I loved the premise of this one – what becomes of heroes after they’ve completed their heroic quest? But the execution just wasn’t quite as strong as I wanted it to be. The characters were promising, and I do like how different their situations were at the beginning of the work. But they never really had that depth/development to make them really come to life, which also made the romance plots feel even more lackluster than they could have. About half of the “plot” of the work is also about the MCs being angsty, yearning for each other, complaining about their love lives, and reminiscing.

Modern phrases were used throughout, which is a big turn-off for me in a work of fantasy (even light fantasy). The humor was also quite modern, rather than fitting in the medieval-esque world that the tale is set in, which also clashed. Magic was used to emulate modern technology, but not really in clever ways, more in ways that weren’t explained and felt somewhat lazy overall.

I really don’t recommend reading this one unless you don’t mind very light fantasy that feels like modern slapstick comedy. My thanks to NetGalley and Avon and Harper Voyager for allowing me to read this work. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.

This book was a cozy fantasy read that is so different from everything else I’ve read. It was a bit difficult for me to get through, but I enjoyed it!

This book starts out cozy fantasy then gets more adventurous fantasy then gets real cozy again. I really enjoyed watching the characters evolve over the course of the book. They'd all spent ten years apart then in spending a new quest together they all grew together, which highlights our human need for community.

I liked that the book didn't take itself too seriously, which is possibly my favorite characteristic of cozy fantasy as a subgenre. I would gladly order my morning brew at Harpy & Hind. Or one of the independent brewshops Vandra prefers.

Thank you to NetGalley and Avon and Harper Voyager for an ARC of this book! This is my honest review.

Truly unique! I think this is one of the fantasies that truly feels different from what’s being published, and in the best way. My students were really interesting the group dynamic here and find relationships between not just lovers super interesting, and I agree. The premise is also just chefs kiss.

I had high hopes for this one, but it unfortunately fell a little flat for me. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Obsessed. I love everything about this and I hope there will be sequels! It is so fun and I did not want to put it down and found myself thinking of it when I wasn't reading.

A cozy romantasy novel co-written by three authors, it read a little like the sum of three parts. It did have its fun moments. Readers looking for cozy romantic fantasy may want to give it a go.

[Thanks to Avon and NetGalley for an opportunity to read an advanced reader copy and share my opinion of this book.]

If you have ever wondered what happens to your favorite heroes after they have saved the realm and gone back home to their "real lives", then this book will in fact be fun.

Set ten years after the infamous Four lose one of their own in the process of saving the realm, the remaining three are no longer on speaking terms and living separate lives. Clare basks in the glory of his youth as a heroic icon while Elowyn is holed up in a tower under self-imposed isolation following the death of her brother and Beatrice is dealing with the aftermath of a messy divorce. They are forced back together when the Queen requests their attendance at her upcoming nuptials and all of them have their own reasons and hidden secrets for acquiescing.

Full of heart, humor, and cozy adventure This Will Be Fun features second chance romances, forged forever friendships, and some old fashioned sword fighting. It is cleverly written and exceptionally cohesive given the fact that it was written by three separate authors. In fact, I was honestly shocked because usually one can tell differences in writing styles with multiple co-authors, but this novel was solid. I look forward to any future books put out by this trio. I honestly could not stop smiling reading this one.

The only thing that slightly bothered me was lots of modern technology in the worldbuilding which threw me at first, but I just accepted as a quirk of the world by the end (similiar to Sarah J. Maas Crescent City series where you have fairies using cellphones).

Perfect feel good standalone fantasy for fans of Travis Baldree and lovers of Dungeons and Dragons.. Geared more toward middle-aged fantasy readers, but is readable for anyone YA and up.

Thank you to NetGalley, E.B. Asher, and Avon for an advanced reader's copy in exchange for an honest review.

The Princess Bride is my favorite movie so the hype up on this one may have doomed it as it tried to live up to its comparisons.

What happens after you complete the hero quest? A group of has-been heroes is on a new quest years after it their friendship fell apart? Sign me up! This book has such a great premise, but it just didn't work for me on delivery. Every time a modern phrase like "hook ups" was used, it pulled me right out of the story. The story is set in feudal times and I think I was looking for the humor to feel like it fit there. Instead, we've got modern humor shoehorned into the feudual storyline.

I'm not saying it wasn't at all funny, it just didn't fully work for me. I would have enjoyed it more if I was expecting more Monty Python than Princess Bride, I think. If the use of modernisms in historical settings doesn't bother you, I think you'll enjoy this one.

A huge thank you to the author and the publisher for providing an e-ARC via Netgalley. This does not affect my opinion regarding the book.

This was an easy five star read for me. It's marketed as a Princess Bride meets People We Meet On Vacation and they aren't wrong. I loved everything about it. The setting, the characters, the witty banter. Legit, the banter was top tier!! Think Princess Bride time period mixed in with very modern language. There was magic, medieval quests with a modern twist, found family, second chance love and it was inclusive with both queer and straight romances. You seriously can't lose with this book. Every page was fun. I seriously picture the authors having a blast while writing this book and it shows!! I will definitely be rereading this book and recommending it to everyone!

This Will Be Fun
Author(s): E.B. Asher
Publisher: HarperCollins Publishers

Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins for a copy of this book to read and review.

To keep this short and sweet- it was cute! A Cozy Fantasy for sure. This book is about a group of friends finding their way back together to save the realm one more time.

I was really drawn to Beatrice’s character, she’s kinda grumpy and kinda funny although each character has their moments to be grumpy and funny. I can’t say this story does anything spectacularly different than any other cozy fantasy I’ve read but this could be a cute read for a rainy weekend.

There were elements of this book that I really enjoyed - at times, I thought it was witty, clever, and charming. Specifically, I loved the humor and the inclusion of modern day elements mashed together with a fantasy/medieval world. I liked the dynamics of some of the characters, especially Clare, and the complexity that was given to popular archetypes in fantasy books. Unfortunately, the main story line of the book lost me somewhere along the way and the time traveling salvation of Gadwall came late and felt rushed so it didn't impact me as much as I would have liked!

This Will Be Fun was kind of fun, but not quite enough to really win me over. The story follows three former heroes who reunite for another quest after a decade of unresolved tension, grief, and unanswered questions. While the premise had potential, the execution didn’t fully land for me.

The mix of modern slang with a medieval-style setting felt jarring and often pulled me out of the story. While I appreciated the emphasis on friendship and personal growth, the romantic subplots overshadowed the actual quest, which left the fantasy elements feeling underdeveloped. It wasn’t a bad read, but it lacked the balance and depth I was hoping for. If you enjoy lighter, quirky fantasy with a focus on relationships, this might be worth picking up, but it wasn’t quite my cup of tea.

This Will Be Fun was quite fun. Maybe a bit too fun for my tastes. It centers around three friends reunited after ten years to go on a quest. They have some unresolved feeling to deal with along the way.

While this book was fun, it didn’t quite work for me. Of our three main characters, I much preferred Beatrice’s chapters. There was also a heavy focus on romance, which makes sense for a romantasy. However, I’m not sure the romcom vibe worked in this book. The dialogue and word choice felt very modern for the time period, which pulled me out of the story at times.

Overall, this was a fun book that you may enjoy if the synopsis appeals to you.

In "This Will Be Fun" by E.B. Asher, three friends are reunited after 10 years. When they were last together, they saved their kingdom then all went their separate ways. Now, the queen's wedding has forced them back together with a lot of unanswered feelings and questions within the group. There's best friends Beatrice and Elowen who haven't spoken all in 10 years. Then there's Beatrice and Clare, a former celebrity romance for the ages. And the three all keep mourning the death of the group's leader Galwell. Can they push through their grief, anger and misunderstanding to help the queen with yet another quest?

This one just didn't really work for me. It was mostly centered on the "will they or won't they" of Beatrice and Clare and even Elowen's love interest and there wasn't enough of the mythical quest for me, personally. The writing was witty and kept me interested throughout and I really liked how the magic was explained and portrayed. There were some emotional moments that were well written and helped me stay connected to the story, but it didn't give me that fantasy adventure I was looking for. 3.5 stars.

Yes, this was fun. I enjoyed the silliness of the world and the interactions of the characters. I was willing to overlook their... not just ineptitude, but lack of plan. However, the end made no sense, and the denouement negated the emotional impact of the earlier scenes.

The characters were enjoyable enough that I had a good time, and I don't have a problem with cozy fantasy including modern-day references and contemporary allusions. I would like a plot, though, and if I can't have that, I'll settle for internal consistency. I would have given this four stars for being generally amusing and silly if the end hadn't been such a let-down.

Note for NetGalley: I received this book as an eARC, but ended up reading it in its final hardcopy form following publication.

The premise seemed fun and right up my alley. But the story ended up losing me with its inconsistent tone and language. I think I would have enjoyed it more if just one author had written this- but it felt obvious that more were involved and it just didn’t work for me unfortunately.
