3.5, rounded down. The relationship between Chan and Andee is a little insta-lovey for my taste, but the chemistry is great. It was also refreshing to read something with a little action and adventure that felt organically incorporated (for how unbelievable the plot was), though I wish Holt had been fleshed out a bit. I also appreciated the author's note at the end and incorporation of a hard-of-hearing character.

What a fun story! It was fast paced and had all the action as top fireworks designer, Andee Paxton discovers that her biological father is an arms dealer named Holt.

Andee and Chan made a great team and I loved pairing the book and audio formats for an immersive read!

*many thanks to Berkley and Netgalley for the gifted copy for review

A romantic suspense and action novel that was fast-paced and twisty. Fun premise and journey that was entertaining to go along on.

This book was so cute and had me hooked from the first page. I loved the romcom feel and the action was done well. The pacing was good..it did slow down in the 2nd act but overall I really liked this book.

It’s truly amazing how the women in this book series can be in a life and death situation and still pause to admire how hot the men are or be jealous when they talk to another woman.

I am forever requesting and reading books that are not book one in a series. But nevertheless here we are. The cover art on this one was different but still cute. Loving that spy romcoms are becoming a thing again. Thanks to Tiktok things are getting trendy once more. These characters were fun and their chemistry was immediate and believable. I am always here for any kind of disability representation but I have a special place for those dealing with hearing loss. I loved that ASL was weaved into the story so organically. I would definitely recommend this book.

Mr. Nice Spy was a quick, easy read. I really liked the hard of hearing/deaf representation, along with the ASL. I was drawn to the idea that Andee Paxton’s father is an arms dealer, which built in easy tension between her and CIA officer Adam Chan, particularly when it was obvious she would be used as bait for her dad. It was predictable, but still entertaining.

I'm a sucker for a good spy novel. Especially one that involves an unlikely spy in the form of Andee Paxton wireworks designer. And for her protection while hunting for her father she's "parntered" with seasoned spy CIA agent Adam Chan so of course chaos is going to happen. I love the mystery and the romance as well as the banter between Andee and Adam.

3/5 Stars

I'll start by saying this book was just fine. There wasn't anything particularly wrong with it. However, I just felt very bored while reading this book. The writing was decent. It was very quick and easy to read and It was fast-paced. The romance was just okay I wasn't the biggest fan of Andee and Chan. They just didn't pull me in. I did like that there was some representation of the hard of hearing/ hearing loss/deaf main character and that ASL was featured in this book. I cannot speak to the actual representation but it's nice to see the representation nonetheless. Overall it was an okay read and I can see others enjoying this book.

I thought this was very good and I will have to add this to the shop shelves. Thank you for the chance for us to review.

I was excited to read this - a spy/romance story with a new to me author. It was fun! Great banter, some rom/com moments, It's single pov which worked though I prefer a dual pov in a straight romance. Also, this is the second book in the series, which I didn't know at the time. That was fine since the characters in the first book and this book are completely different. A fun read.

This was a cute spy rom com. I liked both the characters, but the relationship was lacking on page development for me.

I am a sucker for a great spy/ romance book that is fun, and this book checks all the boxes.

First off to truly sell it, the banter and chemistry between Andee and Chan is off the charts in my opinion. I enjoyed what a strong and yet understanding character Andee is, along with the coolest job ever as a pyrotechnic engineer. Honestly, I like reading books with STEM in it, but they normally fall within the same couple categories of jobs, so this was a great idea. I also felt that Adam's (Chan) disability rep was done really well, and added important parts to the story which again made this read different from the few other books that fall into this genre.

The hero is deaf / hard of hearing! If that’s not enough to convince you to read, the obvious chemistry between the FMC and MMC should. A must read for anyone who loves spy stories.

This is another exciting escapade involving the CIA and the bad guys. I really enjoyed the connection and the banter between Chan and Andee. There were interesting spy tidbits and character cameos from the first book. This is becoming a favorite romcom/suspense series and I'm already looking forward to the next book. I listened to the audiobook and the narration by Alex Finke made it a great way to read this fantastic caper.

This was just pure fun, picture Knight and Day with Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz, or Killers with Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl. We have Andee, a pyrotech (coolest job ever) who has spent her entire life thinking her dad is a famous dude her mom had a one night stand with, and then, fed up with coworkers not believing her and belittling her, she runs a DNA test to see if he is her father. Only to find out that her dad is actually the most wanted terrorist in the world and he's been looking for her for a long time! Enter CIA Officer Adam Chan, a hottie with a body! They end up kidnapped together and have to work together to take down her father, it was awesome! I loved their relationship and the fact that he was hard of hearing so they used ASL to their advantage and the diversity rep was great! I did not read the first book in the series but it did not hinder my reading experience at all, but I will for sure. be going back to read Mendez's story cause I need more!!

3.5 Star A fun little romantic suspense novel. I would almost call this cozy suspense.

Andee is a firework designer whose mother always told her she was the love child of a celebrity (with tons of stories but no proof) but when she finally does a DNA test she learns that celebrity daddy is not daddy at all, instead, her real father is a big time criminal. Which leads us to one of our only two connections to the previous book in this series, Crime-Dad.

Honestly, I went into this book thinking it would feature the same couple as The Spy and I, which is book 1 in this series, but honestly, you don't need to read that one to get this one. It doesn't have any moments that I was like "hey, I missed something in a previous book here, right?" and while I enjoyed the rare appearances of Mendez, I missed Dove, and I am kind of sad that this book was not more closely connected to the first book.

My second issue is that the majority of this book takes place in captivity. Almost immediately after the news is broken to Andee that she's the kid a recently escaped criminal on the run, she and the CIA 'officer' who rescued her at a bar and she thinks is hubba-hubba hot, Adam Chan, are kidnapped by Crime-Dad. They spend a good 60% of this book in Crime-Dad's secret underground bunker, learning about his dastardly plans and pretending to be dating. And kissing, a lot of kissing. It really dragged down the pacing for me, and I wish that that time was halved. I don't even really feel like we got a lot of character development in this time either, because they were trying really hard to not give away anything. What I'm trying to say is that I think that this relationship was definitely built on physical attraction and danger... and basically nothing else.

Because we spent so much time in the bunker, the fact that they went back to the bunker, after escaping, for the climax didn't only feel contrived, but was kind of upsetting. It was a pretty good climax and ending, but I needed it to be away from the bunker.

Now that we've talked about my issues, let me talk about the thing that blew me away.
Our male hero, Adam Chan, is written as hard-of-hearing. He wears hearing aids and they are a major aspect of his character, with mentions to the CIA having him carry around a back-up pair, the batteries dying after use, and him no longer being allowed to be in the field because he is partially disabled.

Also, a quirky fun fact from the first chapter of Andee learning sign language to have something in common with celebrity daddy, turns into a major plot point as Andee and Chan use sign language to communicate for the rest of the book when speaking might be an issue.

One of the cutest moments was between Chan and Andee when Chan told her that her voice was the exact right pitch for him to hear it, and her laugh is his favorite sound. It was so cute and heartwarming. I absolutely loved the representation here, it was the best part of the book for me!

I cannot stand the FMC. I had hoped maybe it was just the time I was reading it, but I am not a fan. Which, is a bummer because I enjoyed the first book by the author.

How fun was this one?!Andee is a pyrotechnic engineer. Ok, I’m always fascinated with firework shows and how they are created so I thought this was so cool! Anyway, she also is the daughter of an escaped from prison arms dealer who’s searching for her, his long lost daughter! Mix in a sexy CIA agent and you get this blast of a book!

“If I’d wanted a man to buy me a drink, I’d have worn cute clothes and shoes that hurt my feet. What I really wanted was to go home, forget today had ever happened, and hit the restart button like I was in the movie Groundhog Day.”

I enjoyed this contemporary-romance-meets-romantic-suspense novel with a very high-stakes version of fake dating. Andee was a little arrogant in the beginning but did eventually come around. Chan was basically perfection. Perhaps a little too perfect to be believable, but I’ll allow it. I loved the hard-of-hearing representation and the ways that may actually come in handy for a spy. I thought the spy stuff in general was well done and also corrected a few misconceptions.

The book is told entirely through Andee’s perspective. I typically prefer romance novels to be told with dual POV narration so I can see both sides. However, the single POV seemed to work here. I think it’s because Chan was smitten pretty much immediately. Most of the personal growth and self-realization is undertaken by Andee.

This is the second book in the My Spy series. I read this as a standalone and was able to follow the plot without any difficulty since it has completely different main characters. However, I think I’ll go back and read the first book anyone because I’m interested to learn more about Officer Mendez and his love story.
