Long Time Gone is the second book in the Hell or High Water series by author SE Jakes. I have not read the first and wished I did. This is very much the second book. You can get the idea of the story and the storyline with this one, but you would get more out of it if you read the first book first.
Prophet has always worked alone. He is an ex-mercenary and he is not used to letting people in. That why he is taking Tom’s departure so hard. Tom was the one person he did let in.
Tom walked away not because he didn’t love Prophet but to protect him. But now Prophet is back, and Tom is not strong enough to walk away twice.
These two are singe worthy. Both in and out of bed wow. But I loved the mystery in this story too. This is a great love story with a twist. I would love to read more from this series and go back and see what I missed too. Well worth reading this one is.

Lawwwwwwd almighty, where do I start?!!!? I think I could be happy just reading Prophet and Tommy until the end of time. Is there any way we can get SE Jakes to do nothing but write the Hell or High Water series??? Probably not. LOL

Long Time Gone is the second installment in the series – following the also fabulous Catch A Ghost – and I may have liked it even more than the first one. It has everything: Action; great plot and dialogue; insanely hot sex; fantastic characters; and another leave-you-wanting-more ending!

When we last saw Prophet and Tommy, they were heading in separate directions…neither one able to come to terms with how to make their relationship work. And…well…it takes a hurricane to bring them back together.

Tommy defies Phil, his boss at EE, to go to his aunt’s house in New Orleans, of course in the hopes that Prophet will have also gone there to help her during the hurricane. The reunion scene that SE Jakes treats us to may well be worth reading the book for all on its own. There should possibly be a warning of some kind accompanying these pages. ;) These two are as drawn to each other as ever, and both their chemistry and banter are beyond fabulous.

The story takes us on a journey into Tommy’s past that is action-packed, full of drama and colorful characters, and is just all around riveting. I honestly could not put this book down! Somehow, in between trying to find a murderer, looking for Tommy’s childhood best friend and sometime lover, Etienne, and dodging gators, Prophet and Tommy manage to have a few much-needed, serious discussions about where they’ve been the past four months, and where they want to be in the future. Though there are lots of confessions and honest insights in these heart-to-hearts, we are still left with PLENTY to wonder about for the next book. Prophet certainly still has a few huge secrets…

I can’t say enough how much I love these characters, and how this part of their story played out. We learned so much about them this go around. They shared more with each other than they ever thought they would, and it was great to see a bit of the vulnerable and softer sides, along with the tough, kick-ass sides that we know and love. Also, I was so happy to get a little bit of Mick and Blue! Thank you for that, SE!
Can’t wait for all the great things to come from this fantastic author!
