I have been looking for something that was as good as the book In A Dark Dark Wood and in the same subgenre. This scratched that itch so well. Hen party horror stories are so good. I loved this.

Alex is a true-crime devotee and her friends Lainey and Melody have planned the surprise bachelorette party of her dreams, taking her to the Catskills, specifically to an alleged haunted hunting lodge where ten years ago Eric Myers, the 666 serial killer stabbed a victim and wrote on the walls in her blood. Alex recently had a chance to interview this killer in prison as part of her internship with an investigative news show (because, you know, that’s what interns do. They don’t file and do grunt work. They interview high profile killers.)
The women are hanging out, then go to bed. Then Alex wakes up to find her friends are missing and her hands are covered in blood, and so are their sleeping bags. Did the police get the right person or is the 666 killer still at large? Could Alex be responsible? Can she find her friends?
Let me tell you, this group is about the dumbest collection of people in the world. I won’t spoil anything by listing the many, many ways in which this is true, but suffice it to say that by the end you kind of hope a serial killer comes along and puts them all out of your misery. Read at your own risk.

This is the story of Alex, a crime journalist, who’s on her surprise bachelorette trip with her two friends. They are taking her to a lodge where serial killer, Eric Myers, committed his crimes and is in jail. Alex goes to sleep and wakes up with her friends missing and blood on her hands. She starts to question everything!! 🫣
I enjoyed the book but, it did take me a bit to get into it. Thank you NetGalley and Sandra Block for the opportunity to read your work before it comes out ❤️

Alex friends take her to a haunted cabin for her bachelorette party. keeps you guessing, quick read.

I must admit that I really enjoyed this, though the plot is just absurdly implausible—I mean could-never-ever-happen implausible—and the prose is workmanlike at best. Block knows how to, as the blurb cliché has it, ratchet up the tension. One quibble: it’s the Book of Revelation, not “Revelations.” And speaking of revelations, the one involving the slip of paper with the name on it doesn't make any sense, as a matter of spelling. No explanation for the discrepancy between how the name is spelled and the order in which the letters of the name appear in the word is forthcoming.

Omg this was amazing. I love the fever dream aspect. You’ll definitely have to suspend disbelief and just enjoy the ride. This is not a critical mystery thriller but it is thoroughly enjoyable.

Brilliant. Spellbinding. Terrorizing. This book should be locked away in your fridge while you sleep because you can't trust any of the characters.
Three good friends drive to a surprise destination for the bride-to-be's bachelorette party. The other two gals take Alex to a VRBO where a serial killer murdered a girl. Alex has researched this story and even interviewed the suspect who is in prison because she wants to write about the case for her internship.
Block is careful about using the correct pronouns, which must be difficult because it sounds grammatically incorrect.
During the first night in the haunted house, Alex wakes up in the shower, finds her friends have disappeared, but left some of their blood behind. The vicious snowstorm outside doesn't help matters, but Alex still forges her way through the deep snow to try and get help.
I loved this book even though it was quite terrifying. Block keeps the tension rampant. A real page turner.

"A true crime devotee gets more than she bargained for at her killer bachelorette party."
Thank you to Netgalley, Scarlet publishing, and the author Sandra Block for letting read & review this advanced copy. Alex is a new intern at her dream job that is a news program called crimelite that deals with different investigations. She goes away on her bachelorette party with her two best friends at a mysterious lodge her work set up for her. The lodge is known for being a crime scene at one point from the serial killer Eric Myers who currently resides in prison. Alex suddenly wakes up to blood all over the place and her friends are no where to be found. This sends her on a thrilling adventure to find out the truth. This is a three star read that releases September 3rd 2024.

This was a wild ride. Fast paced & thrilling! I didn’t love the characters incompetence though… but that seems to track with how dumb they are in horror movies! Overall the book was good! I will recommend to all my thriller junkies!

I DNF this book about 100 pages in. I could not connect with the characters and was annoyed and aggravated. This just wasn’t it for me.

i enjoyed it but i felt like it dragged on. although the idea/plot was really good. i definitely wasn’t a fan on alex’s friends unfortunately.
also the format on my kindle was brutal so that made it a bit hard to read and follow along.

This was fantastic. I really enjoyed reading it. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this ARC!

I devoured The Bachelorette Party. There are so many twists and turns in this book that make it's claws sink deep. I really enjoyed how it kept me guessing. I also liked the protagonist Alex and how quick witted she was. Thank you to Netgalley, Sandra Block, and Scarlet Publishing for allowing me to read this ARC.

Alex has a career she loves working in true crime stories, she is getting married and she has the opportunity to interview the famous 666 Serial Killer. What could be better? Her friends decide to give her a bachelorette party with a theme to match her obsession with the famous case. Of course, the perfect location for said party is none other than a hunting lodge where he once stabbed one of his victims and wrote 666 on the walls in blood. Unfortunately, Alex wakes up covered in blood and her friends are nowhere to be found. The cabin is snowed in, she is unable to find her phone, the car won't start and she needs to figure out a way to find and save her friends as soon as possible.
First things first, let me just get this out there. I was given a free advanced copy of the book before publication. Based on that fact, I'm hoping the book still has some proofing and editing that will be done before publication. Otherwise, there are a lot of areas where the formatting is wonky. As in new chapters starting in the middle of pages, words strung together with spacing missing, and several times when the title of the book is just randomly in the middle of a paragraph. So as long as that is fixed, it should be fine.
Now as for the book itself, the premise is really good, although I would not really say it was a thriller at any point. Or maybe I just read too many thrillers and need more to get my heart racing. For me, I figured out the first twist pretty early on. (Although the person sending notes/calls/flowers was a surprise) The final twist was more of a surprise based on where the story had been going. The story does go back and forth between the party weekend and her investigation into the serial killer in prior weeks. Some parts of the story do seem to drag, but it is a fast read that can be finished in a day if you are so inclined.

I really enjoyed this author’s writing style… it was easy to read and rich with details. The beginning was a bit hard to get into— the first few pages felt like a giant info dump, and some of it just felt weird and implausible right off the bat (a 26 year old intern? An intern who is approved to interview a serial killer for an assignment? A 26 year old who’s marrying someone with a 12 year old son after a whirlwind romance?)— but it’s worth pushing through. Once you get past that, the book is suspenseful and intriguing. I definitely did not expect either of the main twists!

The premise of this one really intrigued me but unfortunately I could not get into it at all. I had to DNF.,

Alex is a journalist, and she can’t seem to
let go of the famous 666 serial killings,
especially because she doesn’t believe that
Eric Myers is truly the man who committed
the crimes.
The story takes place over two timelines,
the present, where Alex is celebrating
her bachelorette party, and six months
ago, when she really started to dig into
the 666 serial killings.
Overall, this was an easy read. However,
parts of the ending were poorly laid out.
Additionally, I was able to predict a big part
of the story within the first few chapters.
There was the final twist, which turned it
around for me, and redeemed the small part
I didn’t enjoy.
I rate it 3.5

True crime aficionado Alex is headed out of town with two friends for her bachelorette party. Unbeknownst to her, the friends have booked the lodge where her current crime obsession/assignment took place. One cannabis induced nap later and Alex is running for her life away from the scene of a brutal crime that she may or may not have committed:
Readers can expect a number of twists and some unfinished plot points in this thriller. Thanks to NetGalley for the digital advanced copy.

This was an excellent, enjoyable read. The plot kept me on my toes the entire time and I found myself desperate to know what happened next. I enjoyed the alternating timelines and thought they added to the story. I also liked the characters and thought the author did a great job of making you suspicious of literally everyone. The twists were excellent and while I tend to be pretty perceptive, I saw none of this coming. Overall, a great thriller and definitely one I will be recommending!

A crime junkie and aspiring investigative journalist finds out her bachelorette is at a cabin that is the very site of the murder she’s investigating. Because of course great bride tribe would give the bride a bachelorette based on everything she loves, right? Even though, it’s on my own personal bucket list to stay at a haunted or creepy place, I’ll admit I was hesitant at first about the premise of this story. But eventually I actually ended up getting pretty caught up in the story. The sequence is a bit jarring going back and forth between past and present but it sort of adds to the chaos of it all. A terrible idea that just keeps getting worse, it definitely kept me on my toes. I won’t spoil the ending but it was a bit abrupt, though I appreciated it not getting dragged out too much. There were definitely a lot of “wait what?” moments in the book, but overall still entertaining.
