Love & Lattes is a light and easy read, filled with workplace tension and a budding romance between two opposites. The premise—a no-nonsense overachiever, Annalise, unknowingly locking lips with the CEO’s charming son, Lloyd, just before her coveted summer internship—sets the stage for a rom-com full of misunderstandings, witty banter, and late-night sparks.
Annalise’s driven nature and focus on her career are admirable, but her rigidity can sometimes make her come across as too serious, especially in contrast to Lloyd, whose carefree, privileged attitude rubs her the wrong way. The chemistry between Anna and Lloyd is slow to develop, and although their back-and-forth banter adds a nice layer of tension, it sometimes feels a bit forced.
One of the book’s highlights is its setting—the high-pressure, fast-paced environment of a prestigious internship. The author does a great job capturing the competitive atmosphere and the stakes involved for Annalise, which adds a sense of urgency to her character's emotional and professional journey. However, the romance itself feels somewhat rushed in the final act, and their shift from enemies to something more could have been explored with a little more depth.
Overall, Love & Lattes is a fun and breezy read but I didn't feel super connected to the characters or their relationship.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Anna is so annoying. The entire book she jumps to every wrong conclusion immediately and with the hatred of a thousands suns. She has no chill, but she is also such a massive liar throughout the book. I know i don't have to like a character to like a book but I so much disliked her that I could not finish reading this one. Three stars cause the book wasn't bad but it definitely wasn't for me.

One summer internship. Two complete opposites. And a connection neither expected...
Annalise Sherwood has worked herself to the bone to get a place on a prestigious internship program and nothing is going to stop her now. Work hard, play later, that's her motto. She figures one night letting her guard down won't hurt, though - especially when it ends with the best kiss of her life.
But to Anna's horror, she discovers that the mystery guy she kissed that night is none other than Lloyd, the company CEO's son. Born with a silver spoon in his mouth, he's everyone's favorite guy and a total charmer, swanning around like he owns the place. And from the moment they meet again, he rubs Anna up the wrong way.
As the summer and the internship wane on, Lloyd seems to be finding any excuse to annoy Anna, and she's not afraid to give it right back to him. But when a lot of late night working brings them unexpectedly closer, she begins to wonder if there's more to him than she originally thought..

This is a book. More specifically, this is a New Adult (a little more mature than YA) rom-com book, and it feels just like that. A book. It reads quite quickly and feels very short, however, something about the writing just fell flat. First off, it's set in London with a first-person British narrator yet all the slang (i.e. college, line, etc) are purely American. Put simply, it doesn't make sense and feels like some American editor tweaked all the Britishisms that would be authentic. It was fine, sure, and honestly I was just glad I reached the final page.

Cute premise, but the hot and cold aspect was immediately noticeable and not done in a compelling way. Anna blames Lloyd like she didn't have an equal opportunity to talk to him at any point. Just wasn't for me.

Thank you to NetGalley and Random House for the arc!

I was really excited for this based on the cute cover and premise, and it was what I expected in ease of reading. Unfortunately, I had trouble connecting with Anna and Lloyd, and I couldn't stick with it. I think this would be a great YA read, but it just wasn't for me.

Thank you so much NetGalley & Random House Children’s publishing for this arc of Love & Lattes.

Unfortunately, this was not the book for me and I’m deeply sad about it. It started out really cute with a lot of banter and quite cheeky, but then turned out to just kind of frustrate me. The main characters were just a bit irritating and I felt like if I continued on, I just wouldn’t have a great reading experience.

That being said, the author has a great writing style, way of telling a story and providing detail. It just wasn’t the right setting/theme for me.

Rating : 3/5

Beth Reekles' Love & Lattes delivers a charming blend of romance and workplace drama. Following Annalise Sherwood, a driven intern who kisses a mystery guy the night before starting her prestigious summer internship, the story quickly unfolds with a delightful twist. The kiss turns out to be with Lloyd, the CEO’s son, adding an unexpected layer of tension to Anna's professional and personal life.

Reekles' writing shines in its portrayal of Anna’s ambition and her initial friction with Lloyd. The narrative explores their dynamic with a mix of humor and tension, as their interactions evolve from antagonistic to unexpectedly intimate. The slow-burning romance and character development are engaging, and the setting of the internship provides a fresh backdrop for the story.

While the premise might feel familiar, Reekles infuses it with enough wit and warmth to keep readers invested. The chemistry between Anna and Lloyd builds gradually, offering a satisfying journey from conflict to connection.

Overall, Love & Lattes is a lighthearted and enjoyable read that combines romance with workplace drama, perfect for fans of contemporary romance.

📖📖 Book Review 📖📖 I am way past my club days (unless it’s a club soda) but I am never too old for accidentally, unknowingly kissing your new boss’s son in a hazy night out before the first night of an internship trope! The real kicker for Anna? She bared all of her secrets to this stranger who turned out to be her boss…whoops! Beth Reekles captures that magical excitement of a new chapter with the rest of your life ahead of you in a really special way that will resonate with young adults and feel nostalgic for the old folks like me. I still have a copy of my first rom com that was my comfort read for years…and you can tell by its worn out pages and Love & Lattes gave me all the same vibes!

Review is on Goodreads and will be on instagram closer to publication date and on Amazon when published!

Fun romance about two kids who have a great enemies-to-lovers vibe going as soon as they discover who they actually are.

I read The Kissing Booth when I was in high school and was so excited to see Beth Reekles come up on NetGalley. Love and Lattes was adorable. Perfect read for YA.

I do enjoy a cute work romance, but this didn't do it for me. I did like Lloyd and Anna's first interaction together, but after that, the book just kind of annoyed me. Anna drove me nuts to be honest. Her constant flip flopping really ruined it for me. I also wish both Anna and Lloyd's background stories with their families was a bit flushed out more. I also didn't think the whole email draft fiasco added anything to the story. Good concept but not the greatest execution in my opinion.

⁀➷ what i enjoyed:
from that first night you could feel chemistry and tension between anna and lloyd. these feelings progressed even more when they met again in the office. i definitely enjoyed watching their interactions and late night conversations; how they subconsciously tried to be in the same place and how hard they both were working.

⁀➷ what i didn’t enjoy:
the book has so many turns to it. i definitely wasn’t expecting to learn so much about both characters. they have difficult pasts and similar challenges which i thought was helpful to them (to understand each other). but… after learning that lloyd was ceo’s son, anna became more careful and weird. why? firstly, i do understand her and her decisions. she mentioned that having relationship with lloyd would make others thing
about her wrongly; that she’s here just because of sleeping with him. secondly, she couldn’t decide what to do with him and her feelings. she would show affection, and then abruptly changing into a different person. it does look very confusing from lloyd’s perspective.

but lloyd also has annoying behavior. he knew!! he knew that anna wasn’t in contact with her mom, so it’s easy to understand that, probably, she has no idea where and who is her mom. but he also made such a scene from that moment.

Love & Lattes is a delightful read that blends romance, rivalry, and unexpected connections. Annalise Sherwood is determined to excel in her prestigious internship, but a chance encounter with a charming stranger leads to an unforgettable kiss—only for her to later discover that the mystery man is Lloyd, the CEO’s son. Their initial clashes are filled with tension and humor, but as they spend more time together, Annalise starts to see a different side of Lloyd. This book skillfully explores how first impressions can be deceiving and how relationships can evolve in the most surprising ways. With engaging characters and witty dialogue, it’s a fun and heartwarming story about discovering love where you least expect it. I can absolutely see my patrons at the library loving this book just as much as I did!

Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin for a digital review copy of this book.

This is the story of an over-achieving girl who freaks out after unknowingly kissing the son of the CEO at her summer internship the night before the prestigious job starts. Anna has always been socially awkward and unsure how to read people and situations. She managed to get an amazing internship, though she lied about her age to get it. The night before she starts, she meets Lloyd, a cute guy who she is actually comfortable with. They part, never expecting to see each other again (yeah, sure). When she sees him the next morning, he pretends he is meeting her for the first time and she takes it the wrong way. Actually, everything about him rubs her the wrong way until they start working together more and realize just how much they have in common.

Some think of this as a work-place romance story. I consider it more of a coming of age story for both characters that happens to take place in an office. Both are not yet adults, both are dealing with how they view themselves as well as how they are viewed by others. Lloyd might appear to be the golden boy, but his own father brushes him off on a regular basis. Anna lives in the shadow of a mother who left her, choosing work over family. There is also the jealous co-worker who doesn't do the work but wants all of the attention. Being the exact opposite of Anna of course means that she figures into Anna's story, forcing her to grow up and own up to her feelings.

This was an enjoyable story that I could see being great for older YA readers and adults alike.

‘Love & Lattes’ by Beth Reekles was a quick simple office romance read. I would categorize this story as a young adult read. The story follows Anna who is a 19 year old who just finished her first year of collage and earned herself a spot in an internship program. Lloyd is also a young college student working at his father’s company, Arrowmile. These two meet one night at a bar and then realize they will be working together for the summer. Can they navigate through this tension that keeps pulling them together?

I think Beth did a wonderful job describing the setting and character traits. I could really visualize being there.

For being a YA read, I gave it a 5 star as it was an easy and fun storyline to follow. If I compared Love & Lattes with other adult romance books… well I can’t because it wouldn’t be fair as they are not in the same category. Reading the other reviews, if you are looking for an adult romance, look elsewhere. If you don’t mind reading young characters and being a YA romance please proceed forward and enjoy.

Thank you NetGalley, Random House Children’s, and Beth Reekles for an eARC copy of Love & Lattes.

Cute “I accidentally fell for the boss’ son before my summer internship” story from author of Netflix book to screen “The Kissing Booth” #bethreekles.

Sweet and relatively wholesome college kids trying to live up in their parents’ expectations while finding love at work. Reads almost like a high school summer romance, but college-age protagonists. Supporting cast was actually more entertaining to me and I wanted MORE lattes in my opinion. But, this could lend itself to other stories in the universe and sequels so not too deterred. If you’re looking for something cute and sweet though, this book is worth a go. The book is rated 14 and up so considered a YA, but can read as Adult as well.

Being abroad, MC Anna is struggling with some minor imposter syndrome as she's trying to prove her worth in an internship that she technically shouldn't have even qualified for. It's refreshing to see her struggles to perform, her inability to say no to tasks, the extra hours she has to put in to "keep up" and the sacrifices she makes (socially and personally) to prove herself. That said, I did miss getting to know the supporting cast a bit more. Luckily, being removed from her peers heightened Anna's connection to Lloyd and made her feelings for him/struggle with those feelings more believable.

For the pacing, I felt like the story was too long. It was a lot of trudging through daily updates to get to the inevitable ending. Additionally, I felt like the title wasn't as tied into the plotline as I expected.

Overall: 3 stars (I liked it)
