book of the Movie Magic series, but I believe you can read it as a standalone.

I liked the addition of plant magic and ghosts in this book. Amalia is our hardworking leading lady that is a witch down on her luck, she is also a fantastic cook. Our main squeeze Kingston is an up and coming actor with some peculiar tastes. I found their chemistry electric! I like how each character has faults and were completely human, honestly it’s nice to read about imperfect people because that’s so close to real life!

The ending wrapped up nicely and I hope there will be more additions in this world. I love the authors writing it’s digestible romance and adult, there is swooning and confidence which I love! They knew their attraction right away.

This was such an enjoyable read!
The characters are well-developed and the connection between Kingston and Amalia was charming. The supernatural element added an intriguing layer to the story. The ghost, with its motivations and backstory, provided a thrilling element.
It was a delightful read that will leave you spellbound. It's charming characters, supernatural elements, and heartwarming romance will leave you craving more. I definitely recommed giving this a read!

I wanted to love this more than I did, but it was a cute novella. I just think it was a lot to pack in around 138 pages, and I felt like it was missing something and I didn't connect with the characters. I didn't really care for the MMC, I did enjoy the witch and magic aspects of this novella, but it just didn't capture my attention like I wanted it to.

Thank you to NetGalley, 8th Note Press, and Karen Healey for the eARC of this book.

Thank you 8th Note Press for surprising me with this e-arc! This story is a super quick novella about a girl with magic who can see a ghost haunting her new crush.. how do you fix that while building a relationship??

While I eat, breathe, and sleep romance, I don’t not think I am a magic + romance person. There’s only been a book or two that’s really been up my alley in that genre. So you have to remember reading is subjective so this might REALLY be for you. I took that into consideration in my writing because the story was well written that it kept me entertained. Because I know others may love this more than me and the writing was good, I gave it a rating of 3/5 ⭐️

This novella just wasn't for me. However, I do recognize that is might appeal to some readers. Here are a few reasons you might consider picking it up:

-It's a Novella - No big investment of time needed
-It has classic ghost rom-com tropes - The ghost is seen and heard only by our heroine, which causes some misunderstandings.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC. All opinions are my own.

This was an incredibly fun novella with an interesting magic system I can’t wait to read more of!

I loved how much characterization was able to fit in such a short book. You really get a feel for both of the main characters quickly but it doesn’t feel rushed at all. I loved this spin on the kitchen witch and garden witch concept. I’m looking forward to more novellas to round the world building out.

Savory & Supernatural

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“ Kingston went to an exclusive drama school in London and has leading-man looks and charm. But while the work's been steady, he's still desperate for the perfect breakout, award-bait role to sink his teeth into. In the meantime, he's determined to make the most of his time on location in New Zealand for a major film franchise. But ever since he picked up a shiny washed-up trinket on the beach shoot, things have been getting . . . spooky”

This was a super cute and fun little book. I love different magical stories. I like the way the characters were written and would love to see more from them. I would and will recommend this one for a quick fun read.

Amalia has recently been fired from her job as a chef. She now owns a catering business and gets a job as craft services on a set of a movie in New Zealand.

Kingston keeps getting type casted in period dramas. He really likes collecting trinkets from the sets. He picks up a spoon that's connected to a ghost.

Amalia can see the ghost and tries to get the trinket back.

I really loved this novella. Magic, ghosts and New Zealand. Yes, please. I can't wait to read more by this author.

Extremely cozy and cute short story that was the perfect palate cleanser for the very angsty contemporary romance I read before it. Always a big fan of the celeb/normie romance so it definitely hit the spot for me.
