Such a fun play on the hero epic. I loved this romping tale that took us all around and introduced us to a plethora of characters.

Such a beautiful story! I loved the world building! I easily attached to the characters! I would definitely say a recommendation for SJM fans!

“This Will Be Fun” takes the traditional band of chosen heroes trope and fast forwards, asking, what happens after you save the world? How do you cope with what you had to do to save it? We meet the characters 10 years post happily ever after, our heroes having drifted apart in their attempts to deal with the aftermath and fame of a quest that changed their lives forever and claimed the life of one of their best friends. Each character has handled things a bit differently, from holing up in solitude to embracing the fame and adoration head-on. Having been forced together by circumstances beyond their control, they must decide if embarking on a second quest is worth losing the potential normalcy they’ve each managed to attain. I adore EB Asher for addressing what really happens to people who are destined to be heroes. This book was excellent. 5 stars all the way.
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon/Harper Voyager for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for this early copy. I love all of the authors involved in this book. So, I was very excited to see what they came up with together. This book is marketed as a fantasy, but it's very light on that aspect. It's a romance novel at heart, so the world building isn't all the way there. There were also a few instances of modern language that just didn't need to be there. But I was easily able to not let that bother me and just enjoy the story for what it was. I really loved the characters and their connections. I enjoyed reading about them figuring out how to not only forgive one another, but themselves. This book was full of heart and emotion. I absolutely loved the way it ended too.

I liked that this was raw and vulnerable, like someone opening up their notes app and actually meaning every word. Some pieces stung, others felt like a wink, and together they painted that weird mix of loneliness and connection we all slip in and out of. It wasn’t polished-perfect, but that’s exactly what made it hit.

This one was a bit difficult for me to get through and be engaged in the plot. All the different elements didn't come together cohesively for my tastes, as well as an essential part of the fun fantasy romp is likeable characters and these did not measure up. Loved the concept for this book, wasn’t a fan of the execution.. Thank you to Net Galley, the publisher and author for the opportunity.

E.B. Asher is a pen name for three people writing together. There are three different POVs in this series, so that makes sense...I guess. This is a cozy adventure romantasy where "The Four" lost one of their members during a Quest to save Mytheria. After the loss of their leader, Galwell the Great, these four went their separate ways, not talking to each other for 10 years, when they were basically forced to attend the Queen's wedding. They were then thrown into another Quest to save the Queen's fiancé. We find out along the way that Clare and Beatrice were in a relationship. They reunited 10 years later at Beatrice's ex-husband's divorce bash that Beatrice crashed so she could get her enchanted robe back. Clare was attending the soiree. Then we learn about Vandre, not a member of the four but an assassin turned Queen's Guard was in a relationship with Elowen, the sister of Galwell the Great, but they too had not spoken for 10 years until the Queen sent Vandre to bring Elowen to the wedding. Antics happen, we learn about everyone's magic, and there are sparks reunited for all involved. Also, super crazy things like Clare conventions and the celebration parties of The Four who saved the kingdom.
At the end of the day, this story was ok. However, it felt like we were plopped into the middle of a series and were expected to know what was happening. It felt a bit clunky and discombobulated. Though by the end, we patched all of the pieces together, kind of, it still felt like this was book two instead of the first book in this author's series. Though the characters were all easy to like, it felt disjointed, and though we patched together the quilt of this story, it still feels like pieces were missing. I don't know if it's because three different people were working on one story, or if, when storyboarding, we were to be in the author's heads and know the previous relationships that occurred. I do love this type of story, though, the banter, the humor, the not taking itself too seriously. Those are my heart books right now. Easy to follow, not a lot of thinking, and just a lot of joy throughout. I like the magic systems; they are different, but the same. I like the "ride shares" that people make with carriages. I know that may take some people out of the story, putting modern touches into old-timey places, but this is a world of magic; it isn't reality, so those touches I find quaint and humorous. The story would just have been better if there had been a better history, more time to get to know the angst of all of these characters. Really, if there was a book before this one, so we too could feel the heartbreak of our characters. At the end of the day, though a bit muddled, it was still charming.

Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this eARC. All opinions are my own.
This was an enjoyable reading experience.

Think Dungeons & Dragons meets messy group chat energy, with enchanted swords, ex-bandit heartthrobs, and a truth-or-dare game that’s way more dangerous than it sounds. Ten years ago, they saved the realm and wrecked their lives, now, they’ll either fix everything or die trying (probably both). Adventure, banter, and second-chance romance. Solid romantacy (romantasy? I have no idea how to spell that and I'm too lazy to look right now) 3.5 out of 5 stars.

This was a fun audiobook! It was an adventure of a tale, a group that had to work together to complete a quest and save a realm. It was silly and didn't take itself too seriously. I liked the interesting take on magic and how they each had interesting talents. I liked how they used to be 'heroes' and all were now struggling with that title, even when everyone around them still celebrated their accomplishments. I liked the banter, the way everything (including coffee orders!) were turned medieval and silly. I really enjoyed our different POV. It was a silly, fun audio book!
A huge thank you to the author and publisher for providing an e-ARC via Netgalley. This does not affect my opinion regarding the book.

I really wanted to like this better. It has all the elements I love, magic, banter, found family etc. However, if this was a movie, it would be the campy summer movie that suffered from bad cuts and edits.

This was a great cozy romantasy that answers that question of what happens to the adventures years after they have completed their greatest adventure. It was interesting to meet these characters after the height of their heyday and to see how they had grown apart and now how they would find their way back to each other. This type of fantasy is one that isn't often explored and it would be nice to see more like it.

As a lover of Narnia and The Magicians I was hoping to get into this one but I struggled. It has lots of elements I think others will enjoy: whimsical fantasy, friends and found family, what happens after saving the world, plus multiple romance options! However, it was very low stakes and the pacing was not consistent making it hard for me to stay engaged and interested.

First of all, I'm sorry to this book. I requested it on NetGalley because it sounded cute and fun and the cover is pretty. Alas, it did not hold my attention, I read about a third of it and put it down last November, and never picked it up again. So now, seven months later, I think of this book occasionally with guilt that I never finished it (or reviewed it) but I could not get myself to pick it back up.
From what I can remember, we're following a friend group who split up after they saved their magical land and their leader died, who now must reunite for a wedding.
Unfortunately, I didn't care for or about the characters, the plot was even lower stakes than Legends and Lattes (which I enjoyed). It might be the right book for someone else, but for me, life is too short to try to finish this book that I have no interest in.

This Will Be Fun is a cute YA quest romantasy by collaborative author-trio E.B. Asher. Released 29th Oct 2024 by HarperCollins on their Avon Voyager imprint, it's 416 pages and it available in hardcover library binding, paperback, audio, and ebook formats. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links and references throughout.
The authors have fully embraced their inner whimsy: there are texting carpets (reddit, with the chaos implicit in *that*), elevators, holograms, shows, cheek-by-jowel with cursed forests, knights in armor, and the 10-years-after reunion from the "chosen ones" who saved the world, and then tried to pick up the pieces and live a normal life afterwards.
The romantasy tropes (missed chances, enemies to lovers, second chances) are on full display, in a quest/reunion/save the world again plotline with 3 parallel MCs. There are some issues with the pacing, the action moves along fitfully, and the background world building is nonexistent.
On the whole, however, it's a satisfying romp, with a good denouement and resolution.
Three and a half stars. It would be a good choice for public library acquisition, for romantasy fans, or possibly as a buddy read. There's a second book due out from the same author/publisher in first quarter 2026, so that's something to keep an eye out for as well.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

I admire people who write books and put themselves out there. It’s such a vulnerable, brave thing to do.
However, this was not for me.

This Will Be Fun was genuinely a fun read. The story never strayed far from a comfortable middle ground of emotion or danger, making it (for me, at least) a true cozy fantasy read. Each character grew and changed over the course of the book, and everything wrapped up in a neat bow.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This book was exactly what the title promised: fun! But with emotional depth, of course. The group dynamic is messy and fun, and the banter is chef's kiss.

So, this was kind of fun? It was mostly enjoyable to watch the characters navigate their fantasy setting and drama, but it also sometimes lagged. The modern language was kind of funny, but also took me out of the story. It very much felt like friends doing a DnD campaign and they decided to write it down.

Expect enchanted swords, magical Truth or Dare, and coffee shops nestled in crystal caves, all wrapped in a story about second chances, found family, and the messiness of growing up after the adventure ends.
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon for this ARC!
